Reds trade again

Who will play RF for Cincy? Who will play SS for Cincy? Wagner for Bray (both were former 1st rders) is a wash. So the Reds traded two nice and young contributors for a solid MR, a crappy SS, a unknown backup, and Darryl Thompson. Man, how did Bowden pull this trade out of his butt? And Kravisky looks very dumb. After this trade, can you NOW imagine what Bowden will asked for, when teams will be calling for Vidro, Soriano, Guillen, and Hernandez? If they can get similar type deals like this one, the Nats will be contenders in 07. Man, this trade looks like CIncy is giving up on the season. This was a STUPID trade. -

:pats self on back: The relievers, ok. The hitters weren't that fun to look at. :( Hill is the clear cut winner here. I think the battle for second is more interesting. I think Veal has had the second best season and Wells the third. I like Hill, and I still think he will be dealt, but IMO, considering the lack of hype, and "prototype" stuff, I actually like Gallagher's season better then Wells and Veal. Veal and Wells has the stuff, so there numbers are not really all that surprising. Now in comparasion that his stuff, Gallagher simply gets it done, he keeps pitching and pitching, and defying the logics. I would give Gallagher my first half award....with Veal, Wells, and Hill in that order. -

Lou Piniella update: http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-2starsep12.html THere's no much, but De Luca did make it sound that is Baker is indeed fired, that Piniella would get "The Baker treatment" from Hendry, ie full court press. And the only reason why Hendry would EVEN be interested in Piniella (I would feel bad for Cedeno/Murton and every YOUNG talent the Cubs, cause they wouldn't have a chance) is that Hendry would still believe in his delusion that while not offically elimanted, his team could still make a run. Or why else bring in a "full time manager" at this point in the season? Hendry is maybe looking at Piniella as the Cubs version of Phil Garner? Hiring Piniella, would be like putting a bandage over a broken bone. If it's between Baker and Piniella for the rest of 06, just stick with Baker, and let him have the first plane out of Chicago. -
Loretta a FA? I'm on board there. Not really a fan of Loretta, and I hope the Cubs stay away from adding any big name 2nd basemens, like Giles/Loretta. I want 2nd base open for Eric Patterson.

'm not going to lie, I absolutely LOVED what Barrett did to AJP. AJP deserved what he got. Now don't get me wrong, I don't condone violence against other human beings, but seeing as AJP is not a human being, I say...an eye for an eye. With that said....at the time of "the punch" the Cubs were already out of it, and on crappy teams, such as our :roll: beloved Cubs :roll: , players will often look after himself over the team, seeing individual stats are the only thing they are playing for. Now we all kow Baker wasn't going to defend Barrett, and chances his teammates weren't either, simply because they were prolly to busy playing the PS3/XBox 360 or something like that. So, I don't mind Barrett looking after himself. I know, I know, I sound like a raving lunatic, I blame on the 2006 Cubs syndrome.

I was going to rip your idea up to shreads, but I went and look at his numbers this yrs and wowsa :shock: ,he would be the Cubs top hitter, if you can believe that. With that said, I still wouldn't offer up ALL THREE of Marshall/Guzman/Pie. I would offer up two of the three, and maybe a lower tier prospect like a Montanez or a Wells, in exchange for DeJesus and a A ball prospect.

I hate to say this, but I see Jason Schmidt going to the Mets. Sabean has a recent history of STUPID trades (AJP for Nathan/Bonser/Liriano, Williams/Aardsma for Hawkins, and Hawkins for Kline), and I could see Sabean trading Schmidt for Bannister (or Heilman) and Fernando Martinez, BASED on his recent history. I am saying based on Sabean's RECENT history, not what the Giants. My guess is...Sabean will NOT get enough for Schmidt, if he trades. -
The Daily is pumping for a LA team to Z! Yellow journalism at its finest. Of course if the Dodgers or Angels want to give the Cubs their top 5 prospects Hendry ought to think about it. If those 5 are overall top 50 guys that is. Agreed. The LA Times is trying to start a rumor, that isn't even out there. They think that because the Cubs are nearing the Pirates/Royals levels that the Cubs would be look to "dump" salary. If it was KC/Pitt that Z was on...he would be the hottest name available for trade, and I could see why the LA Times would jones for the guy. But since Z is on the Cubs, I can't see how they think the Cubs are going to trade him?

Johnson hasn't really had success as a starter since he came into the system and, more importantly, his stuff has apparently been pretty mediocre. If he can get back to the mid-90's as a reliever, he's got a good chance. Along the same lines, does anyone know why Pawalek is relieving in Boise? It seems kind of odd... I think Outshine, inadvertly answer your question, I think Cubs are trying to build up the arm strength of both kids (Pawelek and Johnson) and are trying to stay patient with them. No need to rush them before 2008.

It was Arizona, I think. and if memory serves, he hit is second career GS a day later. As for Cedeno, I think it's funny how often Baker gets blasted for having a quick hook on rookies, but many on this board want to give up on a 23 year old SS after half a season. Bott of you are correct....Sammy's first two grand slams came against the D'Backs on July 27-28 of 1998, and Sammy's grandslam against the Padres was on September 16, 1998. Nonetheless, Sammy became a full fear hitter, when he finally learn how to hit with bases loaded.

I agreed. Cedeno looks lost, and overmatched, not to mention he has lost some confidence. Swinging at a ball over your head in a bases loaded situation, and then swinging at a 45 ft curveball in the 9th. He needs help in the worst way. I know I am going to get booed, but right now, Cedeno needs to go to AAA, Nefti needs to temp start (provided he gives up the switch-hitting, and concentrate on batting RH ONLY), and Theriot to be called up.

Agreed. Zito has a GREAT curveball, but not a curveball that is worth almost $12 mill per. With Mulder doing his best Rusch's impersonatoin, and Hudson not exactly being light's out, and that is switching from the AL to the NL, which is a easier jump then NL to the AL. So, I would no to Zito.

First: I'm not ready to trade Cedeno. Alot of guys complain about trading guys while at their lowest, this would be it. And I know that Tejada was said to be available last offseason, but who is to say, he will be again? Second: At this point, I am still willing to let Cedeno get comfortable playing at the ML level, Let him continue to get to know ML pitchers, and he will turn out to be a decent hitter. Besides, the Cubs have to have a couple of cost-efficent players on this bloated salary cap team. While adding Tejada, would be nice, I highyl doubt he'll be available.

What if the Brewers have the same unwritten rule and the Cubs have to overpay for whoever we get from Milwaukee? Then you trade Maddux to Arizona, LA, or San Diego. Phil Rodgers was on the radio in Milwaukee today and he said he thinks there is a good chance of this going down. He thinks JJ Hardy has lost his SS job to Bill Hall, and the Cubs should target Hardy in a trade with Milwaukee (moving Cedeno to 2B). He also says Greg and Mike Maddux talk 2-3 times a day and do advanced scouting for each other before every series, so don't underestimate the importance of Mike being in Milwaukee. I am NOT impressed with Hardy, whatsoever. He is anothe rversion of Cedeno, IMO. Good/great glove with a questionable bat. Heck, even right now..Cedeno has a better bat then Hardy. Maddux for Hardy would be foolish.

Steve has the appropiate last name for his "man love" of Cesar Izturis...he is stoned...Why should the Cubs give up ARam for Cesar, when all it would take is prolly Wuertz, or Novoa to land Cesar's brother, Maicer? Stoney ain't thinking logically.

I say Jackson follows Capuano and throws a complete game shut-out. 3-0. The Cubs do make him sweat abit, but forcing him to throw close to 70 pitches in this game. After the game Jackson will remark to the reporters, that "he has never faced such a patient team like the Cubs."

Because of the division rival, unofficial rule, the Brewers will have to overpay just a little bit to get Maddux. Which is possible, considering the D'Backs and Dodgers are atleast two teams (both of which are competing against the Brewers for the Wild Card), I suspect, the Cubs could get two solid prospect, who can help in 07, instead of one great prospect who might help in 2008.

First: If the Cubs were to trade Zambrano (TEAMS WOULD BE LINING UP) the organization might as well do a complete sweep, and trade off the team and rebuild, ala the Marlins. Second: Zambrano is going to re-sign in the offseason. Because unlike KW, Z keeps himself in good baseball shape, and has spend very little to no time on the DL (how he does it, i haven't the clue). Which means it would behoove the Cubs to keep Carlos in Chicago for a LONG TIME, if not his whole career. Third: Depending on what Hendry does in the offseason (should he land Lee and Zito?), the Cubs figure to be more competitive in 2007, and trading Zambrano would be a horrific move (without screwing the other team) and tremendous PR disaster. My guess is...Zambrano will be a Cubs for a VERY long time.
