How many of those starts weee in Texas? three. against oakland, the white sox, and the padres. the two road starts were against the orioles and the tigers. i'm not 100% against signing him, because it means chatwood's days in the rotation are hopefully numbered, unless they do go to a six-man staff. and it sounds like the cost is minimal. but i don't know that it's going to help us much. -

in his last 5 starts cole hamels has a 10.23 ERA and has made it past the 5th inning once. so i guess what i'm saying is he'll fit right in. -
He's a rental. I would venture to guess there's no chance he gets to 200 IP this season to vest his option. he needs to get to 252. the option vests with 400 total innings pitched between this year and last.

something i saw floating around last night was that the cubs might be pushing more for Stroman than Happ. i can't really imagine why the jays would deal him now with his value at his lowest. but, if they do, is this something people would be into? his walks are up this year, but aside from that, his numbers look pretty in line with his career norms. FIP and xFIP point to some bad luck.

this is really hard for me to get on board with given gleyber's debut, but i'm a believer in paredes (in large part thanks to you), and was just looking at his stats the other day. he's gonna be a really nice player. -

No no no. Can’t even use the old “Bosio will fix him” justification Wait, why wouldn't we want Happ given the state of our rotation? I'd love to get him, personally. yup, same. after wheeler, he's 2nd on my list of preferred targets of what's rumored to still be available.

Britton, arguably, wasn’t even a top 5 option. So yes. Conley, Yates, Pressly, Soria, Barraclough, Steckenrider, Lugo to name a few. I said realistic because most of those guys haven’t really been mentioned in too many trade rumors. In particular, the asking price on Marlins guys has been reported to be extremely high. And hard no on Soria for me.

if we trade for him, i have a hard time seeing wheeler not being a part of our playoff rotation. Lester/Hendricks/Q/Yu is the playoff rotation (in some order). Yu is gonna be back. you can make a case that he's been better than all of them this season. he's had control issues, but he keeps the ball in the park and he racks up strikeouts at a really healthy clip. he has easily the highest WAR and FIP of anyone in our rotation and all the targets mentioned recently (bundy, gausman, duffy, shields, ross, eovaldi, hamels), and xfip second only to eovaldi. i don't know who the odd man out would be, but i don't know how it could be wheeler outside of clubhouse politics reasons.

Given the emphasis on bullpens in the playoffs, I’d rather devote resources to the bullpen to make it as strong as possible for October. But I think the rotation has reached the point where we need to throw away some useless prospects to get a guy who will eat innings for the rest of the regular season. This is why I like Wheeler so much. He can start the rest of the year, he’s throwing mid 90s on the FB and 90 on the slider. Move him to the pen come playoffs and he likely gets a velo bump and could be a huge weapon for 1-2 inning bursts if we trade for him, i have a hard time seeing wheeler not being a part of our playoff rotation.

Well, it could be worse. It could have been a MAGA hat (worst possible hat scenario IMO). Why the hell is he wearing a White Sox cap? Like seriously, he's from California and he's not Ice Cube. A MAGA hat is best case scenario. You don't want America to be great? Strange times... Why do you guys have to shove your political opinions into every post you make? -
Teams probably prefer not to trade ML pieces at deadline if contending. But if Theo was willing to trade Nomar at the deadline, even if it was 14 years ago, you can never rule it out with him. In a move that quietly got him Big Papi, right? Nope, he was already there. Mienkewitz and Orlando Cabrera. (Or Hudson?)

Doesn’t sound like we can really expect Yu back anytime soon. Also reads to me like we’re in the market for starting pitching.
