  1. Two things. 1. You missed it. Beane and JP were criticized for those signings. 2. This is a Cubs board. Doesn't it make sense that more people will criticize Hendry's moves than an American League general manager's moves? Maybe I did miss it like I said but I looked. It makes sense to criticize Hendry only he deserves it. It also makes sense under your theory to assume that he would applauded more than AL or other NL GMs on this board. Why does it have to be only criticism? When people think Hendry makes a good move he gets praised a lot. Threads on the Howry/Pierre/Eyre moves don't make it to the lengths that they are if no one thinks Hendry did the right thing. Heck, there's a huge thread of praise over Macias being DFA'd, the Nomar trade thread was huge, etc.
  2. How many players have a .100+ IsoD? That's almost like saying that .400 is the standard of good OBP.
  3. Please, show me the evidence that Pierre is better than Wilkerson. Not taking the bait. I've made my statement. I'll quote numbers and then you'll tell me they don't mean anything and then you'll quote numbers and tell me why they prove Wilkerson is better. Blah blah blah blah. We went through this yesterday regarding Soriano and Walker when you misrepresented some numbers about their difference in OBP. Then we talked about it regarding Wilkerson and Pierre when you initially said Pierre was superior only in stolen bases and then admitted he had better numbers in other categories. It comes down to opinion, and my is as valuable as yours. And judging from your user name, maybe you don't have such a good history of evaluating players. This is just great. You make the claim that Pierre is better than Wilkerson and you won't back it up. Let's avoid all discussion because we don't have the same opinion. Trying to slight my username is also great.
  4. Kotchman, McPherson, Wood. You probably won't get any of them for Patterson, but those are the names you're probably thinking of.
  5. Please, show me the evidence that Pierre is better than Wilkerson.
  6. Well said. Nitpick- Only Pinto is LHP, Nolasco and Mitre are RHP.
  7. SoCal contact who told me about the Angels/Cubs rumour last week also said Arizona may be in the mix for Patterson. He posed three scenarios: (1) Patterson for Luis Gonzalez and cash; (2) 3-way deal with Patterson going to AZ, Glaus going to LA and Bradley coming to the Cubs along with prospect movement and cash. (3) 4-way deal with Vazquez going to the Red Sox, Manny going to the Mets, Floyd going to the Cubs, and Corey and prospects going to AZ. Crazy stuff! I'd take all of those. 2,3,1 in order of preference.
  8. Is this the next move? I thought Benson went to the Royals? Never was official. Royals got Redman instead.
  9. Cashman: We'll give you Cano and Wang for [insert good player here] GM: ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  10. Miles and Bigbie have been terrible. Maybe they'll get smacked with the magic BABIP stick that Nunez got last year.
  11. mlbcontracts.blogspot.com I don't know if he's updated for this past season or not, but all those figures are accurate. I wish I could get my hands on a Red and Green book. Whatever happened to that database that you (I think) put together here on NSBB. That was a really cool thing. Is it still alive and well or what? It's still up there, but it hasn't been updated or added to in a while. Lack of time and laziness are the main culprits. I'm hoping to put in a dent in it over Winter Break.
  12. They're lucky no one else tried to swoop in behind their back and snatch him up. He had a very good year last year, be interesting to see if he can keep it going in 06. Everyone was going to wait until after today anyways to make sure they didn't have to give up a draft pick.
  13. We have 10 days to trade him, otherwise he will be released. HE"S FINALLY GONE THANK YOU SWEET GOD THANK YOU. Stop the presses. Does anyone know his service time? He can accept a minor league assignment if it's less than 5 years, can't he? 6 yrs: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/player_locator_results.jsp?playerLocator=macias This means Macias can accept assignment, he was arbitration eligible.
  14. Ways the Cubs can benefit from this: Getting Vidro Going after GMJ to backup OF(or start over Pierre :P) I can't wait to see Soriano's line playing half his games in RFK.
  15. And the Army of .091 is defeated.
  16. If I had a desk job, and I typed my whole life using the same finger placement and such, then I got carpal tunnel(sorry if misspelled). After I returned to my job, my boss doesn't say anything to me about changing my hand placement to prevent this. So, apparently, it's entirely up to me to change the way I've done this task(that is my livelihood) my entire life. That would be very difficult, maybe even unreasonable. I don't know what's causing it, making it very difficult to diagnose what to change as well.
  17. mlbcontracts.blogspot.com I don't know if he's updated for this past season or not, but all those figures are accurate. I wish I could get my hands on a Red and Green book.
  18. Wilkerson takes a ton of walks, and he hits for a good deal of power. He plays a serviceable center field. He's no Milton Bradley defensively, but he's better than Pierre. What don't you like about him? AVG? K's?
  19. Boo. At the play on words, not Jones. I don't care about the player/writer.
  20. Like I said before, his IsoP is in tune with his college and minor league numbers. Considering that the steroid policy is much tougher in the minors, and his down year also coincided with him having an injury and playing half his games at RFK, I don't think that's the case with Brad.
  21. Range Factor isn't a very good metric, since pitching staffs have a large impact on it. Going from Colorado to the strikeout heavy staff in Florida with Beckett, Burnett, and Co. probably had more to do with his RF going down than the Park. Going by BP's fielding metrics, Pierre went from being average to slightly above average in Colorado, to decidedly below average as a Marlin.
