  1. There's a couple for Baker: 1. With Baker only: "Walk this way." I believe by Run DMC. 2. Baker/Hendry: "Ebony and Ivory" (living in perfect harmony) Freddy Bynum: "Centerfield." John Fogerty Nefti Perez: "Beat it." Michael Jackson Glendon Rusch: "Eat it" Wierd Al's parody. Carlos Zambrano to me would be: My Hero by Goo Goo Dolls I'd think of someone in a few.
  2. No, I don't want Soriano. Not because of talent, attitude or anything like that, but simply because he would be a two month rental. He's not going to re-sign with an NL team unless he got a similar deal that Beltran got. And quite frankly, neither player is worth that contract. Besides....the Cubs are about 20 wins away (10 wins to get to .500, another 10 wins to get to 10 over .500) before they can consider adding talent to this roster. 20 wins? I don't think they should add talent if they're still in the same spot they were now, but don't you think 20 wins is a bit steep? If the records for everybody else remain around the same, that would put us in the WC lead, and 1 game out of the division. I think we should probably consider adding some talent if we can get within 5-6 games of either the division or WC as we get closer to the trading deadline. Looking at now...20 wins is not steep enough. In other words...the Cubs should NOT be trying to added impact bats now, because it would be a waste of time.
  3. Incorrect. That was his first start. Before his first start he pitched in 4 innings in Houston. Compiling numbers of: 0.00 ERA, 0.75 whip, 6:0 k:bb. Granted a very small sample, but enough of a sample, especially after his start, to justify a "bandwagon/bandwgn." Can't speak for anybody else, but this kid, like Zambrano gives me hope that the Cubs can win a game. So, plz don't ask people to "chill" about an exciting young pitcher, plz? Remember what Glendon Rusch did last year? (6-2) Your comparing a young 23 yr old pitcher, making his MLB debut, witha 32 yr old reliever, he if right handed, should be out of the league? Marmol has LEGITMATE MLB talent, Rusch has legitmate KFC talent. NOT A FAIR COMPARASION. All I am saying is, this could be beginners luck. Possibly, but when Jered Weaver does the same thing, people are all over him, like he is a GOD. Yet, when Marmol has come up throwing bullets, you want to call it "luck." It's NOT luck to get ML hitters out. Lets hope I'm wrong! There is no hope, YOU ARE WRONG. Just waiting for you to jump on the Marmol bandwagon/bandwgn. :D
  4. The Cubs fans have it worse: The Royals pre-Moore: They basically didn't care, plus they were cheap. The Pirates: are cheap The Devil Rays: are both cheap, but also haven't been in the majors to know what misery is about. So yes....the Cubs fan, officially have it "worse" when it comes to cheering for a team.
  5. First: Is it me, or is Dusty Baker's IQ goes down on a daily basis? Right now, I wish the Cubs would hire the kid from "Rookie of the Year," seeing as he would have more baseball insight then Baker. Second: We just have to continue to have confidence that guys like Bruce Miles, Jay M. (yeah, the Cubs sucking fits in his hatred of the Trib), etc, etc keeps POUNDING the Cubs. I want the heat so hot, that on the season finale in October, Baker is basically RUNNING out the door, refusing to sign an extension. That's the kind of pressure I want to see done.
  6. I personally believe that is Sammy had devoted himself to baseball strictly, HE would be the best pitcher in the 06 draft, and NOT Miller. But because of his "split commitments" we don't know where Sammy is in terms of development. Sammy is said to be able to hit low to mid 90s, touching high 90s alot of times. His off speed pitches are definately a work in progress, and depends on who you ask...some people likes Sammy slider, (I've heard it's been compare to Clement's, not sure how accurate that is, but if it's true... ) and some thinks is a sloppy curve. Nonetheless....Sammy is definately a FIRST RD PICK, that dropped due to his "football commitments." If the Cubs get him to drop football for good, then the Cubs, will without a doubt get the TRUE STEAL of the 2006 draft.
  7. If we going to be bad, be bad. Stop with the pixie dust abuse. The Cubs management needs to stop pretending this team can "still make a run when all of their horses come back." I think we all agree....that ain't happenin'.
  8. And my guess is...Larry Rothschild and Gene Clines will be the next great coaching switcheroo. With Larry teaching "hitting", and Cline working with the "pitchers." I mean, the Cubs can SAVE SOME MONEY be keeping the same coaches, just moving them to new roles.
  9. Is it Carrie Muskat? Maybe her awful voice carries over to her crap writing. who knows, but it's like a dentist's drill to my ear Could be worse. .... Glendon could still be pitching. Be realistic...when was the last time Glendon pitched into the 9th? As a starter or as a reliever? :-k
  10. Why? Baker still would have "The Veteran" John Mabry on the roster.
  11. The good news is, as good as he is with spending FA money; he's got a spotty track record on trades (Benson for Julio; Kazmir for Little Z). Duquette made the Kazmir deal. But Omar DID do the Cliff Lee/Grady Sizemore/Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon deal.
  12. The only hope I have is that the media pretty much bands together, and makes the next 3 1/2 months SO UNBEARABLE that Baker will not considered coming back. I want Baker/Hendry faced their music EVERY DAY. They can't run and hide behind injuries and bad breaks, they need to take the public execution on a daily basis.
  13. How is he "not good at getting on base"? He's got a .346 OBP this season (at the age of 24). I'd say .346 is good, ecspecially when you consider how young he is. He doesn't strike out too much (26 Ks in 242 ABs so far this year), has a decent OBP, has some good power, and a ton of speed. If this is the best he'll get, then I don't think he would command "an arm and a leg", but he's very young and improving. He also has stolen bases at a 81.5% success rate over his career. You think .346 is "good.... . .346 is pretty average for a "leadoff hitter" with his speed and pop. Not to mention Crawford career OBP is .323, so...as of right now...if I was the DRays I would jumped on Santana/Crawford deal before the Angels reconsider. Having Kazmir/Santana at the top of the rotation, would finally give the DRays pitching hope for the not so distant future. Unless it's a decent offer, I would pass on Crawford.
  14. Ecspecially with the way their middle relief has been all year. Why are people surprise at what Guillen does, anymore? Guillen has clearly gone from outspoken, to reserve a room at Bellevue. Guillen is a not a POS, he is the full thing. If Ozzie is trying to make the White Sox that thug organization again, he doing a great job. But, man, how I would love to punch Guillen in the face.
  15. I hate to break it to you...Brenly rode "Showalter's team" to the World Series. All Brenly did was sit back and enjoy the ride.
  16. They can, they're just too stubborn to. And it would also signal that Hendry would finally admit to making a "mistake" in DFA Rusch. I mean, if we start with Rusch, then DFA and/or release Perez (Theriot could replace) Bynum (Restovich would replace) and any other POC on the team. But can anybody actually see Hendry admitting publically he made a mistake?
  17. So Serena, I have to dispute the bolded part. Just because you can walk up to the plate and stand in either batters' box, and "swing a bat" doesn't mean you can label a switch-hitter. Guys like Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, Mark Teixeria, Carlos Beltran, Victor Martinez, Jorge Posada, Jason Varitek are insulted at the mere suggestion that Perez is a "switch-hitter." Just call Perez an "Equal Opportunity Activist" cause he doesn't discrimate against a particular pitcher, he is crap to every pitcher in baseball. 8)
  18. From what I've read, MLB can pressure the Cubs but can't block it completely. Yep, MLB can make their feelings on the matter clear, but that's all they can do. Both EPatt and Grant Johnson were signed to contracts well above slot money, for example. It's one thing to offer an 8th round pick like E-Patt 3rd round money... it's another to offer a 5th round pick more money than any other player in the draft. In terms of MLB's power to stop it, it's the same thing. They CAN'T stop it, nonetheless. And if the deal was "correct" I could see MLB's frustration, because it would be a dangerous precedence for future drafts. Which is why I really wish baseballl would have a SALARY scale similar to the NBA. Something like: 1st/2nd would have a scale similar to the NBA(and supplemental rds between 1-2, and 2-3) would stay the same. 3 rd: No players drafted in this rd cannot sign for more then $700k. 4th: $600k 5th: 500k 6th: 400k 7th: 300k 8th: 200k 9-10: 100k 11 and blow: can sign a deal up to 100k. Or something similar to this. That way....MLB takes away ANY and EVERY ounce of power the likes of Boras may have. Meaning...kids lik Andrew Miller would go to places like KC and not pull a stunt like Miller tried. (Miller had his bous demands so high, that he would fall to the Red Sox at 26, which the rumor had him already having a handshake deal)
  19. I agreed. I'm tired of seeing Craig Biggio.
  20. Where's the fun when you can grabbed the early lead? I am going to steal a quote made by former Raiders coach Bill Callahan, "The Cubs are the DUMBEST team in baseball." The Royals don't care....the Marlins are too young....the Pirates are too cheap....the Cubs are just too DUMB... Oh please, don't start quoting Bill Callahan. I'm a Raiders fan. Doesn't make the statement less true, does it? It's just as true, I just hate Bill Callahan. touche'
