  1. so hickey actually has turned things around
  2. This feels like a Ziegler level deal. Not getting the other marlins guys for this kinda package, you’d think.
  3. Yankees have acquired $2.5 million in IFA money this weekend...
  4. Britton, arguably, wasn’t even a top 5 option. So yes. Conley, Yates, Pressly, Soria, Barraclough, Steckenrider, Lugo to name a few. I said realistic because most of those guys haven’t really been mentioned in too many trade rumors. In particular, the asking price on Marlins guys has been reported to be extremely high. And hard no on Soria for me. ok, so there are tweets out there saying that teams are seemingly willing to meet the marlins' asking price for Barraclough. if this is a realistic possibility, i'm all for it. i'm guessing getting him and Conley together is out of the realm of possibility, but having two relievers like those guys controlled through 2022 would be quite nice. Conley, in particular, fills an offseason need with Wilson a FA and Monty a possible starter/trade bait.
  5. Seems like a big flaw in the penalties then. Just keep the funds in years you can't spend more than $300k on individual free agents and roll it over to years you can. isn't the bonus pool a hard cap now, though? so there would be no penalty box going forward and this would only apply to pools from last year and this year while we ride out the teams that were grandfathered into the penalty?
  6. Which is interesting, because the reported signings thus far are: José Lopez - $1.5 million Richard Gallardo - $1 million Joel Machado - $850,000 Rafael Morel - $850,000 Yohendrick Pinango - $400,000 That totals $4.6 million, Jesse Sanchez only has a total ~$1.93 million in signings based on his $3.05 million total. yeah, if those bonuses are accurate, don't the Cubs have $383,500 left? How could there be such a wide gulf between that number and Sanchez's?
  7. He has a team option after this year right? Not that they will pick it up or anything even if he turns into an ace down the stretch and wins the world series. Yup, $20 million team option with a $6 million dollar buyout that the Rangers are picking up. But yeah, no chance they pick it up.
  8. he needs to get to 252. the option vests with 400 total innings pitched between this year and last. Bobson, reading is horsefeathering hard ok? that's what i'm here for.
  9. How many of those starts weee in Texas? three. against oakland, the white sox, and the padres. the two road starts were against the orioles and the tigers. i'm not 100% against signing him, because it means chatwood's days in the rotation are hopefully numbered, unless they do go to a six-man staff. and it sounds like the cost is minimal. but i don't know that it's going to help us much.
  10. in his last 5 starts cole hamels has a 10.23 ERA and has made it past the 5th inning once. so i guess what i'm saying is he'll fit right in.
  11. He's a rental. I would venture to guess there's no chance he gets to 200 IP this season to vest his option. he needs to get to 252. the option vests with 400 total innings pitched between this year and last.
  12. i'd go so far as to say i'd trade caratini, lastella, and montgomery for him!
  13. https://theathletic.com/446030/2018/07/25/the-cubs-sit-atop-the-national-league-but-the-view-could-be-better/ they were talking about this on mully & hanley this morning too. really throws a wrench into any trade plans. but maybe bote's a guy worth keeping around regardless of bryant's health, so it could end up working out for us.
  14. something i saw floating around last night was that the cubs might be pushing more for Stroman than Happ. i can't really imagine why the jays would deal him now with his value at his lowest. but, if they do, is this something people would be into? his walks are up this year, but aside from that, his numbers look pretty in line with his career norms. FIP and xFIP point to some bad luck.
  15. this is really hard for me to get on board with given gleyber's debut, but i'm a believer in paredes (in large part thanks to you), and was just looking at his stats the other day. he's gonna be a really nice player.
  16. they don't did a trade
  17. No no no. Can’t even use the old “Bosio will fix him” justification Wait, why wouldn't we want Happ given the state of our rotation? I'd love to get him, personally. yup, same. after wheeler, he's 2nd on my list of preferred targets of what's rumored to still be available.
  18. Britton, arguably, wasn’t even a top 5 option. So yes. Conley, Yates, Pressly, Soria, Barraclough, Steckenrider, Lugo to name a few. 19. Any realistic upgrades left on the reliever market now?
  20. where are you seeing this? i don't see any tweets from that guy this month. and he has like 100 followers.
  21. if we trade for him, i have a hard time seeing wheeler not being a part of our playoff rotation. Lester/Hendricks/Q/Yu is the playoff rotation (in some order). Yu is gonna be back. you can make a case that he's been better than all of them this season. he's had control issues, but he keeps the ball in the park and he racks up strikeouts at a really healthy clip. he has easily the highest WAR and FIP of anyone in our rotation and all the targets mentioned recently (bundy, gausman, duffy, shields, ross, eovaldi, hamels), and xfip second only to eovaldi. i don't know who the odd man out would be, but i don't know how it could be wheeler outside of clubhouse politics reasons.
