  1. Sold. Take him at 7.
  2. I could see trading for a starter if things don't get better (I think they will), but Hamels makes no sense. He has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the rest of our starters. He's lost a couple MPH off his fastball, so now his walk rate is creeping up because he's nibbling, and when he does throw strikes he's giving up homeruns like crazy. I really don’t see a scenario playing out where we trade for or sign a starter of any more significance than a Eddie Butler. yeah, i was thinking something along the lines of the cahill/richard moves in 2015, to give them an extra arm for that crazy stretch of games in august, but that's about it.
  3. any interesting draft and stash guys projected to be available around 22? the bulls have had some success with that approach in recent-ish years with Asik and Mirotic.
  4. Nightengale certainly doesn't. even if, worst case, Q & Yu don't turn it around, we're very much set with the rotation, for better or worse. with Smyly and maybe Adbert as guys that can step in if such a worst-case scenario arises.
  5. it's Bob Nightengale, so it's really not even worth sharing, but I'm sharing anyway: [tweet] [/tweet] i like Hamels. but, we don't have the pieces to trade for him, we don't have room on the roster, and we don't have the financial flexibility to fit him in without compromising our chances with Harper and Machado. so, a typical Nightengale rumor.
  6. definitely the no walks. this is chatwood’s version of a no hitter. i’m on the edge of my seat. i jinxed the no walker. sorry guys.

  8. Nice pitch, Chatwood. Shockingly efficient first two innings.
  9. wtf is wrong with this horsefeathering defense
  10. quintana is tough to watch right now, but i think he's going to be fine. i'm more concerned about darvish. really interested in seeing tomorrow if the time off helped him any. but what i really want to see improved is the defense. they had a stretch of clean games last week, but now they're back to sloppiness all over the field over the past two games. i do expect it to improve, because they have strong defenders all over the field, but it's been frustrating.
  11. Dwayne Wade is a superstar but no NFL player is (Brady, Rodgers, whatever)? Brady was a hard no... not in enough commercials, not recognizable enough according to their own straw polls. Rodgers wasn’t mentioned. Kobe, Shaq, ARod, and Peyton Manning are still superstars.
  12. tonight I had a conversation with several cubs fans about the Bryant superstar thing. their conclusion was that Passan and that other guy’s assessment was accurate, and the only currently active superstars in American sports are Lebron, Dwyane Wade, Tiger Woods, and maaaybe Steph Curry and Landon Donovan. .......I disagree.
  13. this is going to be our 20-run game if the weather cooperates
