  1. Given the emphasis on bullpens in the playoffs, I’d rather devote resources to the bullpen to make it as strong as possible for October. But I think the rotation has reached the point where we need to throw away some useless prospects to get a guy who will eat innings for the rest of the regular season. This is why I like Wheeler so much. He can start the rest of the year, he’s throwing mid 90s on the FB and 90 on the slider. Move him to the pen come playoffs and he likely gets a velo bump and could be a huge weapon for 1-2 inning bursts if we trade for him, i have a hard time seeing wheeler not being a part of our playoff rotation.
  2. Well, it could be worse. It could have been a MAGA hat (worst possible hat scenario IMO). Why the hell is he wearing a White Sox cap? Like seriously, he's from California and he's not Ice Cube. A MAGA hat is best case scenario. You don't want America to be great? Strange times... Why do you guys have to shove your political opinions into every post you make?
  3. Teams probably prefer not to trade ML pieces at deadline if contending. But if Theo was willing to trade Nomar at the deadline, even if it was 14 years ago, you can never rule it out with him. In a move that quietly got him Big Papi, right? Nope, he was already there. Mienkewitz and Orlando Cabrera. (Or Hudson?)
  4. horsefeathers yeah, time for a big trade This reads like he is talking about the team’s SP in general. Yeah I was thinking it could apply to the rotation as a whole.
  5. Doesn’t sound like we can really expect Yu back anytime soon. Also reads to me like we’re in the market for starting pitching.
  6. dfa la stella. god, we can't have this kind of horsefeathers out of our relievers.
  7. put in chatwood to take the beating. start chavez tomorrow.
  8. Also Dansby Swanson, Yoan Moncada. What about Dansby Swanson? ...he was an elite positional prospect that got moved.
  9. The Cubs traded one last year and another the year before. And they traded for one the year before that. Also Dansby Swanson, Yoan Moncada.
  10. This guy is the new Sean Sears in that I have no desire to ever read his thoughts on literally anything but his entire Twitter fed gets posted here. And it’s a double whammy cuz so does he.
  11. I guess Lester starts a game 1 right now, but man, our bats sure look like they'll have to carry us through October right now. #bullpenning Just carry Lester and 13 relievers on the playoff roster.
  12. the nl has maybe two terrible teams compared to like nine in the AL.
  13. Russell, Happ, Schwarber, and Monty. LOL. The writers in this industry are so horsefeathering bad haha, exactly what i was thinking. is russell along better than the package they got? probably. also gives me hope that we can package together some crap from our system to get something meaningful.
  14. Done deal. Judging by the reaction, doesn’t seem like it’s a really severe package that LA had to give up?
  15. Is that because Kawhi will refuse to play there? Because otherwise I like this move for Toronto. Wasn’t the knock on them for the last few years that they had depth but didn’t have the elite guy for the playoffs? Now they still have depth but have the top line guy to go with him. I know Derozan is no slouch but I’d take Kawhi easily. But if Kawhi refuses to go there, that changes things obviously.
  16. Wow, it's just one sentence, but you fit in three wrong statements- that's tough to do. 1- He wasn't "oldish" when he broke out. He was 19 or just turned 20 when he broke-out in Short season A ball. 2- No arm injury. 3- He didn't lose a year of development. He got eight starts in in AAA and very well could pitch in the fall and winter. I don’t think most consider his 53 innings in 2015 his breakout year, especially given what he followed it up with the next year.
  17. No, nothing to imagine there. Someone said there were no glowing reports about Underwood and I simply corrected him by pointing a glowing report... Sorry that bothered you so much. No bother, it’s just useless for the purposes of this conversation.
  18. What does a season ending arm injury have to do with Alzolay? The Cubs posted at least a couple statements about Alzaloy's performance in Iowa, you should check them out. For him being in Iowa, I was jacked he was there and his good stuff was dominating. Not giving guys like Underwood and Clifton credit for improved seasons is unreasonable. Heck, Underwood made his MLB debut and was respectable against the Dodgers. And, you should check yourself about not having "glowing reports". The Cubs brass issued atleast one "glowing report" about Underwood performance to start the year. Oh the cubs had good things to say about players in their farm system? Imagine that.
  19. the t is actually silent it's pronounced david bowie
  20. Reading this article on the Ringer about trading for rentals, and this part gets a big eye roll from me: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2018/7/16/17571406/trade-deadline-manny-machado-baltimore-orioles-rumor-rental Yes, the Cubs player development system probably wouldn't have been the right place for Torres to maximize his potential, as evidenced by the disappointments of Addison Russell, Ian Happ, and Javier Baez.
  21. For a team with five all stars, the brewers are pretty horsefeathering bad.
  22. A little disappointed sure, he can bet better. But to act like he’s been no good at all and a complete bum like a huge chunk of the fan base has acted is equally obnoxious and out of line. is that happening here? i know brett wasn't speaking about here, but i don't really care what the twitter idiots and everyone's uncle think about quintana. he's been fine. but, given his track record, age, stuff, and health, he really should be the best performer on this staff. instead, this year, he's been less valuable than pedro strop and as valuable as cishek. my disappointment is always going to be relative to my super high, but i think reasonable, expectations for him. i want him to go back to being a super stud.
