  1. Increased awareness?
  2. NO Really? That's not that horrible a deal now that I think about it. I didn't think so, either, but after a moment of consideration... If you, as I do, think that our Ramirez is at or nearing the caliber of hitter that their Ramirez is, then essentially you end up trading about 10 million a year for Kevin Youkilis in that deal. That's...not so appealing. I have my doubts about Aramis being able to take enough walks to approach Manny's level of production. But, after thinking some more, the age difference between the Ramirez's probably would dissuade me against that deal.

  4. I wouldn't have any problem with that. The only thing I'd worry about is Affeldt is similar to Remmy in that he gets out righties better than lefties. We all know the problems that Dusty seems to have in understanding this phenomenon. I'm not a huge Affeldt fan. He's 26, which gives him some time, but he's getting rocked away from pitcher friendly Kaufmann this year. Last year he had a .300+ BAA too. Is Kaufman really pitcher friendly? It was Coors East until they moved the fences back in for the start of 2004. That slowed the run scoring, but is it all the way to 'pitcher friendly' as opposed to nuetral now? Affeldt did very well for KC in 2003 too. I wouldn't object to Affeldt at all. Experience, talent, potential - could turn out to be very good if he stays healthy. Really good stuff. In 2004, Kaufmann was the 5th most pitcher friendly park in baseball This year, it's 8th most pitcher friendly. Now that I look at it, Affeldt has been reasonably effective since coming off the DL: 15 IP, 1.80 ERA, 1.53 WHIP(not good), and 9 K/9. I'm not completely against the idea, but I'm not positive he'll be an upgrade, and I fear what we'd give up to get him.
  5. I noticed that too, but we already gave up Dubois for someone with the same skillset.
  6. Tucker never touched the ball, so he never technically "misplayed" it. At least that's my understanding of the rule.
  7. They have a huge fan base, that's why they get the media attention. They are the dominant base in one of the biggest cities in the US, and they have a national TV audience for half their games. It's a simple matter of coverage in proportion to the people who care about that coverage.
  8. I'm thinking its an insult. Basically saying that Hoops doesn't have any idea what he is talking about and just throws a bunch of names out there. Stop me if that isn't what you meant, guned. I was hoping that wasn't the case. Good thing that's entirely false.
  9. He might think that nobody noticed or cared? And what does he learn from having fans boo him? Associating actions with consequences is a form of learning. He learns by hearing the boos that his actions were not enjoyed by the spectators. Without booing, he does not make that association. Hearing no boos leads to assumptions that actions will be tolerated and chances are those actions will be repeated. A similar association can be made that you feel I am selfish and dumb because I do not find a problem with expressing my displeasure. To each his own... Like I said before, I don't think any professional baseball player needs boos to realize that they did something wrong. I don't think any professional baseball player says to himself "I blew a save today, but I didn't get booed, so I guess it doesn't matter if I do it again tomorrow. I would appreciate it if you did not put words into my mouth. I simply answered your question as to how that was considered a form of learning. Put words in your mouth? You said(referring to LaTroy) that the boos help him learn, and then outlined the learning process. Player does bad, fan boos, player learns that he does bad, because otherwise "he does not make the association". What part of that connection is not true?

  11. Hmmm, didn't know about him not playing.
  12. .281/.293/.348/.642 That's why people hate Macias.
  13. Unless Bill Hall really tanked the last couple weeks, he's been better than all those guys this year.

  15. I'm sitting behind my desk and wasn't able to watch the game today. Describe the hit he had today that drove in the tying run, por favor. Routine fly ball to medium deep RF, Tucker lost it in the sun, stepped back, and it bounced in front of him. Lee would've scored easily had it been caught.

  17. Wouldn't matter. Neifi replaced Ramirez in the 8th. Whoops. Watch Burnitz walk and have Neifi's awful approach work again. Bases loaded is the only time his hack away style is effective.
  18. For the hundredth time, this is why Ramirez should hit fourth.
  19. How could he? Murton and Barrett had already replaced their counterparts, the 9 spot hadn't come up yet. maybe hairston/gerut to cf, macias to 3rd, neifi to ss, dempster in ramirez or cedenos spot. would that work? just seems odd, cause now he'll have to pinch hit and lose his best reliever if we don't win in the ninth. I doubt Dempster's good for more than one inning anyway. He's thrown 3 days in a row before last night, and that's a lot of adjustments just for that.

  21. You know JGalt, maybe you were on to something with that luck thing...
  22. C'mon Felipe, I know you can work 6 pitchers in this inning!
  23. I'm one of Neifi's harshest critics, but he hasn't played today.
