  1. Yes because, fourth place is alot better then 5th place. Soriano WOULD NOT have made a difference. This ORGANIZATION needs to get into the 21st century, and developed PLAYERS who can play the game, instead of signing mediocre smashers.
  2. Methinks...the Cubs have been Stephen Hyde's "stash" a little too hawd....
  3. And losing The difference is...the Royals made no secret of their desire to be crappy. The Cubs gave their fans "fool's hope" on the season.
  4. Are you CRAZY? None of those players were used as rarely as Dempster has been used in the last 25+ games. No closer would be consistant with inconsistant playing time.
  5. Fair!!?? It's bull. Rodgers got 20 for attacking 2 cameramen and it was reduced to 13 on appeal. 13 for a SP is like 2-3 starts. 10 for a catcher is like 7-8-9 games!!! Yeah, fair. He got 10, he can probably get it reduced to about 8. MB was completely in the wrong here. It was fun to watch, but he was dead wrong. No other Cubs got suspended or fined (although Hendry and Baker should have both been fined for their negligent treatment of one of their own players who actually stuck up for his teammate), Anderson got a nice chunk of time, and Cora got hit as well. The ONLY reason why MB was wrong, was because there were children in the stadium. Otherwise...you are NEVER wrong when you slug a thug like AJP.
  6. On people badmouthing Dempster: Stop. You realize that Demspter has only pitched in 2.2 innings in the past 7 days? I don't care what closer you have...nobody could be effective being used so lightly. NOBODY. And in the last 26 games, I seriously doubt he got consistant time on the mound. So, I would stop the comparasion with ALF/Hawks etc, because they SUCKED everyday...Dempster has sucked every 4 or 5 days. But Dempster is still bettre if he gets consistant work, and everybody here KNOWS THAT. On the 2 run sac fly: :|
  7. Why? Because you still have hope the Cubs could still turn things around and make a run this yr? Trading Williamson to the Reds---especially if the get that Denorfia---would be a solid move for the Cubs. But knowing the Cubs they'd end up with Quinton McCracken for Williamson.
  8. Good to see Jim was garbage picking again, he will go well with the bookends known as Neifi and Rusch. Well at least we can give him a 2 year extension after he has a decent season, and saves us from last place! BCB Jim buys into the "One man's garbage, is another man's treasure" theory.
  9. And while we are at it, maybe the Cubs should talk to Albert Belle, or heck even Jesse Barfield, seeing either of those players would STILL be better then Canseco.
  10. Gonna? That implies there is SOME hope that the Cubs will beat the Braves. The Cubs WILL lose, prolly before the 1st inning is through.
  11. I think Giambi makes it before Sheffield. And yet...neither SHOULD make it. People may JUMPED on Bonds for his "alledge steroids use", but before 1998, Bonds was the prototype of the 5 tool player, he could do it all. Bonds makes it, even tho the steroids clouds hangs over him because of what he did BEFORE steroids, Giambi/Sheffield will only go as far as the Pete Rose "show" outside of Cooperstown.
  12. Don't forget Fast Freddie Bynum. Might as well keep Theriot and call up Fontenot too. Bring up Eric Patterson and there you have it. I was going to mention that the Cubs bring up any medicore 2b, yet the SECOND best 2B in the organization (Walker then Patterson) stays in the minors? You know your season is lost, when you are competing with the ROYALS for the most mediocrely filled, veteran laden team in baseball.
  13. Greenberg and Theriot would not make us "a lot" better off, if any at all. They're marginal utility/backup prospects at best, and as bad as the list of clowns you mentioned have been, they're still probably a bit better overall. The fish will be better in 2 years because they're putting a lot of young talent on the field. Key word being talent. Murton and Cedeno are not quite the caliber of Hermida and Ramirez. We need to face the facts that we have seen the last of the "great" Cubs prospects for a while, except for Pie and possibly Guzman (the one who doesn't walk everyone). AAA is pretty desolate, and AA isn't looking a whole lot brighter. Greenberg/Theriot WOULDN'T make the Cubs any worse then they are now. The Marlins would be better, simply because they have people who knows baseball (not the owner, of course, but still) and does know the value of "The OBP." You're right Murton/Cedeno isn't i the class of Ramirez/Hermida, but Murton/Cedeno has a better chance of fulfilling their promise, whereas Hermida/Ramirez are a boom or bust type players. Considering where the Marlins play...I don't see Hermida or Ramirez showing their "full capaibilities" until they got to a pack that doesn't require a "rocket pack" just to get the ball to the OF. With that said....I'd still take Hermida/Ramirez over Murton/Cedeno anyday, but I do think Murton/Cedeno will be 2 very nice complementary players in the not-so-distant future.
  14. In other words, a raw college player! ...as opposed to a raw high schooler. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Yeah, because RAW high schools players the Cubs have taken recently, have definately been productivet..... Have about the Cubs try a different apprach. What O_O and I are implying is that it doesn't matter if it is a raw HS or a raw college player. We'd prefer to take a polished hitter however old he is. Then seeing as there MIGHT not be an IMPACT college/polish hitter available...then the Cubs are.....(fill in your adjective)
  15. And this isn't tooting my own horn---- ----but I always LIKED Cabrera better then Pujols, anyways. If the Cubs could get Cabrera, oh man.....
  16. I want DON ZIMMER. [-(
  17. I vote LH batting practice pitcher. No....I vote for him to be a 2B for the Cubs....
  18. The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. The Patterson trade was simply the best option at the time, and it will prove to be the BEST the Cubs could have done. And on Prior, I don't want just "getting something" for Prior. Everybody knows what Prior can do when he is healthy (SHOULD have won the Cy Young in 03, but oh well) thus the Cubs---if they decide to trade---should demand...a very good package for Prior. The Cubs DON'T have to trade Prior, and ONCE Prior gets healthy (it's a matter of time) he WILL be in the same class as Z.
  19. There's another "Chicago team"? Well I'll be.....a monkey's uncle.
  20. Nicely played. I'm hoping I'm not the only one who got the reference. :-k  I don't get it. There's no shame in that, but you should still either read or see a good production of the play: Waiting for Godot. Where? Waiting for Gidot is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett. It's called the play where nothing happens twice (those familiar with it will get that comment). Sorry. I'm a theatre and English double major and my college is going to perform that show next semester. Thanx. And the last play I've seen was "Rent" back in the late 90s. The version with Jesse Martin/Taye Diggs/Anthony. So I may just go and see this play.
  21. Nicely played. I'm hoping I'm not the only one who got the reference. :-k  I don't get it. There's no shame in that, but you should still either read or see a good production of the play: Waiting for Godot. Where?
  22. Nicely played. I'm hoping I'm not the only one who got the reference. :-k  I don't get it.
  23. That would have been a good trade for the Mets. Hernandez is clutch in the postseason. What has Kris Benson ever won? Perhaps.....ANNA?
