  1. I think it's just the hope. It just doesn't make sense to me to send him down if that weren't the case considering how well he's been pitching. Not just hope anymore. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070417cubsbits,1,6444674.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines "Guzman will move into the rotation at Iowa and likely will make two starts before the Cubs decide whether to bring him back as a starter. With an off-day on April 26, the Cubs will need their fifth starter only one more time until May 1 at Pittsburgh." The writing is on the wall, Mr. Miller. Not to bring the idea down any, but you're just quoting Paul Sullivan's speculations. If this has basis in what he has heard from a team official, he certainly didn't present it that way. I agree that the only other explanation for the move is unparalleled ignorance, but nothing would shock me with this organization. I guess I'm just saying it's still just hope and speculation. Either way, most Chicago newspapers are now saying Guzman will be going down to AAA to start so he'll get stretched out. Hopefully it is to push Miller out.
  2. Yay, Vlad might be back on Friday!
  3. What is the scoop on Holliman? I remember the Cubs drafting him, but don't remember the scouting report. Is he a guy that relies on control? FB around 88-91 mph (90-92 mph when he was in college), good curve, slider and change. Last season he started out real strong too but really tailed off in July and August. Still think he's a reliever? Hehehe, let's see how he holds up in the second half this season and if his velo has bounced back. He's started this season much better than last season, though.
  4. Based on what? He's gotten older (turns 32 this season) and it's been 4 seasons since he played shortstop. He doesn't look as mobile as he did when he was with the Rangers (but hey, he'd still be a better defensive SS than Jeter). If, as Bob said, he could prove me wrong, I'd love a Z-for-ARod trade.
  5. Game-time temperature: 67°F Feels like: 67° Mostly cloudy, 10% chance of preciptiation. Winds blowing from RF to LF at about 5 mph.
  6. I don't think ARod will play SS, nor am I sure he can...
  7. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (1-0, 1.64 ERA, 11 IP) Tennessee: RHP Sean Gallagher (1-1, 3.38 ERA, 10.2 IP) Daytona: RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-0, 2.70 ERA, 10 IP) - Samardzija's home opener Peoria: RHP Jose Pina (0-1, 1.80 ERA, 5 IP) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (1-0, 1.23 ERA) Walrond: 11 IP, 6 K/3 BB, .171 BAA Gallagher: 10.2 IP, 9 K/2 BB, .211 BAA Samardzija: 10 IP, 3 K/3 BB, .263 BAA Pina: 5 IP, 5 K/3 BB, .188 BAA

  9. DeRosa's diving stop was BBTN's #2 web gem, Pie's throw was #5. What a beautiful throw. :)
  10. Ohman is a good LOOGY, the Cubs keep trying to use him for a full inning and against multiple righties.
  11. Iowa tied it up, off to extra innings we go!
  12. Peoria did notch the 4-2 win. Josh Lansford went 2 for 5 with a double, Alfred Joseph went 2 for 3.
  13. Was anyone else wondering how long 1908 can talk to himself until Jon ruined it?
  14. I'm sure there's a bit of demand for Jones and Ohman.
  15. Guzman has pitched much better during this season than he did in Spring Training, and Miller has not. What's transpired during the season could justifiably cause Lou to reconsider his earlier decision. so the cubs decided miller was better than guzman based on their 17 and 13 ip in spring training, and then realized they were wrong based on their 11 and 7 ip in the regular season? this seems like a bad way to make decisions. it should've been obvious to everyone that miller sucked before the season started. if the cubs INSISTED on giving him a shot, with the knowledge that he'd only get 2-3 starts before cutting bait, why not start guzman at AAA so he's ready to come up and start at a moment's notice? if you look at his game log, you'll see that guzman's been pitching in blowouts and games where we're behind by at least a few runs. he's not doing anything special that requires a particularly talented pitcher. we could be running anybody out there in his spot to this point and be no worse off. Seemed to me like the Cubs went with the veteran over the youngster after spring and sending Gooz might be insurance in case Miller continues to be horrid. Piniella wanted Guzman on the 25-man, but long men aren't used that often so it's a waste when Angel could be starting at AAA.
  16. Cavs up 73-70 on the 76ers late in the third quarter.
  17. Iowa up 1-0 in the middle of the third inning. O'Malley: 3 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 H. Tennessee up 4-1 after four innings. Holliman: 4 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K/1 BB. Dope and Robinson each hit a HR in the first. Peoria up 3-2 after four innings. Muldowney: 4 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 6 H, 2 K/0 BB. Jonathan Mota is 1 for 1 with a 2-RBI single.
  18. Chris Robinson also HRed for Tennessee in the first inning. Here's a Knoxville News Sentinel piece on him.

  20. In Before Lock.
  21. The planet where Gooz is stretched out to replace Wade Miller.
  22. Whoops, my bad. Let me update the draft board on the first page.
