  1. Here's a quick list of some players of note. I'd take his predictions with a grain of salt. You can find career stats for the players listed at japanesebaseball.com. Hm, no Iwamura. Matsuzaka is clearly the top guy out of this crop, but I like what I've read about Kuroda. He might be worth a gander, especially if he can be had for cheap. He is 32, but hey, an innings eater with good stuff is always welcome. Iwamura is the last person listed.
  2. My roommate, who really isn't a statistically oriented guy, just went to town on Lyons's moneyball comment.
  3. I read the whole thing at GRB, and it seemed a bit nit-picky. Sure Bochy probably made some bad decisions, but the conclusion that Bochy was almost as much at fault for losing the series as the pitiful Padre offense I can't agree with.
  4. I really wanted to trade Lee after last season. :? Right now, I don't think the return would be worth it.
  5. Did anyone say it would be easy? I don't think anyone here did. I keep seeing projections with Dempster leaving and we only eat 2-4 mil. That sounds pretty damn easy to me. Can you imagine the heat a GM would take for that deal when Dempster flops again? A guy could get fired for that. Dempster at 3 mil per year for 2 years is hardly an albatross. His K's and walks were almost identical from '05 to '06, and he even gave up fewer line drives this year. There's plenty of reason to believe Dempster won't be terrible again next year. This type of fluctuation is why it was stupid to give him the contract in the first place, but you're really, really overstating how hard it would be to move him, especially when you consider the extra weight GM's give to relievers who "have the ability to close".
  6. just looking at the defensive metrics, as flawed as they are, jones appears to be slightly better. Going by John Dewan's Fielding Bible(this is the part where CardsfaninChitown shows up to back me up on how good it is ), Jones is one of the worst defensive RF's in the game, and Jenkins has been pretty above average in the time he's spent in RF.
  7. Jenkins is much, much better defensively than Jones.
  8. I'd like to hear Razor Shines's name some more. Partially just because it's a really cool name.
  9. Its hard for me to tell too, but thats because I don't see color. Everyone is American to me. I only know I'm white because I can catch a cab and belong to an all white country club. Who's your NFL team then? It can't be the Bears.
  10. I guess so, I really had to look closely at the image results to tell. He's really light complected for an African-American.
  11. Why didn't you list the win against LSU? Florida is more highly rated than Cal, and LSU and Georgia are similarly ranked. The rest are cakewalks, and even then Auburn winning at USC is probably better than winning at home v. Air Force. Honestly, I forgot about LSU. Also, Memphis is probably nearly as good as Air Force, if not better. We have horrible problems with mobile quarterbacks and have for years, that's the main reason we struggled against Carney and the Falcons, and Matt Mauck, and DJ Shockley, etc. Memphis would give USC a run, if not beat them. That leaves Buffalo and Wash St for Auburn and Marshall and Cal for UT. Still an advantage for the Vols. Memphis? 1-4 Memphis? Who lost to Ole Miss, East Carolina, and UAB? Who have yet to beat a 1-A team this year? They're terrible, no way are they better than Air Force, or USC.
  12. I don't see how his slugging is trending downward. Obviously he had a horrendous two month span that caused his lower numbers this year, but the difference between '04 and '05 is made up in the difference in AVG, as evidenced by his IsoP(.303 in '04, .293 in '05) in those years. Is it possible he was or is injured? Dunn for Prior? He played a long stretch of time with a broken hand, I think it was in 2005.

  14. Last week West Virginia had 1395 points in the AP poll. Florida was behind them with 1393, Michigan behind them with 1342. That's a pretty slim margin. This week, WVU has 1416, Michigan 1429, and Florida 1516. Is it worth crying conspiracy for dropping a spot when the team that jumped you is only ahead 13 points? Especially after they beat a better team(Michigan State is the better of the MSUs, and a UM rival no less) more convincingly the previous week, and have a better schedule thus far? UM didn't even jump WVU in the coaches poll.
  15. That game is at Auburn. I look forward to seeing Auburn winning and going right back to #2. The SEC is just that darn good. If Florida loses (please, I'm begging), and an SEC team moves to #2 it better as heck be Tennessee. We are far more proven than any other SEC team. Which seems strange to say after last season, feels good to say it though. :) If Florida were to lose to Auburn, I don't see how Tennessee would be far more proven than Auburn. I guess Tennessee's loss is a "better" loss than Auburn's, but on the other hand Auburn would have beaten the team UT lost to. I'm not saying Auburn would deserve to be ranked ahead of UT, but I don't think anyone could be too upset with either being in front of the other. This is why it's foolish to even have teams outside of the SEC ranked so high. The SEC teams play such a tough out of conference schedule and then beat up on each other I just don't see any other way to say it but to just hand them the title. WV plays at Miss St and wins 42-14 and is called for 13 penalties by the SEC refs and they drop in the polls...yeah, good ole boys just sticking together. 18. Who was that answering the question?
  19. Rocket tell Rudi Johnson to keep it under 400 yards plz
  20. Taking Brooks as my backup QB. Fortunately McNabb has been amazing and I was able to snatch up Carr. Keeping Elam as my starting kicker instead of Wilkins until Denver's bye. It's been a good year so far.
  21. How expensive does it have to be to fly from Arizona to Chicago and back 8 times? Not to mention the cost of tickets and any accomodations.
  22. If we were to get Jenkins, I'd rather move his defense to RF.
  23. My deal costs $101m, Jones and Hudson would blow that out of the water. Going with Hoops's 23 million idea, adding Jones, Hudson, A-Rod, Pavano, and subtracting the money from the Yankees, Jones, Eyre adds about 33M. So we'd need Atlanta to kick in 5 mil, and convince the Trib to go to 105 mil, or some combination of the two to cover it. Not completely unworkable.
  24. Outshined may be the luckiest 5-0 team ever. I think he's 6th in total points.
