  1. Imagine showing this lineup and roster to someone from 2017 and saying “yes these are the Cubs.”
  2. Does anyone know if this means Lauri is gone too? It would be cool to keep him because you could always trade someone if it's not working out. Also I think Thad might have been a better fit for this current team, even though I'm excited about the roster as a whole.
  3. It's really going to be interesting to see what these guys sign for. I would love a timeline and corresponding values for any Cubs offers made to them. I could see the Yankees actually overpaying for Rizzo if he continues to produce for them (3/60 or 4/75 ish). I think KB eventually gets 5/130 from somone (probably the Giants) and Baez gets 5/110 from the Mets. That's a bummer if it's what it takes for Bryant/Baez. Well I'm talking directly out of my ass on this. Also I think their performance over the last couple months will matter what they ultimately end up with. I know this makes me seem like a Ricketts **** but paying +$200 million for either of these guys just seems like a bad decision. With the big caveats that of course it's not my money and usually there's always one or two teams willing to spend recklessly (so they may be able to match or exceed what the Cubs offered).

  5. Phil Rodgers is hilarious, no surprise he loves Nicky two strikes. I’d like to see this guy stay on the field before committing anything. They’ve got him for 5 year already!
  6. I am going to be very interested to see what these three make in free agency. Is anyone going to throw $200 million at Baez or Bryant? Why do I see them both getting something like 5/130. The financial landscape has changed a lot in the past few years when the Cubs allegedly made these $200 million offers.
  7. It fit Grace but also I think kind of a awkward number. KB is like a 5 or a 23.
  8. I’ll say what everyone is thinking, 17 never looked right on KB and it only added to the feeling that his time on the team was temporary. I expect him to find himself and even greater success as a more natural #23.
  9. Same, I'm over it and this team has been going nowhere for a while. Although it'll be sad when KB and Javy go (if they indeed do, despite there being reasons to move on). However they better get to work on building this thing back up. No reason the Cubs shouldn't be perennial contenders.
  10. Best bit of Cubs news in quite some time.
  11. Who do we think he is calling out? Hopefully Sogard.
  12. Could Patrick Wisdom actually be good, or is this still residual pixie dust?
  13. Not that I was complaining but this season's fun May always felt a little fool's gold-y to me. It's a .500/mediocre team and I hope they sell off everything that isn't bolted down. Bullpens are fluid year to year, so I have no attachment really to any of these guys who have performed well so far. Bring back Schwarber and Yu!
  14. I hope his fans at Lurie aren't expecting a visit anytime soon.
  15. Kemba doesn't interest me. He can only score against bad competition anymore, his defense is atrocious. One Celtic I could be interested in is Marcus Smart. Even when Zach was out the Bulls scored the ball pretty well. What I think they need is some perimeter defense. Maybe Smart is that guy.
  16. Mariners spring training vibe going on. At least the patch is cool.
  17. The Cubs winning is good and also makes things more uncomfortable for Ricketty & Co. (also a good thing). Keep stacking those W's.
  18. Man he sucks. Basically every "unwritten" rule is just about protecting the fee-fees of some coddled loser. How can you get bent out of shape about anything when a team uses a non-pitcher as a pitcher? The White Sox are a good young team but TLR will always find a way to turd it up.
  19. Residual bitterness over 2016.
  20. Reinsdorf, LaRussa, and Pujols can sit around and talk about "the good old days" together. You know Kenny Williams will want to be at that table too. I remember seeing Ken Griffey Jr. in centerfield at a white sox game in 08 and it was brutal. He didn't move for an entire inning! I will always wonder if Pujols' decline would have been so precipitous if he had stayed with the Cardinals. He didn't even put together *1* Cardinals-pujols worthy season his entire tenure. I know they won their last WS during his last season there but not signing him again was truly a bullet dodged.
