  1. I'm not sure this is true, and it's the main thing about the Kittredge option decision to me. Can the 2026 payroll fit 2 relievers at Kittredge+ salaries, and even if so is Kittredge the guy you try to keep over Keller(even if Keller requires multiple years)?
  2. Is it really too much to ask for a team to have one (1) victory in order to be proactively ranked as one of the best teams in the country in Week 3
  3. Do you think all the other contenders with similar or worse records in that span are getting encouraging performance from their key players
  4. Santos was 8 of 9 on 50+ yarders last year, the league as a whole was under 70%.
  5. MLB.tv will still be a thing, but you will likely buy it and watch games through the ESPN app. Not a lot of details at the moment.
  6. Ozzie Albies you will share a cell with Eugenio Suarez in the Hague
  7. It appears to use FPI. I'm not sure I see a huge issue though, the only real outlier seems like the USC game. Other than that it seems to have them as pretty heavy favorites in home games, underdogs against good teams away and coinflips or better against poor away teams. Oh and naturally heavy underdogs to OSU.
  8. AFAIK it is still studio stuff, I saw him doing that when they were playing the Brewers within the last couple weeks.
  9. I imagine this is an issue that could be overcome, but Grace does have a job on DBacks broadcasts. AFAIK no one else in those photos is currently working through the season.
  10. I think he's been hanging out in Chicago if they pulled the trigger on the Tucker IL stint
  11. Maybe in 2025 we can be a little more curious than claiming an IP number is an injury harbinger like it's an ironclad rule of the universe. For example, Horton has pitched on 4 days rest in only 7 of his 20 starts. In only 2 of those 7 did he throw more than 80 pitches, and he has thrown more than 90 pitches just 4 times in total(0 times since the All-Star break). Injury risk increases with fatigue, that's why people use innings as a crude barometer and why pitch counts get highlighted. The Cubs are almost certainly looking at more detailed markers than that, but it's very clear even using those simplified markers that they're being very careful to avoid Horton hitting the point of fatigue in order to manage the injury risk. Also for a quick comparison: in 2003 Mark Prior made 17 of his 30 starts on 4 days rest, threw less than 95 pitches once, and threw more than 110 pitches 19 times(regular season only).
  12. Yeah I was looking at this yesterday, of the 6 playoff teams, the Brewers and Mets are a few games better than .500, the Cubs, Padres, and Phillies are within a game or so of .500, and the Dodgers IIRC were the worst but just barely. It's not particularly meaningful, especially when you consider how variable pitching matchups might be in those handful of games.
  13. xFIP is normalizing his HR rate, which is very low. Similarly, Skenes has the lowest HR/FB in the league and by extension his xFIP is 60 points higher than his FIP
  14. Horton struck out Albies, give him a lifetime contract
  15. okay one more https://web.archive.org/web/20110912235031/http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/archive/dugout2-11-06.htm

  17. Wait, the wayback machine still has it! https://web.archive.org/web/20120504172336/http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/archive/
  18. I've spent a few mins looking every now and then and came up empty. At one point Progressive Boink was under SBNation but not sure if that move memory-holed the older stuff
  19. The answer to “Could there possibly be a statistical outlier after 5 months of baseball games” is unequivocally yes, what are we doing here
  20. Also there was one out and a runner on when this happened, the next 2 players after this call hit singles, and the Brewers went down scoreless in their half. Saying this call cost Milwaukee the game is requiring some real butterfly effect logical leaps.
  21. thinking of this post again: https://channel-6.ghost.io/bitch-you-have-a-boat/
  22. Cubs wRC+ by month: Mar/Apr: 122 May: 115 Jun: 106 Jul: 114 Aug: 88 Their median month is a 114 wRC+, which is roughly the 2nd best offense in baseball. Their 2nd worst month by wRC+ would be a top 10 offense for the season, maybe Top 5 after including their elite baserunning.
  23. The Cubs had 2 healthy and productive catchers on the roster for the week that he was with the team, he was brought up to be an extra bat and served that purpose for a few days. Ballesteros may not have what it takes to be an MLB catcher, an unflattering game photo doesn't really indicate anything one way or another.
  24. this guy is one of the best catchers in baseball
