    Nick Madrigal is a low baseball IQ player with one tool that actually isn’t that strong of a tool. Also the Cubs don’t have 52 worthwhile prospects. Stop it.

    Nearly no one on this team should be considered “locked in” for 2024. Swanson, Hoerner, and Steele is probably about it. That doesn’t mean the roster needs to be turned over aside from those three, but if there’s an opportunity to improve on current production, it should be done.

    So he’s a 25-y.o. COF/1B (and if we’re to believe Suzuki and Happ have the corner OF spots on like for next year as Matt suggests above—a commitment I believe would be a mistake—then he’d be penciled in at 1B) who’s had nagging wrist injuries that have limited him to one full season of PAs over 2.5 seasons and has shown mediocre power at best when he has been able to get on the field. I don’t see the appeal.

    My brain stupidly translated the Braves logo to A’s, and somehow I still got 2/3 in the top row. Couldn’t for the life of me figure out why Rickey Henderson or Giambi weren’t being accepted for .300 hitter.

    The 2024 Cubs have Steele, Taillon, and Wesneski as under-contract rotation options before factoring in any prospects with no MLB experience. They have a lot of work to do on the rotation if they have aspirations of competing next year. I lean toward the idea that maintaining that 2024 option heading into the off-season is more valuable than the prospect return he’d net.

    I think it has to be. .150/.247/.316 going back to April 20. After that hot stretch to open the season, he’s been a total negative.

    He did reel it in a bit later in the year. Small sample size, but for the first 55 games he averaged 4.7 3PA per game; after that, 3.3. I can live with that volume if he can carry that over to next year.

    It’s crazy how quickly starting pitching has become a strength of the farm system. Adding Brown, Wesneski, Horton and Ferris over the past twelve months is quite the infusion of talent.

    Yeah, fair enough if someone wanted Carter, Jones, Skoronski, Gonzalez, whoever. But it’s not like they drafted a non-premium position like RB or ILB in the top 20. They filled a need at an important position. They might’ve reached a little. Not a D-.

    Assuming PJJ is off the board, I’m ok with whatever direction Poles wants to go between OL, DB, and WR. Fine with a trade down too. I like Skoronski a lot, but after listening to Brandon Thorn from Trench Warfare talk about him on Hoge & Jahns podcast last week, it seems his best fit as as a guard, where Thorn believes he can be elite. What OL talent the team does have is concentrated on the interior, but I’m not opposed to upgrading if there’s an all-pro caliber G sitting there. That said, we’re still left with a gaping hole at RT and could still certainly afford to upgrade at center. I’m fine with Wright or Jones if they feel like they can come right in and play and stabilize RT, but can get on board with Witherspoon/Gonzalez or one of the WRs to really turn one of those position groups into a strength and hedge against impending FA departures.

    It feels like the rotation is already entirely made up of mid-rotation pieces. That’s not to say it can’t afford to be upgraded, of course. I’d love a true TOR guy, though I don’t know where that’ll come from in-season.

    I’m shy of 2,000 even if/when my missing posts come back but I’ve been bumming around this site for 20 years so I hope I get to stick around the social forum after those parameters are implemented.
