  1. remember he's the one lefty that hurt Chapman last year although he was probably hitting more often than once every 12 days last year
  2. I probably would've let Montgomery pitch and only gone to Edwards if there's trouble, but I guess if I rant and rave about not using a closer(when available) in situations like this I can't complain too much. Especially if Montgomery wasn't truly available to go 2 strong.
  3. With no Koji or Rondon for big chunks of the month and Wilson looking terrible, they've had to expand his role beyond what is ideal for him.
  4. also, low-key smart thing Joe did today, stacking consecutive lefties that he won't care about pinch hitting for. Woodruff has extreme splits in his short MLB time, but he seems like a decent candidate to get knocked out before the 6th too, so Contreras, Happ, and Almora can be ready to counter any LHRP they insert for 5-7 in the lineup
  5. The Jay thing cracks me up. I get the outrage in most cases, but it never fails that when everyone hates his presence he gets on base at least twice and/or comes up with some huge RBI. He appears to be powered by fan spite.
  6. That wasn't even an attempt to say 'see it's not so bad', it was more like the paragraph version of this:
  7. There are 7 teams within 6 games of the second AL wild card, so nearly half the AL. None of those teams have a winning record in their last 10 games. #pennantfever
  8. I didn't see every hitter he faced, but this was really disappointing because in the last several weeks he seemed to be back to being very hard to hit and simply walking a few too many guys, and then he comes in and gives up 3 hits. Last night he continued to throw strikes, and Santana hits a 96 mph fastball that's out of the zone up for a double, and Thames takes a cutter/slider on the outside corner and rolls it into right field. I'm not necessarily saying he was unlucky, but man those two pitches in particular looked like exactly what you'd hope and that's how he gave up the lead. Frustrating.
  9. Now hitting .254/.341/.580 in 205 PA since his stint in AAA.
  10. so Rizzo is out and Pina is definitely blocking the plate, right
  11. JOE THE GAME IS OVER IF THEY SCORE THE TOP OF THE ORDER IS UP USE WADE DAVIS, NOT THE GUY YOU WOULDN'T WANT PITCHING BEFORE THE 7TH
  12. I'd say it was before that. Like when he brought CJE in to follow Jake. Should have saved that bullet Edwards was brought in because the heart of the order was up, it was very smart to use him in the 6th and Duensing in the 7th.
  13. They need three pitchers, at least one reliever and at least one starter, Montgomery/Wilson can be serviceable fill ins for whichever group only gets one. How you fill in those 3 slots has any number of different permutations depending on the people that fill them. Best case is they win the Otani lottery, then they can do something like pay for a back end starter and pay/trade for an elite reliever. Otani/Q/Hendricks/Lester/FA with a (Davis/Britton/etc)/Strop/Edwards/Wilson/Montgomery pen is dynamite. More likely scenario has a lot more gray area in terms of the available options and their costs.
  14. the weird thing is that it has completely collapsed since the trade. He wasn't good by any means before, but he at least caught some guys in Oakland(39/46 SB in 312 IP). Since he joined the Brewers runners are 22/22 in 194 IP. Too bad this lineup isn't exactly tailor made to run, but with that type of liability at the plate you could see any number of guys try in the right situation. Davies has had extremely few attempts though(1 SBA every 20 innings, 22% CS%), so I wonder if he's great at keeping guys close.
  15. Some thoughts require swift and immediate repudiation, even if someone else had already said the exact same thing
