  1. They need three pitchers, at least one reliever and at least one starter, Montgomery/Wilson can be serviceable fill ins for whichever group only gets one. How you fill in those 3 slots has any number of different permutations depending on the people that fill them. Best case is they win the Otani lottery, then they can do something like pay for a back end starter and pay/trade for an elite reliever. Otani/Q/Hendricks/Lester/FA with a (Davis/Britton/etc)/Strop/Edwards/Wilson/Montgomery pen is dynamite. More likely scenario has a lot more gray area in terms of the available options and their costs.
  2. the weird thing is that it has completely collapsed since the trade. He wasn't good by any means before, but he at least caught some guys in Oakland(39/46 SB in 312 IP). Since he joined the Brewers runners are 22/22 in 194 IP. Too bad this lineup isn't exactly tailor made to run, but with that type of liability at the plate you could see any number of guys try in the right situation. Davies has had extremely few attempts though(1 SBA every 20 innings, 22% CS%), so I wonder if he's great at keeping guys close.
  3. Some thoughts require swift and immediate repudiation, even if someone else had already said the exact same thing
  4. The Pirates have scored 3 runs in an inning for the first time since they got to face Dillon Maples 15 games ago.
  5. I think the Rockies are a better constructed team and deserve a playoff berth more. Also, 'besides spite' is like the sports version of 'aside from that how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?'
  6. Indicators are that any non-tender shenanigans would be seen as circumventing the rules and MLB would hammer that team.
  7. Bryant hasn't had a game day off since 8/23, and lefties fare much better against Archer so that mitigates the impact.
  8. I put together a quick calculator that focuses on how many wins each team might get from remaining series: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YtIEXZBZ-Sx_w8chE745mhb3ehzTwOapxR3y82nrdak/edit?usp=sharing https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YtIEXZBZ-Sx_w8chE745mhb3ehzTwOapxR3y82nrdak/edit?usp=sharing The yellow cells are editable so you can put in your greatest hopes/fears. If the Cubs split the next 3 series and win 2 of 3 v. CIN, Milwaukee needs to win out(aside from the Cubs split) to tie for the division.
  9. welcome back to the rotation Montgomery, please go beat Chris Archer thanks
  10. why did we nearly forfeit a game starting Tseng if Montgomery doesn't get an opportunity in an inning like this
  11. Duensing, Montgomery and *shudders* Wilson are going to be responsible for closing this out I would not be at all surprised to see Davis in the 9th, unless I missed a proclamation that he is absolutely out today.
  12. I have infrequently seen that myself, if you refresh or hard refresh(CMD+Shift+R on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+F5 on Windows) the image sometimes shows up. I use uBlock and Privacy Badger and I assume they're the ultimate culprit haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what causes it.
  13. Let's update this guy again. 2015 ERA thru 3 starts: 5.74 ERA after: 3.78 2016 ERA thru 3 starts: 4.50 ERA after: 1.88 2017 ERA thru 3 starts: 6.19 ERA after: 2.79
  14. is that the farthest home run he's ever hit? That's out there in Bryant/Baez land.
  15. It's only slowing down during games, specifically right after big events (good and bad). Edit: for comparison, right now there are less than 30 people on the site, compared with 60-75 during the game. In last year's playoffs we were 150-200 with regularity.
  16. Of available guys, they were down to Davis, Zastryzny, and Pena. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see Davis tomorrow, pending how many pitches he finishes with today.
  17. I've yet to see a replay showing Contreras doing anything resembling melting down until after he was already ejected. Just getting ejected is a problem. It is a big problem whose fault lies exclusively with the umpire. He handled that horrific call as best he could up until the quick hook on Contreras. Lackey was never going to shut up, toss him. But you make a call that egregious and influential you can't be that itchy on the trigger finger when Willy isn't even in his face.
  18. Agreed. But then it rubbed off on Willy in this case, and that loss in a tight game is especially bad. That, and the "melting down" look isn't a great look ever. I've yet to see a replay showing Contreras doing anything resembling melting down until after he was already ejected.
  19. Why did all the replays focus on Lackey's yelling, I don't care about that, Contreras getting tossed is more egregious and impactful.
