  1. Gerut is a better hitter against RH than Hollandsworth. He wasn't hurt as far as I know.
  2. That's the smart move. Gerut is a better hitter against RH than Hollandsworth. To be honest, with Gerut and Murton on the roster, there's no reason for Hollandsworth to get any more than a spot start in CF. I haven't looked at the numbers but my guess is that Holly is the better hitter in PH situations than Gerut is. Gerut should have already been in the game in CF anyway instead of our Panamanian service station employee. Gerut only has 10 PH ABs in his career. I'd consider their overall numbers v. RH more important than PH numbers given their instability and small sample.

  4. Ditto. When a man making a few million cannot perform his job at a satisfactory level and I am one of millions paying his salary by buying tickets, jerseys, etc., I have every right in the world to show my displeasure in him. Do you boo if you go to a broadway show and are displeased? The whole idea of booing is selfish and dumb. Does anyone think that LaTroy thought "Hey, we lost, but I wasn't bad. Oh wait, the fans are booing, I must've done something wrong." Players know when they screw up, they don't need tens of thousands of their own fans reminding him. Although the booing did help the Cubs run him out of town and get 2 pretty good prospects in return, so it did serve it's purpose. I personally have a hard time booing a player on a team I root for, cuz if he does good, I feel like a total hypocrite if I then cheer that player when he succeeds. So I have never booed a player. I take that back. I did boo Todd Hundley, but then again who didn't. However, I also don't have a problem with people who do boo, cuz they did pay for their ticket and they do live in a relatively free society. Allowing fans to dictate what players stay or go is a very dangerous precedent.

  6. I'm pretty sure the formula THT uses for RC is more complex than OBP*TB.
  7. Cedeno was on the big league roster from April 21-May 17.
  8. We under appreciate Neifi. He's a career sub who has filled in admirably. Let's not have short memories, Neifi and DLee were carrying the offense when Aramis and Corey were automatic outs early in the season. Without going into the same debate again, I'll have to strongly disagree. Neifi did well in April, but he's regressed to his career numbers, which I don't want on the roster at all. Nonsense. Since May 1: .241/.261/.337/.598 Who's been worse? Cory Patterson for one. Nope, actually 50 points better in OPS, but he's been deemed not good enough to be on a major league roster at that level of production. Yet Neifi has praise heaped upon him for being worse since his hot start. I should have clarified though, I was referring to infielders when I asked who was worse, since you claimed he was the best reserve. This is a prime example of why I'm glad the Cubs look at more than just selective stats. I guess you just ignore defense, but hey that's ok. Your're entitled to your opinion, I just disagree. CPat is where he belongs BTW. Selective stats? That covers the entire offensive scope of the game. Sure Neifi is above average as a defender, but he's not significantly better than others that makes up for his inability to hit, and certainly not enough to be considered the best infield reserve in baseball. Can you find someone who is worse, offensively, defensively, or otherwise?

  12. The what? Explain please.. I havent been a fan for very long.. Haha, I believe it was Angel Hernandez (sp) who was practically screwing the Cubs out of the game with really bad calls. Then the ex-NFL/Bear DT Steve Mongo (You might recall seeing him on WCW) came into the booth to do the 7th inning stretch, and he just literally talked smack to Hernandez, and Hernandez was facing Mongo and both of them had some type of a stare-down before Mongo went to sing. Didn't Hernandez eject him?
  13. I read on CBS sportsline that the White Sox are trying to get Huff. It looks like he's going on his typical second half terror. His power is back this month after being gone when he was ineffective/injured earlier. I wouldn't complain if the Cubs snagged him now, I was beginning to have doubts.
  14. I figure this would do fine as Game 1, you can change the title to reflect the time change and change in starters(if any).
  15. Neifi went 17 for 117 earlier this season, and Dusty said he was unlucky. I shudder to think what it would take for Dusty to realize Neifi isn't good at the plate.
  16. So we should keep him because of one good outing? In just under 30 innings Remmy has a 1.10 WHIP, and is striking out around 7.5 batters per 9 innings. I say keep him unless you have 6 relievers better than him, which we don't right now. He might be OK if Dusty used him correctly, but he continues to use him as a LOOGY which he doesn't succeed in. We already have Ohman who can handle the LOGGY role, as evidenced by his .213 BAA against lefties. Remlinger has 29 IP this year, 20 against RH, 9 against LH. Link I'm not saying Remmy's awesome, but we could do worse right now. Like I said before, unless he's the worst reliever out there(he's not right now), I say we hold onto him.
  17. How about........anybody? Baker almost never PH's with the catcher because of this. Keeping someone who isn't a catcher because he has a shred of ability to fill in for an inning or two once or twice a year is ridiculous.

  19. The Cubs offense needs a 6th hitter, with a good slugging %, and if Nomar comes back then they have a #2 hitter. One last thing about Walker there's probably a good reason why he's paid $2.5 million. Maybe Bill James would give him $5 million, but I don't see anyone hiring him to be gm. They can't because he's too busy helping Theo Epstein on the World Champion Red Sox.
  20. Why doesn't he just start Gerut against RH? Better defense, better splits against RH, it doesn't make sense.
