    I am increasingly wondering what the point is of having Lou manage this team.

    Plus, a fresh Marshall vs. a tired Demp. To me the smarter move was to bring Marshall. Why get Marshall up at all if he isn't going to use him in that situation?

    Votto also has 2 HRs in 3 total hits off Demp. Hasn't hit him well, but when he has it has been solid contact

    Sad that Demp can give up only 2 through six and it's just not good enough. And it's a regular occurence too.

    Fukudome at least making this guy throw pitches. How about a concerted effort to make this guy actually work for his outs?

    This team has become a real chore to watch and root for. Seems like every time I turn on the TV it's just anotherbad play, or more non-existent offense, or just generally sloppy losing baseball. Sure there are moments of good stuff, but those have become more islands in a sea of frustration than the norm. Keep winning, Blackhawks. I'm not ready for Cub exclusivity right now.

    Well it's good to see they are finally putting the blame where it belongs instead of more whining about the refs and such.

    Yeah, I mentioned it before the game as well. The Canucks are always talking about how they will keep their emotions in check and focus. But they never do. Last night was hilarious. They played their least focused game of the series at the time when they knew they needed to do the very opposite. We appear to have Luongo's number too. Is there any team that scores on him like the Hawks? That said, the 4th win is always the toughest to get. Let's close this thing out tomorrow and not give the Canucks any glimmer of hope.

    He's going to have plenty of glory if he wins titles in Chicago. And I agree with Tim -- he's not escaping Jordan's shadow by being in Cleveland if we're talking about being called the GoAT. There is no escaping that shadow. Plus, Chicago has more capacity to launch a legacy player into the stratosphere of history, because frankly it is a much more important market to play in than Cleveland.

    We can drop this game and still have home ice advantage (for all that it's worth, but still). I think the Canucks are much more desperate than we are, and whatever they might say about keeping their cool, I fully expect them to be in freak out mode tonight.

    Exactly. You can easily make the case that it won't work out for the Bears based on the individual factors on this team. There's no Galactic Alignment that causes free agency based efforts to fail every time, or some unknown force that conspires to cause any coach in a make-or-break situation to always fail no matter what. That's just lazy reasoning.

    I think the difference is what SSR was getting at. Who do you think of when you think of the Yankees or Cowboys? Any number of stars that they've had could come to mind. Same with the Lakers and Celtics. For the Bulls, it's Jordan, the end. If that sort of thing matters to a player, I can certainly see how there'd be more of a microscope in Chicago relative to somewhere else. But again, is that really going to be the deciding factor for a player like Lebron? I really doubt it. We're talking about a man who carries his star with him, not someone who is looking to a place to define him. I'm sure SSR is right, Lebron won't wind up here. It won't be because of the Jordan legacy, though.

    Not a big fan of his reasoning. He insinuates that the Bears have to win the SB or Lovie and Angelo are out the door. I doubt that very much. My guess is a 10 win season would be plenty to guarantee they return. That sort of thing happens all the time. Cowher faced a couple situations where he needed to win to stem the tide of getting canned, and they won. A lot of people have said the 2008 season saved John Fox, while 2007 almost certainly saved Coughlin in NY. Fisher was starting to take heat after three disappointing years until they rebounded. Andy Reid's job continues to be threatened but he keeps making the playoffs when he most needs to succeed. Just this year Childress was almost certainly in a win or your out situation, and he won. I'm with you. He's leaving out some recent cases where it has worked out, and I agree -- SB run is not necessary. A solid winning season and a playoff berth will save Lovie & crew for the time being.

    Hard to believe I was just in Milwaukee watching the Cubs have the Crew for lunch. I don't know what this team is right now. I'm thinking now is probably a good time to put the Cubs on /ignore for a little while.

    Yeah, I really don't see him keeping his job if they don't have at least a deep playoff run. He's only got 1 year left on his deal and it's not going to cost much to give him the boot. Yep, I just really don't want the team to hang around the edges of a playoff spot long enough for him to make a horrible trade to help this years team out. That's why I'm beginning to wonder if a solidly poor season might be better. I don't want the powers that be getting the idea that we should continue to coast along.

    Maybe he is heading for better times, but I am more inclined to believe that the Cubs' bats were simply horrible last night, as they have been prone to be many times this year. But, maybe that's not the case. I don't really know.

    I don't think the writer does, either... He was just acknowledging a counterargument and dispelling it. Understood. I've heard that sort of thing thrown around before though. I think it's valid for some players perhaps, but when it comes to the very top guys, I can't see Jordan's legacy deterring them. Actually, Lebron might even consider it a challenge.

    I don't buy that a player of Lebron's calibre would "always live in the shadow of Jordan's statue" or whatever. Lebron in Chicago would be big enough to warrant another statue, right next to Jordan's. I think that's a false negative. Lebron's not going to feel like he can't escape the ghost of a superstar from 10+ years ago. He's too big for that.

    At 4-2 I was about ready to turn off the game and declare it a win in the name of an extra 20-30 minutes of sleep. Then that goal happened, and it was just the icing on the cake. I didn't stick around for the refs decision. Maybe it wasn't meaningless, but it wasn't worth watching whether it would be scored a goal or not, IMHO. For Canucks fans to fixate on that goal is pretty silly. They lost the game before that.

    I agree, but didn't ESPN try to make the LT name stick with Tomlinson? I can see how it would transfer, but I do think it's strange. I'm not a big fan of just using initals for a nickname anyway. It seems lazy.
