  1. I want it to happen, you want it to happen, but we all know that it won't happen. The organization seems to like the guy as a 25th man. Yeah, the guy hitting .283 off the bench is just killing this team. If Macias was used like a 25th man should be it wouldn't be a problem. He comes into games way too soon. It probably only seems that way. At 92 AB's through 103 games it would be hard to play him much less. Everyone says Cedeno is rotting on the bench but he has 50 AB's. I don't know what his total games have been on the active roster but I would think that his AB's as a percentage of games he has been on the team are higher than Macias. Not sure about that - someone would need to check the numbers. Macias has 99 PA's in 103 games. Cedeno has 53 PA's in 54 games. The percentage is just about the same.
  2. Actually, in this lineup I think Murton fits in well in front of the pitcher. Murton is more likely than Perez to turn over the lineup by getting on base thus allowing the pitcher to hit or sacrifice. Another benefit of Neifi batting 7th is if he can get on base Matt can potentially drive him in. Conversely, Neifi has the lowest OBP of all the regulars so there is a greater chance that the pitcher will leadoff more often. All things being equal, you don't want Neifi batting 8th. I've heard these theories before and I don't buy any of them. The advantages of dumping someone like Neifi in the 8 hole easily outweigh the disadvantages IMO. There is a big advantage to turning over the lineup and allowing our 3,4,5 hitters more opportunities to bat. Considering Neifi's sub 300 OBP there is an outstanding chance that the pitcher will always leadoff. Additionally, it's more advantageous to keep our pitchers off the base paths even though most of them are decent hitters. I contend that its better to have the pitcher come up in a sacrifice situation... If you want to turn the lineup over more, then Murton should be hitting where he can get more PA's than Neifi. I don't buy the idea of keeping the pitcher off the basepaths. You're much more likely to waste runners that are on in the 7 hole by hitting Neifi than by hitting him 8th. Straight forward, you'll score more runs on the whole with Murton hitting in front of Neifi.

He's the worst hitter in the lineup. There's a much higher chance of Neifi stranding runners, which is more important than turning the lineup over, or getting on base for the 8 hitter. If Murton hits 7th, he's going to get more runners to drive in than in the 8 spot. Again, he's the worst hitter in the lineup(by far), he should be hitting in the lowest spot. The 7th slot is not considered an RBI position. That still doesn't explain why we should put an inferior hitter in that spot.

  5. What in the world does BTAIM stand for? Be That As It May, according to Google.
  6. I don't see how Reyes and Wainright is that much better than Hill and Mitre. Reyes and Hill are a tossup IMO, but Wainwright is much better than Mitre I think even with his arm problems. I'm curious to see why you think Wainwright is much better than Mitre. Mitre has had more success at the same level and age, and has been injury free.

  8. The Cards have 2 or 3 very good pitching prospects that were much more highly regarded than Hill. Wainright is the only name that comes to mind but Jocketty has shown he's not afraid to trade prospects for splash deals. See Haren, Dan & Isringhausen, Jason Reyes and Wainright. After that...they're one of the worst systems in the game.
  9. It would be nice if Murton got to hit higher than Neifi in the lineup.
  10. Well cancel out Shoppach and add Bigbie. Do they even have a place for him to play? I'd guess this definitely means Huff is gone for sure now. Bigbie's gonna be getting some sweet frequent flier miles this weekend. Whose reporting this by the way? Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus. He says its Bigbie for Adam Stern and Shoppach. He was going off a newspaper report that said it wasn't final though. His article (which is premium content on BP) includes no such disclaimer and describes the deal in the past tense. Yeah, he edited it from the original post. This is the report that it originated from. Also, for those who want to know, there's no such thing as premium content on BP until August 3.

  12. Yes, but he's been great in July of this year, so maybe he bucks the trend this year.
  13. If we trade Walker, Mitre, and Welly for Soriano, I'm going to throw something.
  14. He's probably finding the cure for cancer or working for NASA if he's no longer in the minor leagues.
  15. To each their own. I have no problem with the scoreboard, and would not if someone here posted something similar about the Sox. However, I do see a lot of signatures regarding all Sox fans as trash, drunks, etc. That sort of thing is just silly to me. A lot? I can recall one, that's a quote insinuating about Sox fans.
  16. On balance, now. Put it this way. There is as much dislike for the Cubs there as there is for the Sox here. Neither has an "obsession". Obviously there are plenty of barbs towards some of our... lets say... more tatooed fans. SoxTalk does have an obsession, if you can wade through the posts of people who just like to see swear words on their screen for the sake of seeing swear words on their screen. Like I said before, compare WSI to NSBB. See how many icons, sigs, avatars, usernames, and threads are devoted to being against the other team. It's not even close.
  17. Stealing bandwidth J.R.? How could you? :lmao:
  18. Sisco is gone forever.
  19. Thanks for fielding our questions Andy. Having pitched in the Red Sox organization, can you outline the differences between them and the Cubs philosophically(i.e throwing programs, off day routines, etc.)?
  20. Thanks for taking the time Aaron, and congratulations on your first half success and promotions. How many positions do you play in the infield? How many positions overall do you think you could play at a Major League caliber? Thanks again and good luck in the second half.
  21. I can't figure out for the life of me why people are pursuing Larry Bigbie.
  22. According to Will Carroll, Lawton was targeted, but the Pirates asked for too much and the Cubs moved on to Gerut. I wouldn't mind him. I think Burnett will be overvalued, I'm not a huge fan of his.
  23. Good for him. He's at .259/.354/.481 in 27 ABs as an Indian.
  24. Yeah, Ken Rosenthal's column on Yahoo! is saying the same thing. Surprised not to hear the Cubs mentioned. Rosenthal is a hack. Even if he weren't wrong almost every time he reports something like this, it doesn't make any sense. How are the Blue Jays going to take on Manny's salary, and why would Boston trade in the division? Florida is worried about not being able to afford Burnett, and they're trying to dump Lowell, but they can take on a 20 million a year guy?
  25. Reminder: Make sure to get an entry in before the actual trading deadline. Remember, the winner receives a signed Sean Gallagher ball!
