  1. In many situations, it's also called wasteful baseball.
  2. Can't the two co-exist. A nice blend of young player and veterans. The Twins have a nice model. The Twins have a superior farm system.
  3. Because Ozzie has an intimate knowledge of who his rivals are considering for the job?
  4. McNabb goes absolutely bonkers and makes Vance the tough luck loser. Tobias gets his first win by thrashing IMB, Raw holds off Burnt in a battle of winless teams, and Roast and O_O stay unbeaten as well. 3 teams at 4-0 now and everyone else at least 2 games back. Big matchup this week with O_O and Roast going at it, too bad for Roast he'll be without Vick and Dunn.
  5. This is fantastic news. I'm not entirely sure that you arent being sarcastic, but assuming you're serious, I agree. I would much rather a manager pull starters too early than too late. And it doesnt seem like the Marlins had an incredibly deep bullpen so I dont know how much stock to put into that argument. No doubt, getting a manager who doesn't abuse starters is the one thing that I care about above anything else in our new manager.
  6. Dusty just set a Cubs hat on fire and threw it into the crowd of reporters. Beats a flaming bag of poo if you're a reporter [insert most predictable Billy Madison joke ever here]
  7. Overspending for mediocre players who become untradeable because of their contracts? But that's not a function of having more money, it's a function of being stupid.

  9. I'm not seeing how it could be bad.
  10. I'm glad that if only 2 of the three are gone, that it's the two that have already gone. At the very least Hendry has shown an ability to change philosophies(although recently he's changed them to more and more krazy ideas), Dusty's not going to stop abusing pitchers and MacPhail hasn't shown any ability to shift focus either.
  11. You think the M's will pony up the money for Daisuke and Schmidt? Honestly, no. But given all the things in their favor in terms of the Japanese players signing with them (and the fact that Schmidt isn't a slam dunk Mariner signing), I think they have to be in the top 2 or 3 (add Baltimore, I guess). That wasn't really a fair question on my part either. I was trying to point out that many people are viewing Daisuke and Schmidt as non-Cubs because of rumors of them going to Seattle, but it's highly unlikely both end up there.

  13. I don't see our offense having too many problems with the TT defense, but I'm interested in seeing how our defense will do. We looked subpar last week, and DB Domonique Johnson is out for the year with a torn ACL. It should be a battle. Mizzou is up to #23 in the AP and #25 in the Coaches Poll. After seeing last night's game, if we can iron out our TO problem, I'd say we're just as good as anyone in the Big XII north. I feel confident we'll beat Mizzou again. I don't think that D can stop Cornish. But I may have just caught Mizzou on a sub-par day defensively. I'll check 'em out this weekend, get a better look hopefully. We'll see how my newfound confidence looks after what should be a tough game against T A&M. Is the game in College Station? You probably won't get many answers on Mizzou's run D by watching Saturday's game. Pat Forde said it best, "Leach is well on his way to a seventh winning season in seven tries by throwing first, last and always." Mizzou's matchup with aTm would probably prove more insightful.
  14. Well, I need 4 McNabb TD's plus some yardage to even it up. At least there's hope playing the Pack.
  15. Yes, debated by all of us, the true experts. That's a ridiculous comment, IMO: the fact that something is being debated means that the debate is warranted? That's interesting logic. I know people who would debate you to the end that the Earth is actually flat. Point is, in terms of production relative to salary, Jones was very good this year. So are you saying that the debate is irrational or isn't warranted? Jones had the second best season of his career, yet he still had a mediocre OBP and couldn't hit LHP to save his life. Is it possible for Jones to put up an OPS 40 points better than his career average(which includes this year) again at 32 and 33? I wouldn't bet on it, and that's the point. When Jones puts up an okay season as likely the best of the contract, then it's not a very good contract at all.
  16. that was the greatest runback I have seen in quite some time. Who cares if there were penalties if it's that entertaining.
  17. Hopefully they would be smart enough to determine that a 7 game series doesn't make one team definitively better than another team. Which would lead to the determination that maybe all the mystique with the playoffs being where the best and clutchiest shine through is all nonsense.
  18. I'm highly skeptical that the posting fee for Matsuzaka will be as high as 20 mil.
  19. I want to hear the talking heads who were trashing the NL this year if an NL team wins it all.
  20. How would you rank the players as far as production for the money this year out of 13 I have listed above? You'd have to wait until those contracts were fulfilled, and evaluate based on the life of the contract.
  21. The fact that Jacque Jones had a career year and it's still being debated whether he's worth the money should tell you all you need to know about the contract.
  22. Dear Bengals run defense, Screw you. Hugs and kisses, TT By my count I'm down by 21, you have Brown and I have McNabb still to go.
