  1. My feeble attempt at a 4-way: Cubs get: Manny Cubs give up: Hill, Mitre, Williams, Hollandsworth RSox get: Soriano, Burnett, Hollandsworth RSox give up: MRamirez, HRamirez, Lester Florida gets: Jerome Williams, Hanley Ramirez, Jon Lester Fla gives up: Mota, Burnett Texas gets: Mitre, Mota, Hill, TX gives up: Soriano My only question is what do the Cubs do about our rotation then? Rusch and...? I'd rather hold on to Jerome too, I just figured it'd be easier to sub out Mitre/Hill in Raw's deal. Yeah, sub out Hill or Mitre with Nolasco or Pinto makes it much easier. Personally Id try to hang onto Jerome, and after him Hill. If that's possible then where do I sign?
  2. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a situation where someone was banned just for having an opposing opinion.

  4. If I honestly think what? That Hollandsworth is a PH that Boston would want, or that the team would be better if he weren't on it? If it's the latter, here's my line of reasoning: Currently, Hollandsworth is not being used in the manner he's best in. He's a very good PH. He's not an everyday OF. If Dusty keeps using him everyday, we'll suffer as a team. It's not so much a comment on Todd's skills as a comment on Dusty's habits. Now, if we trade for Manny (doubtful), Boston might want a 4th OF. A LH bat of the bench with experience for the stretch run. That's not Gerut. So, if Hollandsowrth helps us get Manny (doubtful), he's certainly worth parting with. Either way, Holla not on the team helps the team. Dusty will continue to run him out there without a more...veteran obvious solution, so if he weren't on the roster as currently constructed, Murton would play everyday, and at the least he makes contact and can take a walk. If we can trade for Manny (doubtful) and Holla helps seal the deal, he also helps us by not being there. I agree with your sentiment, but if they deal Manny, don't they need a 3rd OF?
  5. They're dead on with their assessment of Ron, but I think they underrate Hughes.
  6. Hmmm, I'm going to have to come up with a 3 way Manny deal.
  7. That was me relaying the Will Carroll rumor. Here's the update on it: "The Alfonso Soriano rumors are still swirling and a few sharks are starting to nibble around the edges. The Twins are rumored to be looking despite this being completely opposite the type of deal they've ever done. The Mets are still the likely location but as the Rangers solidify themselves as a seller, they're likely to get more creative offers."
  8. It's someone pretending to be Hoops. It's a hoax.
  9. Making the team better IMO is something that can last for more than one year. Burnitz has this year and maybe next year to excell and IMO he's a Gietti (sp) waiting to happen. I think if the Cubs get a solid offer (very good 22-25 year old player) or in a package for a Manny Ramirez type hitter it would make them a better team now AND in the future. I can't imagine Theo Epstein doing a deal to get rid of ManRam and replacing him with Burnitz unless the Cubs threw in other stuff to make the Red Sox better this year, including Walker, possibly Williams, and Dempster. The Sox want to win now, and going from Ramirez to Burnitz is not the way to do that. I'm almost positive someone else suggested this, but what if the Reds get involved: Cubs get: Manny, David Weathers + $10M Sox get: Dunn and Mercker Reds get: Hanley Ramirez, Shoppach, Leicester, Hill and Mitre. I think that's reasonably fair I say that if the Cubs sent Gerut to Boston, and we got salary relief past this year, that would be a pretty good deal.
  10. Also relating to Texas baseball, via Will Carroll, A Dallas radio station is saying that the Rangers are close to sending Soriano to the Mets for Cameron and Milledge.
  11. Dusty Baker is not going to be fired. The Cubs would have to pay him 4 million dollars to go fishing. This isn't Cincy, that's not going to happen. I wouldn't say it's impossible for Dusty to get fired, but something would have to change for the worse for it to happen.
  12. I touched on this in the poll about our LF situation, but I really think that Gerut should be out there against RHP. Here's his career line against right handers: .290/.355/.492/.847. Add in above average defense, the name Jody, and I don't know what else you could want in a platoon situation! So who's on board?
  13. Exactly and the first two batters in the 7th were left-handed. Lefty One Out GuY Ohman trying to go 1 and 2/3 innings probably isn't a great idea. Do you really take that term literally? LOOGY is basically another term for a situational lefty. If there are two lefties coming up back to back, that doesn't mean he can only face one of them for One Out. He's pretty effective at getting lefties out, they're hitting .213/.280/.340 against him. By the way why can't he work 1.2 IP? He's worked 1 and 2/3 six times this year. In those he's given up a total of 2 hits, and 3 walks. That's 5 base runners and 0 runs in a total of 10 innings when asked to go 1.2. But yeah, he probably can't work 1 and 2/3 innings. Huh, didn't realize that he had had that many long outings. You were right.

  15. IMB! called out the double switch from the moment it happened. Yes he did. And you will note that he was not among the ones continually harping on it after it didn't work out. Others that were silent before, however . . . Actually he did, in baseball discussions.
  16. That would be quite the coincidence, since he had just hit and the pitcher's spot was due up.
  17. IMB! called out the double switch from the moment it happened.
  18. No, it was a great drag bunt, took a nice play to get him at first.
  19. It was for the pitcher. Gerut replaced Murton in the 6th.
  20. It's a brand of doll. There's a special place for it downtown, where you can have lunch with your doll, and other such nonsense. And I know this because I have 3 younger sisters, weirdos.
  21. Not to interrupt the former D'Backs lovefest, but this is a kinda big situation...
  22. Figures Gerut finally gets a hit off the lefty.
