  1. If there's one thing the front office has shown a repeated ability to do, it's find solid starting pitching that isn't at the top of the market. So in that sense, I'm not terribly worried about a hole in the rotation. I do think there's the potential for a lack of quality at the top if Lester continues to decline and Quintana doesn't bounce back to his previous self, especially since without peak Lester and Arrieta you've got guys without terrific stuff headlining the rotation.
  2. That is not where the Knights play anymore, mostly because it's 30 minutes outside Charlotte.
  3. Chris Archer gave up back to back home runs to begin his start tonight and then left with the trainer. His velocity on those two batters was down. Also, Marcus Stroman might have gotten Prior/Hawpe'd by Trumbo. [tweet] [/tweet]
  4. Last year we carried 14 position players, which should mean that only 1 of La Stella, Martin, and Rivera don't make it. Could see him being included.
  5. just noticed that Zobrist wears New Balance cleats, which is perfectly on brand for him
  6. Mizzou trails FCS Missouri State 35-34. There are 5 and a half minutes remaining in the first half. EDIT: 41-35 now, 5 mins to play in the first half
  7. Miles just tweeted that Martin is here today and the 40 man move hasn't been announced yet.
  8. Coming back to this, assuming Panama doesn't get any points later in Azteca, you have: USA 8 pts +1 GD Honduras 8 pts -6 GD Panama 7 pts -1 GD With these schedules: USA: @Hon, v.Pan, @T&T Hon: v.USA, @CR, v.Mex Pan: v.T&T, @USA, v.CR A tie and a win for the US would not only put them at 11 points, but make it extremely difficult for them to be caught since Panama would likely be on 10 points and Honduras 9 entering the final game day where the US has by far the best matchup. 4 points from the next 2 games isn't a given, but Honduras hasn't exactly defended their home field well, and there's other uncertainties like Panama taking 3 from T&T(they haven't won at home in the hex).
  9. now i'm curious as to what the worst season has been by a guy with a very high OBP in a significant amount of plate appearances. i bet jose offerman is up there somewhere. i wish i could tag TT in this post since there's just about no chance he comes in here on his own http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2017&month=0&season1=2000&ind=1&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=54689&players=0&sort=22,a
  10. honest question, is Cameron drunk
  11. 30 minutes in and the ref has already missed: - An obvious yellow on Guzman for hacking Nagbe (Guzman later got another deserved yellow on Pulisic) - An obvious PK(and card) when Waston crushed Altidore from behind on the break - An obvious handball on the key pass leading to Costa Rica's goal Good stuff.
  12. is that all? seriously tho, let's go horsefeathers 21-7 against these horsefeathers ass teams and get to 95. just out of curiosity, what was the ridiculous run the 2015 team went on over the past few weeks to actually get to 97? i remember it being pretty ridiculous (and i'm too busy righ tnow to do more than ask about it here) The 2015 Cubs won 8 in a row to end the season, closing a 45-18 stretch going back to late July. They went 19-9 in both August and September and 4-0 in October.
  13. I would think Rosario is a guarantee, and Frankoff is a very good bet. After that I could see the logic for any number of guys as the 3rd.
  14. I'm not going to hold it against the city for actually holding the privately held enterprise to its agreeements. Yeah, the time to be mad at the city is back when these arguments were ongoing. At this point, the city sounds like they were actually pretty horsefeathering reasonable in this particular situation. The city re-stating their reasons for not having Friday Night games, and people pointing out they are nonsense and therefore not some sacrifice being made, is also pretty reasonable.
  15. Martin makes 4.85 million this year and is Arb 3 next year. Kinda odd, he is a good defender in CF and left handed, but the bat has been so bad that it's difficult to see him as anything but a pinch runner/defensive replacement down the stretch. Is there room on a playoff roster for that guy when Happ, Jay, and Almora all exist?
  16. I eagerly await the rationale behind the Brewers being upset a Friday day game is moved to be a night game. I'm sure it will be reasoned and nuanced and not at all like the ridiculous mewling they did about the rainout earlier this year.
  17. Nicasio lasted all of 1 team, the Phillies claimed him. I'm not sure if he's technically eligible to be traded by them today, I think so and I have to think that would be the primary motivation on Philly's part.
  18. Hannemann OPS by level: Low A: .698 High A: .685 AA: .679 AAA: .735 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  19. i just figure if you can do it now, might as well. having to figure out who to bump in the playoffs, if there's reason to actually have a debate over that, would be a good problem to have imo. quintana could keep sucking. lester could keep sucking. someone could get hurt. I'm not even saying 'no, don't do it', because it's not like the assets they'd give up would change in value or be needed between now and the offseason. But it is pretty odd timing for the Cubs to have renewed vigor in pursuing him, right as Lester is getting confirmed healthy(if not yet MLB productive) and Arrieta/Hendricks pitching to 2016 form.
