  1. For those concerned about your brackets, here's a blurb from Brian Dohn in today's Daily News:
  2. I've never heard that. It used to be that the pitcher's were ahead of the hitters (in general) during ST. It evens up in the middle and latter parts of ST. The Cactus League definitely favors hitters.
  3. I don't think they can beat Florida's athletic bigs, but I do have them in the Elite 8. Great shooting team that can put points up in a hurry, Brooks is a fantastic player and they're getting hot at the right time. They're finally playing defense too. I have Florida over the Ducks in that region.
  4. Hey now, UCLA is not crappy.
  5. Was Wade Miller able to maintain his velocity beyond the 1st two innings? He was making minor league rehab starts last year where he would touch 87-89 and a maybe flirt with 90 once or twice and by the 3rd end up around 84-85. It appeared he was. This also falls under the category of "all things being equal." In fact, even if Miller's velocity does drop during games, the Cubs will figure that he'll "know how to pitch" without it. I'm not saying that's right or wrong; it's just what they'll figure. And don't discount the minor-league option that Guzman has. I understand all this, but don't you think it would be more wise to give Guzman a chance with the big boys first, before just burning that last option? If they send him down right off, then the next time they bring him up it's for good or gone. I also think Prior has a place in this argument. Even if Miller were traded, Mark might be able to progress enough to be ready after maybe 3 Guzman starts. That would buy a little breathing room to consider a Miller trade in my mind. I've been gone for a while here on the off-day, so unless somebody has mentioned this, you can option a guy as many times as you want during the year. He is not "out of options" until next year.
  6. I honestly doubt it affects him playing and playing to his ability. He's starting tomorrow and UCLA has completely downplayed it (which they didn't done with injuries when a player ended up missing a game). As I understand it, the main concern would come from re-aggravating the injury.
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
  8. You Tube time!! :D :)
  9. Hey, I ignore goony's posts. Apparently you ignore my posts as well :D O:)
  10. I like UCLA, but go Weber State tomorrow night! It wouldn't feel great though if it's because Collison was down, so I hope he's ready to go tomorrow. I echo that sentiment, as if my Hoosiers beat Gonzaga, I'd love to play Weber State instead of UCLA. The Collison injury is certainly one to track, if it's serious. The Bruins lost at West Virgiana without him, as everybody knows. That said, if recent history is any indication, they've survived one injury to a point guard (Tyus Edny). Regardless, UCLA should win its first two games. I really like Russell Westbrook's potential but he's no Cameron Dollar. It's a grade one sprain, Darren was seen walking to the plane at LAX with no noticeable problems. Hopefully UCLA can jump up to a big lead and rest Darren the rest of the way tomorrow. Not sure we can beat Indiana or Gonzaga without DC.
  11. Darren Collison sprained his ankle in practice yesterday but is probable against Weber State tomorrow. :?
  12. I've seen AP pics of him with the big league team (before the Texas Rangers game, I think) so he's definitely in Arizona. Maybe he was with the big leaguers when you were at the minor league camp?
  13. 1. Performance does matter. He's basically a ball of potential right now, like a ton of other guys in the minors. He just happens to have a high ametuer profile. 2. Good for him. Where has that taken the hundreds of other great athletes who have came and went? 3. The slider low and away appears to be one of many weaknesses. Theres also the complete lack of power, the high Ks, the ridiculously high and unsustainable BABIP are all pretty decent obstacles. I realize Maybin's potential, but right now thats all he really is. He's good at some parts of the game (defense specifically), but VERY raw in some huge parts of the game. Complete lack of power? It will come.
  14. No, it wouldn't. The Cubs can shuttle him between the big leagues and the minors all season if they wanted to.
  15. Seeing as the temps are getting into the mid-90s during the day in Phoenix already, it's probably a good idea.
  16. Sort of like facing Prior, Wood and Z in the big leagues... (:()
  17. Haha, Gallagher, Veal and Samardzija? That's a hell of a front end of the rotation.
  18. Aww, you guys are going to see the White Sox? You'll miss seeing Mark Prior pitching at Fitch!!
  19. Teams definitely conduct try-outs. I went to an Orioles try-out my senior year of high school. I highly doubt they have a walk-on sort of thing. The Padres invited a Marine to camp who had just gotten back from Iraq. He's supposed to be a pitcher, but he's missing a finger or two on his throwing hand from when a flash-bang went off in his hand. I haven't heard much about how he's doing though... Not to lessen the story, because it is a nice one, but he lost a finger (I believe his pinky) on his non-throwing hand. I have not heard how he has faired so far this spring, but I'll check it out. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/majors/features/263439.html

  21. Nah. It'll end in the 9th... Was that a prediction? That was an abrupt and quick way for the Diamondbacks to win it.
  22. Carrie Muskat chimes in. Mentions what Samardzija thought of his facing Barry Bonds.
  23. Yeah, the Cubs took him as a 19th rounder in 2004 (as a sophomore - he slipped because of his bonus demands) and he returned to college. Wasn't he at GT when we drafted him, but then he transferred to Tulane? Yup. That year, the Cubs drafted EPatt and Owings. Eric signed with the Cubs and Micah decided to transfer to Tulane.
