  3. Anyone can have a bad 71 years........
  4. From today's Trib.......... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060621cubsbits,1,4150910.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines "The New York Daily News reported the Yankees have had "internal discussions" in the organization about acquiring Cubs right fielder Jacque Jones. The Cubs are not looking to trade Jones, and sources said no one from the Yankees has called to inquire about him." NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
  5. All depends, as always, on the starting pitching.
  6. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/428582p-361434c.html Boy I don't know, I'd sure hate to lose that three year deal and break up this outfield.........
  7. with back spasms. Gutless move....just cut your losses Hendry, and move on.
  8. You have to admit, this team is so bad it's pretty damn funny.
  9. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com Wood being shopped, Texas interested....
  10. Does the Cubs play really suprise anyone? It's not like this came out of nowhere......
  11. Right, because that's exactly what I meant to imply. After a very strong outting from Prior last night, I expected to come here and read positive things about it. Instead, I read three pages of mainly negative posts about the situation. One of the best pitchers in baseball is either ready or almost ready to join our rotation... that's a big deal and something to get excited about, especially considering that the Cubs haven't given us a whole lot to get excited about this year. I just expected a more positive attitude I guess. One "very strong outing" in AAA doesn't excite me a whole lot. When I consistently see the Mark Prior of old in the majors, then I'll be excited.
  12. And I'm still waiting for all the big-name free agents that are going to want to play for Dusty......... That's right, the Cubs don't sign those kind of free agents.
  13. We have a winner......I'll have faith in him when he does it in back-to-back seasons. Hopefully, Hendry's learned his lesson.
  14. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=198894 The only thing missing in the article......maybe a mention of Hendry's contract extension. You know, a little salt in the wounds.
  15. I've also heard Mike Murphy ( I know, I know) report that someone "in the know" has told him the Cubs have two sets of financial books, each with different figures.
  16. I read the title of this thread and thought "No, Pierre is pretty bad". I really don't see a big turnaround coming from this guy. He's not good.
  17. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-cub09.html Attaboy, Mike! It took you a few years, but welcome.
  18. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cubnt07.html "I like football players as baseball players,'' Baker said. "They tend to be tougher. I've always said the kids I like to play baseball are football players, basketball players, wrestlers and water polo guys because they know what hard work and training is.'' So would a dream draft pick for Hendry and Baker be a toolsy, former water-polo player who can catch the ball?
  19. sounds like you are rooting against him. wrong.....are you his agent?
  20. I'm one of those "who gave up on Jones", but we'll see in September.
  21. How about Maddux to Detroit? I heard Maroth is out for up to three months. Anyone familiar with their prospects?
  22. Great question. This team has gone from five outs from the World Series in 03 to being one game out of last in June of 06. That's quite a freefall. And that results in a two year extension !!!! Rather odd way to go about winning a title, but what do I know?
  23. Dusty fails to make the obvious choice on a daily basis. He is, however, both stupid and irrational, so it is difficult to predict how he will behave. Stupid, irrational and obvious. Wow, well I guess you should know since you have access to all the inside workings of the Cubs clubhouse and know everything there is to know about baseball. Because, to me, thats what it would take to make such a bold statement. Certain aspects of baseball may seem simple to us, but I bet if you talk to a lot of major league managers today, they will say that there are very few "obvious" choices in baseball except for the ones the fans tell us about. Of course, I could very well be wrong and baseball actually is a simple game with obvious choices that truly boils down to numbers and doesn't really involve human beings, but I'm certainly not smart enough or exposed to enough inside information to know this for sure. If you are, more power to ya. As far as this thread is concerned, I guess we'll see who is right when Dusty either starts Nevin in place of Murton on a regular basis or doesn't and uses him as a fill in for Lee and a platoon with Jones. CubsWin, based on Dusty's time in Chicago, would you categorize him as an intelligent, rational manager? I'm still trying to figure out why Womack, he of the .343 average, was benched in favor of Neifi of the .206 land of suck. I don't believe someone has to "have access to all the inside workings of the Cubs clubhouse and know everything there is to know about baseball." to give an opinion on Dusty's ability.
  24. Pointless trade.......shuffle the deck chairs. At least our GM got his contract extension.......
