  1. Perhaps now the NFL at large will realize that Mr. Jauron isn't head coach material. I wonder if he'd be OK as a college coach.
  2. They'll use the Lovie Plan: play about 20 yards off him and give him all the room in the world for shorter routes. If they don't beat us long, they'll kill us with a thousand shorter passes.
  3. I simply can not believe that the Bears must play in prime time again. I thought they would flex that crap away. Put Chargers/Broncos on instead. Falcons/Gnats. Something.
  4. It's got White Sox land buzzing, that's for sure. I'm not sure I see the point for the Angels either, as stated.
  5. Marty Havlat has 2 goals this season, and is sporting a -13. The Wild gave him a $30million contract. I guess the only secret is: get rid of the right guys, and keep the right guys. Yeah. Easier said than done, but early returns are that the Hawks made a decent decision on Havlat.
  6. It's true that there's always a risk that someone you gave the big money to just isn't the player you were projecting him to be. If that's really Kane's future, I can say I will definitely be disappointed. I'm just hoping he continues to attempt to round out his game, while maintaining as much of the wow factor that he currently brings. Because despite his shortcomings, I feel like he's the player who is most likely to make me go "wow" when I'm watching a Hawks game.
  7. Mike, I'm officially apologizing to Derek Anderson. He's probably not a good QB, but watching this atrocity I'm finally truly convinced that there's pretty much no way anyone could play well behind center in Cleveland. Which isn't to defend Brady either, he's been bad tonight. But they need some offensive playmakers if any QB is going to win for them. Yeah. Probably the worst offense to ever grace an NFL field to be honest. Our line is young, our receivers are rookies, and our tight end and running back are old and washed up. It isn't pretty. So, what do you think will happen when LeBron leaves? Are we going to see mass protests or something? There really isn't much beyond LeBron, especially since the Indians are bad. I guess we've all come to expect suckage from the Browns. I'd like to see better performances from Cleveland teams in general -- because I think the fans are decent, and the Cleveland teams that are bad really wouldn't hurt Chicago much if they were good (well, except for the White Sox, which I think would be a positive).
  8. I like how he blames the Bears being a running team on their QB struggles. He obviously hasn't watched any Bears football this year. Isn't the point that they emphasize the run only and use the passing game as an afterthought? They went out and got a big time QB this offseason, but they still have an incompetent offensive coordinator who has been in the NFL and big ten college football for 2 decades and has yet to be involved in the development of a good QB. And they gave him no receivers. It's sort of like ignoring the offensive line for over half a decade, then spending one first rounder on a guy and pretending you've solved the problem. Lovie still talks about this team being a running team, even though that's a joke. They live in a bygone era where winning and losing is all about running the ball, when in fact passing has dominated this league for a very long time. Teams like New England don't even pretend to emphasize the run. Chicago still tries to act like they are a running team and are really only begrudgingly going all pass due to running incompetence. They need to embrace their passing ways. They need a real QB coach, a real offensive coordinator, a quality line and better weapons at receivers. Yes, I think his main point was that the Bears don't have much of an emphasis on the passing game as an organization, which is why they suck at it. .....I think we've been talking about that on this board for years.
  9. I've been saying this for months. I don't have much issue with trading Hardy, but I don't think a CF was what they needed. If Doug Melvin has any brains in his head, he'll trade Prince. Bums in seats. He won't do it. Miller Park will empty out on him. He's not re-signing with them anyway so they might as well get something for him before he's gone. This. He's going to walk, no doubt about that. The picks would be nice, but spinning him for pitching would be better. Besides, it seems to me Braun is the darling in Milwaukee, not so much Prince. Eh, they both really are. Braun probably more so. But Brewer fans love the Prince.
  10. Yeah, my thought process is that the Bears can't be 9-7 and make the wildcard with the tiebreaker losses they have been racking up. I know they *can*, but I would think the strong likelihood is that they need 10-6 to get in. Which means they can lose one more game this year and have a likely postseason appearance. I'm going to stop right there because if I continue it will just be negative stuff.
  11. Driving in to work this morning there was a promo for the game from Westwood 1. Let's just say they were struggling to come up with stuff to make the game seem interesting.
  12. Well, someone's going to have to be gone then if I'm reading all this stuff correctly.
  13. Funny. My dad met this guy on a Florida vacation once. Just thought I'd mention it for no particular reason.
  14. I think you are revealing why it's considered a bad job, more than defending it. Isn't the whole problem about everybody living in the past? How the coaches of the distant past are remembered doesn't really affect the status of the job right now. The problem is they're bringing in the wrong people. They hired a career assistant to replace Holtz, replaced him with a resume-fudger, panicked and hired Willingham to stem the negative p.r. blitz from the resume-fudger, then hired an NFL guy who doesn't get college football at all. People who call it a bad job conveniently forget that it's been filled by bad coaches for the last 13 years. I don't think its a bad job but I would definitely be shaking my head if someone like Meyer took it.
  15. Yeah, I heard about that yesterday. If he's done for his career, then that's a shame. Good player.
  16. hah. take that philly.
  17. When I watched that play, the thing that came to my mind was "what are the chances the Bears would have the guts to play up on the LOS and blow that thing up?" And I came up with: 0 percent chance. And then I was sad.
  18. That guy is really stupid. For one he calculates the results and hey going for it was the better choice. Then he says football is played on the field as if saying playing the percentages is stupid. Umm yeah you go ahead and do what makes you more likely to lose and I'll go with what's more likely to win. Plus going for it is saying my offense can beat your defense i.e. he was deciding the game on the field. I don't think the calculator was meant to be serious. For one thing, it allows the individual to choose their own odds. I could have made the decision to go for it grossly wrong and then come over here and say "I IS RIGHT !!!1!! YOUZ RONG!!!1!" Same with you. This analysis is a lot better. It also says I'm probably wrong. hah.
  19. I know, they keep putting us on prime time or in the national Sunday afternoon slot and it sucks for everyone.
  20. The Titans are starting to look rather salty. I had a feeling they would at least be competitive at some point. Their horrible start just didn't seem like it would stick all year long.
  21. Is that sarcasm? Or did you forget the Bears don't pick until the 3rd round this year? I admit, I've had to catch myself on this a couple times too. Normally there would be a top draft pick to root for, but this year the worse we are the better the Broncos will like it.
  22. Wait. We're really going to have a thread for this? Good to see we'll at least have some support from the Cowboys fans this week.
  23. LOL! Oh, this just made my day.
  24. I think somebody on here posted that Duncan makes $800,000 with the Cardinals and that's the most amongst coaches (non-managers) in MLB. Also, I think Jaramillo used to be second on that list and now has taken over first, at least for now. Per John Hayman on MLBN, Jaramillo's take is some $400,000 more than the next-best-paid hitting coach (Mattingly.) if he can help the offense to perform like we all know it can, he's worth every penny. What does that even mean? This isn't the Colts missing Peyton Manning for a game. The Cubs have had a weak-to-mediocre offense for much of the past decade. 2008 was the outlier, and those guys are all just older now. Couple that with the likelihood of a downgrade from Bradley and it really doesn't matter what the hitting coach does. He's had Soriano before, in some of his least effective seasons which were during his peak years. Soriano might rebound just be default, but this lineup needs improvements. I guess it means one of two things: If it works out, then it was good. It if doesn't work out, then it was bad.
  25. Wisconsin at Northwestern BARNBURNER coming down the pipe. Yeah, this season seems to be ending with a whimper. At least there's the SEC conf. championship game to look forward to. Unless Texas decides to screw it up, it's going to be Texas vs. winner of the SEC championship game.
