  1. First: The play" was "pathetic, and AJ is "gutless." Rich Hill is correct in his comments. Second: Is it me, or is Ozzie profanity just about the only words, that can made out when he talks? Listening to Ozzie speak is prolly the most challenging thing these reporters have to cover. I swear, after every few minutes, you have to ask Ozzie, "Dude, say what? "
  2. Well, basically... The bases were loaded, AJP at third, Barrett catching. Sac fly to left, murton throws home. The ball was still bouncing down the third base line and AJP absouloutley PLOWED into barrett, elbows up. Uncalled for. Then after that he turned arouned and SLAPPED the plate real hard, just being an ass. So as he walks away barrett stood up and grabbed him, and said something ot him, then JACKED him square in the jaw. Then turned and did the same to whoever was on deck, who of course came running to the plate. THen the ump pulled barrett back onto his back and a huge brawl erupted Mabry and Anderson got into a little cat fight and they got ejected as well. Hil was terrible. First:   on Barrett beating the crap out of AJP. I don't have a personal problems with any White Sox players, outside of AJP and Jenks. And to hear Barrett beat the crap out of him....BEAUTIFUL. Second: Why is Barrett the only player to show some "fire" in the last couple of weeks? Third: Why is Hill still in Chicago, and Ryu in AAA?
  3. Sometimes, a move is just a move. Why waste the time and effort on a talented, but YET very raw kid like Negron. Couldn't hurt by taking this gamble. And no, picking up Negron, does not automatically mean Pierre is going anywhere.....at least not till the deadline.
  4. Nah.....Hendry doesn't have to be defensive about this team.
  5. Why is anybody surprise that the Cubs have performed this badly against the White Sox? In the last 2 to 3 weeks, the ONLY team the Cubs could "beat up on" was the Washington Nationals, the only team that would be WORSE then the Cubs offensively. The lack of baseball IQ is astounding, (I guess IQ to the Cubs means, "I quit.")
  6. I hope these "tongue lashings" continue to light a fire under McGrath and Sullivan. I hope they KEEP POUNDING Hendry/MacPhail and the Cubs organization for their lack of integrity, their lack of baseball plan, and flat out their lack of common sense. Keep these guys FEELING THE HEAT. They have been too comfortable with there roles for too long. Enough is enough. If you read this, Bruce Miles, same applies to you. Keep th heat on.
  7. Ozzie may be right, but Ozzie has his OWN club to contend with. Ozzie isn't on the Cubs payroll, thus he needs to keep his nose out of the Cubs business. Maybe Ozzie consistancy ripping the Cubs is his way of trying to get the White Sox more press, but...it goes back to the old "you worry about your own team, before you worry about mine team" theory. Ozzie needs to just "shut the heck up."
  8. Why would Tony Womack sign with the Cubs, who have like  30 people on the 40 man roster who can play 2b, when there are other teams who have ho----wait a minute... Why do I get the sickly feeling that the Cubs were the only team to EVEN have interests in Womack? Apparently the career yr that Womack had in 2004, means he is getting better with age, according to Baker's logic.... It will be less then two weeks before Womack will be up with the Cubs. :(
  9. From this mornings SunTimes. LOL
  10. Pre-trades, we could get Mark Bellhorn, Lenny Harris and Jose Hernandez back too. Yeah, and Antonio Alfonseca, Matt Clement, Alex Gonzalez, and Randall Simon might be convince to come back to Chicago, esp Alfonseca  .
  11. Yep -- he issued warnings to both teams after the first pitch -- which as you noted was thrown behind Barry. Nothing wrong with how Joe West handled that situation IMO.... Springer threw a SLIDER on said pitch, Wind City. Take it from a former pitcher, if you are TRYING to hit a batter, you don't try to hit the batter with an "offspeed pitch", you use the "Good ol'e #1", the fastball. The warning on the first pitch was BOGUS. Now, any pitch leading up to the HBP---exlcuding the first pitch---I would agree on the warning. But to instantly issue a warning on a SLIDER, is plain stupid.
  12. That's the risk of keeping young guys like Cedeno and Marshall, etc, etc. Yeah it would get laugh off the table if the kids struggle, but whose to say the Cubs offer those young kids, RIGHT NOW, and the Orioles would still laugh at the offer? Do I think the Orioles could/should trade Tejada? Yes. Only because the O's are clearly the fourth best team in the AL East, ad have absolutely NO SHOT at the playoffs before Tejada's contract is up in 2009. Alot of people are banking on Tejada being this yr's version of Carlos Beltran, and while I could see it....I don't necessarily agree with it. I didn't say the Cubs shouldn't try to acquire Tejada, but unless they get Miggy for a darn good deal, I would just---pull a small market team for the yr---hold onto the kids, and see if they are worth keeping. If not...the Cubs can still revisit talks in the offseason for Tejada. I'm not ready to write off 2006, either, but I also believe the Cubs should NOT try and get a "quick fix" in Tejada. There is too many holds in Cubs lineup, and not even Tejada can fixed them all. The ONLY way I would look into acquiring Tejada---remember he's still is not available--officially-- I remind you, so all of this is still a moot point---is if the Cubs go on a RIDICULUS hot streak within the next month. Otherwise...bite the bullet, and wait for 2007.
  13. First: Does anybody actually care about Springer getting suspended or not? Second: As much as I don't personally like with Bonds as a person, cause he is surly, and he is the textbook definition of both superego driven, and anxiety fill, but I was a little pissed about what Springer did. I don't understand why Springer would throw at Bonds (outside of maybe the Giants keeping him in....too long during a blowout, in which case...that's on Alou and not Bonds). Bonds has one homerun lifetime in 3 at bats lifetime against Springer, and BBTN is trying to sell me that Springer has a "long memory" about the homerun Bonds hit off him a few yrs ago? Not going to buy that theory. Bonds has hit homeruns off hundreds of different pitchers, so what is Springer's deal?
  14. Elrhino, and TheMojoPin; It would be a waste to acquire Tejada just to appease the media/fans. To Cubs right now....shouldn't be adding expensive players to a team that as of right now, has a little shot of making the playoffs. And it would be a WASTE to trade young, cheap talents to acquire a player would have NO impact to this yr's team. Why not hold the young players for the rest of the yr, see how they did, and go from there. Acquiring the big name is not also the right thing to do. Besides the EARLIEST Tejada would be available would be the offseason, so why are we talking about an possible offseason acquistion during the season?
  15. Let's not say something you going to regret later on.
  16. You can see a "win tonight" but you didn't say you see a Cubs win tonight. Besides....in order for the Cubs to "win" don't they have to score and have a lead after 9 innings.
  17. I never said he was a "AAAA" player, I just question why...as he is about to turn 27, he's never had an opportunity to play everyday. Simple: Todd Helton He failed to impress in the outfield and Helton was blocking him at 1b. Colorado can't afford a poor fielding outfielder. Thome was blocking Ryan Howard during his entire stay in Phily. He didn't have to "impress" in the OF. If he could PROVE to catch the ball he can get to, then his bat--in theory---could make up for any of his liabilities on defense.
  18. Now, if the Cubs believe they can make a playoff run THIS yr, then sure go after Tejada. But what in the last 2 weeks have given you---ANY CUBS FAN---that the Cubs are prime for a playoff run? As appealing Tejada is.....I wouldn't waste the talent require to acquire him. Or at least not before the offseason.
  19. I never said he was a "AAAA" player, I just question why...as he is about to turn 27, he's never had an opportunity to play everyday.
  20. I'd like Maddux to become the Cubs pitching coach whenever he retires. I'd even sign him next year as a player/coach (if that's allowed) I don't. Maddux is in his career, has had the opportunity to help other "young pitchers" to develop thier talents, but he has refused (or the other pitchers refused to go to him, due to ego) to act the mentor. In other words...Maddux will suck as a pitching coach, not because he doesn't know how to pitch, but moreso his ego would be hurt. You can teach other guys to throw certain pitches, but you can't teach them the "feel of the game." Some of the games best PC have been solid to downright journeymen type pitchers. Bud Black, Larry Dierker (if he was still coaching), Mike Maddux...etc...etc. The best pitcher that had a decent career as a PC was Dave Stewart, and that wasn't a long tenure for Stew. When Greg's career is over as a player, I doubt he becomes a coach.
  21. If this kid is truly an "Amazing hitter", then why is he 27 yrs old, and still can't get an everyday job? This kid would be perfect as 1B/DH for clubs like Detroit, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, etc...yet..no team has seem to be iterested in acquiring him. And save me from the rhertoric of "The Rockies are asking to much for him", or "Clubs don't know who Shealy is." All that is...is rhetoric speak. Scouts know who this kid is...and yet there is few nibbles for Shealy....why? Maybe because his is a AAAA guy....or his swing isn't nearly as good at the ML level as it has been in AAA. I would take Shealy, but I don't think he is a better "prospect" then Dopirak.
  22. IMO, you don't trade pitching for hitting, period. ONCE Prior proves tobe healthy, everybody is going to be happy the Cubs kept him.
  23. Not concentrating is losing a few games in a row. But to lose 13 of 15, and is wildly considered playing worse baseball then KC/Pitt/Florida, your beyond lack of concentrating, this team don't give a darn thing.
  24. was thinkin that also, we really dont need him if he continues playing like corey patterson did when he was here Man, about to be swept iin a season series against the Padres? I wonder when the last time the Cubs was swept in a season series?
