  1. That's a good point. I've bandied about the idea of a best movie poll by Genre, but never been motivated to really flesh it out.
  2. The threat of injury doesn't disappear after you've pitched for a couple seasons.
  3. Do you see the Cubs hitting Ichiro anywhere but first? That's beside the point. Just because he's the one that gets the extra at bats doesn't make him more valuable than Carl Crawford, who hits later in the order. How do you figure? 2003-2005 there wasn't any difference, and he was significantly better at Safeco last year. He doesn't hit a lot of long shots, so theoretically speaking he would stand to lose some hits moving to a smaller park. Look at his EAVG over the past four seasons. I don't follow. Did you mean Equivalent Average(EqA), or something else?
  4. VORP doesn't do a very good job of distinguishing between durability and hitting at the top of the order. Yeah, it just measures value. The point is that Ichiro gets more value in VORP for reasons that are simply due to the spot in the order he's in. Which do you think is more likely? He's 33 on Sunday and his game is largely tied into footspeed. Get him out of that park and I think .320-.330 is a very safe bet. 6. 45.5 VORP this season for Ichiro. That ties him for 40th among position players, and he had significantly more PA's than most players. Out of the top 100 position players in VORP, he was around 67th in VORPr. What happens if he only hits .300 next year?
  7. bad start for Carp the best part is I have the tv muted, and didn't think to look up until I heard "oooohhh nooooooo!!" from down the hall
  8. like, say, they are obviously the best 2 teams in the country who shouldn't be penalized for being the same conference? Especially if Michigan is the team that loses the game, I don't see how you can say they are obviously the best 2 teams in the country.
  9. "Anybody can hit singles if that's all they're trying to do, that doesn't impress me." - Gary Sheffield talking about Ichiro I think Ichiro is among the top 5-10 most overrated players in the game.
  10. Obviously that's not what it meant, but it's not what it said either. Say no to Tejada.
  11. Yeah, I think that if you have two teams that face each other in the last week of the season, they both shouldn't be in the NC unless there are some extreme circumstances.
  12. This is likely a case of misperception, but it seems to me that many(not all, but a substantial amount) of Japanese pitchers have had great early success in the major leagues, and then have been unable to maintain that success. My guess, if my perception is right of course, is that it's partially due to pitchers coming across later in their primes, and partially due to MLB hitters being able to adapt to them.
  13. Start a Rothschild thread if you wish. The Tribune updates it's stories throughout the day. The article about Prior getting a 2nd opinion also broke the news that Rothschild -- and O'Neal and the training staff -- all got 2-year extensions. Maybe you shouldn't be amazed "that Rothschild got an extension got little reaction yet Prior getting a freakin' second opinion does" since the story was one and the same -- which you can complain about -- but you're complaining to the wrong audience. We're just picking this stuff up out of the constantly updated articles here. If you want to snipe about it, snipe at the people who are responsible. Newsflash: That ain't us. Also, a lot of people vented their frustration at Rothschild's retention when it was originally speculated during the Piniella hire.
  14. What's Kuroda's stuff like? Does Saito have a really good curve or change?
  15. wow. i thought we had stopped calling players "bums" when farnsworth was traded? or was that headcase? It was gutless choking dog.
  16. Not bad, but seeing as the Marlins probably aren't forgetting what we were willing to give up for Pierre, I think they'd at least want someone like Guzman to make it a trio. imo it's going to take more than willis and eyre. imo, Willis would be enough for the Yankees. Not that I wouldn't throw in Eyre just for a little salary relief. Yeah, the problem with that deal is the Marlins trading Willis for Gallagher + Ryu.
  17. One percent? That's kinda silly unless Carroll has amazingly good sources. We're not even into the offseason. Will Carroll on injuries = very very good Will Carroll on transactions = very very bad
  18. Overrated Overpaid, but a very good hitter.
  19. Everyone hear what happened to Cech? Ouch.
