  1. What part of Wilkerson's numbers are "atrocious at best"? He's superior to Pierre in every single facet of the game sans stolen bases. Is that you opinion or do the numbers (and not just your favorite categories) bear that out? Okay, aside from batting average, which isn't one of "my favorite categories", triples, and the aforementioned SB, find something that Pierre does better than Wilkerson. OBP, SLG, HR, 2B, BB, defense, you name it. Wilkerson's better. I wasn't issuing a challenge, just trying to determine if your statement was factually correct, which it apparently was not by your own admission. So W is better than Pierre because he has better OBP, SLG, HR and BB numbers. Burnitz has better HR and SLG numbers and only slightly worse OBP number than W. Is Burnitz better than W. I don't know. What do you think? And remember, a walk is only as good as a single, not all hits. Last year was also a down year for Wilkerson, as he was hampered by an injury and playing in RFK. But the 30 point gap in OBP is a minimum for the improvement most likely, and that in itself is a big deal. Also, like I said before, Wilkerson was hampered last season, and his numbers in the three years prior are vastly superior to Burnitz.
  2. Pretty good move for the Sox. If Loretta gets the power back that he inexplicably lost last year, it's a fantastic move for the Sox. I assume that means Mirabelli will start for SD?

  4. They were both rated in the top-20 of the absolutely loaded Southern league. They were 2-3 in ERA for the Southern league. They both have pretty good stuff, Pinto has a little better stuff, Nolasco has great control. Everyone talks about Chad Billingsley of LA like he's an amazing prospect, and Pinto and Nolasco both put up similar if not better numbers at the same level(albeit a year older than Billingsley). There's no justification for saying that they "never would've made our rotation". They were 2 of our best pitching prospects, and aside from Guzman, they were the closest to the Majors with Wood and Maddux's contracts expiring.

  6. Bradley doesn't have much of a platoon split, so if you get him, then I probably wouldn't go after Mench. Assuming you get Floyd and not Bradley, here are a couple FA OF's that might be useful in a platoon, with their OPS v. LHP: Dustan Mohr: .907(125 PA's *Coors*), .815(388 PA's *No Coors*) in '02-'04 Gabe Kapler: .877(35 PA's), .839(266 PA's) in '02-'04 Both are average to good defenders at the corner OF spots.
  7. I like Floyd. If you get him and Patterson isn't around next year, then there's plenty of RH corner OF's that have good platoon splits, and you can get real good production out of RF.
  8. That prediction made me wonder, so I checked and I was surprised. OSU has given up more than 25 points just once this year, 31 at Minnesota. Other highs were 25 v. Texas, 24 v. Michigan St., and 21 at Michigan. They gave up 10 or fewer points 5 times(N'western, SDSU, @Indiana, Iowa, Illinois). Not trying to make anything of your prediction, just seeing it got me thinking, and what I found I thought was interesting.
  9. Make sure the "Disable BBCode in this post" box isn't checked. The syntax is correct.
  10. Depends how they're used. Walker's the better 1-2 hitter. Sori the better 4-5-6 hitter. Soriano in the 4 hole? No thanks. Walker is the better hitter. Soriano would be okay in the 6 hole. But he costs 4X as much, while being nowhere near 4X the player. Please say that your argument regarding Walker and Soriano is based solely on money. Because if it isn't and you're saying that flat out Walker is a better player, you are way off. Even in the precious OPS catergory Soriano is 30 point higher over the course of their careers. All Walker does better than Soriano is walk, that's it. He gets on base at a rate 50 points higher. Considering that a point of OBP is worth roughly 1.5 of SLG, I'd say that makes up for the SLG difference. Plus Soriano was garbage outside of his home hitters park.
  11. I don't get this for TB, don't they have Cantu to play 3B? Or are they going to put Burroughs at 2B? I can't remember who they have coming up there.
  12. What you don't take into account in those adjusted stats is the the effect of having an effective runner on the bases having on a pitcher. Wilkerson doesn't give that threat. I have not seen it as a Cubs fan but I will be paying close attention to see how Pierre truely effects posing pitchers. And I'm excited watch that and see for myself how true it is or not. Looking at Pierre and Castillo, when one performs well, the other doesn't perform as well, and vice versa. Their production is almost a perfect ratio in that sense. If anything, you could draw the conclusion that having Pierre on base is a negative for the hitter, who has to worry about not swinging when Pierre takes off, etc.
  13. Smart move by the Braves. I don't know if they could've gotten more, but I like Villareal and Cormier.
  14. Ah, that was actually my guess. Thanks.
  15. Because I feel like being difficult today... Walker Lugo Abreu Lee Ramirez Barrett Murton Pierre
  16. he also said that they're targeting milwood. offman knows nothing about baseball, and he's right there. Ofman first reported the Pierre story a month ago saying that it would likely include Pinto. So, um, he may know a little something. The anti-Score sentiment here is pathetic. I don't live in Chicago or listen to any of the radio stations there, but I think that makes the Score 1 for 400,000 in the rumor dept.
  17. And paid high. haha, i know. i'm just trying to make this less painfull. i hope we get jack wilson. then this offseason will really rock. Yeah, I would say go all out and make an all-defense team with Wilson and Jacque Jones, but Pierre can't even field, so that's no fun.
  18. Of course Wilson would be on Hendry's radar. plz stop screwing around Hendry
  19. I will refrain from making comment$. I'm all for making fun of O$U, but I think any college student and roomate's laptops plus their DVD collection would run at least $1400, and a PS2($200) + 11 games at $50 each = $750. However, a $500 watch plus 3 grand in cash?
  20. i've heard other people say that, and i don't understand why. won't the slow grass keep his slap hits from getting through? Wouldn't they die in limbo between fielders like infield hits and swinging bunts. I would think that most of the scratch hits he gets would get slowed up and fielded, which means he's likely out.
  21. When did anyone say that Pierre will never return to his career numbers? I've heard several people say 'what if?', but not with the authority that people talk about Lee's career year.
