I'm guessing that means there are 3 unique streaks longer than theirs, not just 3 teams with longer streaks. Cause if it's the latter, well I just have no faith in statistics anymore. Why would that be? There are only 11 teams left that are undefeated this season. It is not unlikely that only 4 of them finished last season winning their last few games as well to have a longer current winning streak. I think the streak that TCU had broken last week was only 13 games or something, so I'd tend to think that could be right. Yeah, I remember after TCU lost I checked to see who had the longest and in calculating was surprised how many teams had streaks broken by bowl games. FTR, OSU is first with 12 in a row, then WVU with 11, and Florida with 7.

If you're rooting for a good team, three quarters of the game have no meaning or are never contested. Look at Texas last year. Where's the intensity in playing one difficult game before the championship? Every other game they won by between 25 and 70 points. Texas is an extreme example. Look at ND last year, or Penn State, or Ohio State, or LSU, etc. all had half their games within 2 scores.

I don't like that deal considering Hudson's big salary in 08 and 09 (13 million) and especially due to his down year. I think if we go after him we should try to do it with a lesser player than murton, which I think would be possibly because it seems that the braves need to cut some payroll. Also why would you put Byrnes of the .322 career obp in the two hole? With his decent power it seems like he would fit best hitting 6th or 7th. If we give up less or get money in return for Hudson that'd be great. Byrnes is there in a platoon, where his lifetime .300/.357/.527/.885 line against LHP goes well with Jones' .295/.343/.493/.837 line against RHP. -

This doesn't belong on the second page. In mildly shocking news, according to the Mizzou release about the game, Mizzou is (I assume tied) for the 4th longest current winning streak in the nation, with 6. plz come soon Saturday. Couple of games tonight, TCU-Utah, and FSU-NC State(ESPN)

I'll give it a whirl. Sign Durham 2/17 (7/8/8 Team option w/2M buyout) Trade Murton and Atkins for Hudson Sign or trade a lower level prospect for Eric Byrnes. Someone like Emil Brown works too if we decide to dump a contract like Dempster or Jones(although in Jones's case then it probably isn't wise to trade Murton) Go after a RF. Options range from J.D. Drew to Trot Nixon to Brad Hawpe to Michael Cuddyer to David Dellucci. Someone worthwhile will be available, and Nixon is a FA. Durham Jones/Byrnes Lee Ramirez RF Barrett Pie Izturis Z, Hudson, Hill, Prior, Marshall/Marmol/Guzman/Mateo Aardsma, Ohman, Dempster, Eyre, Howry, Wuertz(Closer) Soto, Theriot, Byrnes, Pagan, 2 FA's(need to cover 3B, one should be a good LH bat, Branyan? Hinske?) -
Gameday has Casey swinging at a pitchout and flying out to end the inning.

Zambrano is still under team control for at least a year meaning the early part of the contract only has to buy out his arbitration year(s). I guess what I'm trying to say is that the overall value will probably be in the oswalt ballpark, but the first year at least (is '07 Z's last year of arbitration?) could very possibly be in the 8-12 range. Yes, '07 is Z's last year of arbitration. -

True, but moving from a better league to a worse league should mean that stats would remain mostly the same from last year if he were to go to an NL team. The difference in leagues isn't nearly that great. Wells is a good player, he'll likely put up an .800+ OPS for the next few seasons, but isn't likely to consistently approach .900 like he has this year.

Craig Wilson made 3.5 million this year in arbitration. On the open market it'll take more than 4 million to get him to come for a platoon/bench role(if he's willing to take that role). -
Everyone has guys like that, they just don't make it to the major leagues because they get eaten alive by hitters in the high minor leagues.

Every time this comes up I ask this, and I've never had anyone give an answer. Don't the run expectancies include the times when managers sacrifice bunt? Therefore, in order to prove the value/lack thereof with a "runner on 2nd, 1 out" and "runner on 1st, 0 out", wouldn't the second situation have to be modified to eliminate the sacrifice bunts, considering that as it is it includes all the sacrifice bunts that may or may not be useful?

I'll take Theriot over Izturis any day of the week. Izturis is a wizard with the glove. He can't hit a lick though. Theriot is average defensively at 2B. I haven't seen him at SS, but I doubt he has the range to be ML average at that position. I love that he can take a walk, but if he starts struggling at the plate, which is very likely IMO...Izturis is the better option. Izturis hits like Neifi and fields like a god. Personally, I like watching him and pitchers love him. Actually, Theriot is a plus defender at 2B, and came up as a SS, where he would still be at least adequate. -
Because you don't fight with your supervisors, you've never called for a suicide squeeze in Game 7 of the World Series and you're not Lou Piniella.

Link 9th in the AL, and middle of the pack in MLB with the benefit of the DH. I thought you were done? Btw, the Whitesox had the best offense in MLB this year, and where did that get them? I'm done debating whether or not sac bunting is wasteful or not, but when you try to call me a liar, I'm going to prove you wrong. And your second point doesn't make any sense. Did the difference between 9 sacrifice hits(53 in '05, 44 in '06) make the difference this year? What point are you making?

In many situations, it's also called wasteful baseball. Not true at all. No, it's right, but I'm not about to get into it about sac bunts, partially because every managerial prospect is going to be dumb with something like that, whether it be excessive sac bunts and hit & runs, lineup decisions, or decisions about playing time. Get a manager who understands that starting pitchers need not be pitched to failure every time out, that's the most important thing to me.
