if what i heard is correct, the teams are making players leave at halftime and fly home to n.o./indy, so they can fly back to miami with their teams. if true, then the teams are just as stupid as the nfl. Makes one wonder if they really thought about this before they moved the game.

It would be nice for the Cubs to get a guy to come off serious injury and blossom, and not the Cards. -
It started out looking a lot like last year's ridiculous blowout at Edmonton, as the Oilers barely belonged on the ice. The Hawks went flat and things got mildly interesting, but they seemed to at least control the game throughout. How much of the Hawks going flat do you believe is saving themselves for the playoffs? I think we've been seeing a little more of this lately, with teams coming back in the later portion of the game after the Hawks have a big lead. At this point I can accept a little throttling to save players. It's all about the playoffs for this team. But I don't know if that's really what is happening.

They also had crappy QBs. Crappy because they're just crappy? Or crappy because they were never developed? I don't think I want to find out. Pass on this guy plz.

He had such little impact with the QBs they had, they needed to bring in Favre to make everything OK. That doesn't make me think he's going to be very good for Cutler. I think this would be a shaky choice at best.

Wow, that seems like a smart signing. I like this. Is this the new Hendry? If he pans out, it's extra power however we want to use it. If he doesn't, it's just one year so not much pain.

I posted this on another board, but frankly I don't think any of the candidates I have seen other than Martz are worth getting upset over. And Martz is still out there. I'm not sure what exactly was the reason Martz wasn't hired. Was it because Jay really doesn't like him, or was that more media BS? Was it because Angelo didn't want Lovie to hire a friend right away? I don't know. But he's been the best name I've heard in relation to the position from the beginning, and remains so 3 weeks later.

Thinking twice, maybe. But that cannot have weighed an ounce in this decision if the guy went to Oakland. Say whatever you want about the Bears, they are not nearly the mess the Raiders are. Chicago is way above the dregs of the league. Lovie is no more unsettled than most coaches who didn't make the playoffs this year, even if his situation is more public this offseason. I think you are right about Jackson. He's going to grab the contract when it is offered. He's not in a position to be playing organizations against each other. He needs to jump at the job when it is on the table. Raiders wanted him much more than we did, and I'm fine with that.

I do think there's an element of coaches thinking twice before coming to Chicago, because of Lovie's situation (not becuase they dislike Lovie -- there's an important distinction there). That doesn't mean it's the only factor, and it doesn't mean that's the exact single reason why a coach wouldn't come here. And let's be honest. Who cares about Hue Jackson? He's probably the last guy I would want running an offense led by Jay Cutler. Glad to see he went to the Raiders. I'd rather hire some college hot shot than him. I don't think this is the end of the world, and I'm fine with just taking our time at this point. Lots of people make hay about offseason antics. When the season starts, things often change dramatically, and all the hand-wringing that occurred in months like January, or June, or even August, seems silly in retrospect. So I'm willing to just let the Bears do what they have to do. It's not like we have a choice, but still. I'll give them some latitude.

They lost to the Cardinals once on the last play of the last game to knock them out of the playoffs and I'm told that call is priceless. I think that's the one. It's 30 seconds of agonizing and screaming. I actually think those guys are some of the best local NFL radio out there.

LOL, that was awesome. Those Vikings announcers are usually good for a great call. I think there was another game where someone beat them on a last second pass and they're screaming "NOOOO!" Great stuff.

I don't see why you'd think this. They have something they've never had, a legit QB who can win them games. The Bears are not good, but they have talent. They are not among the dregs of the league. They are in a group that can go either way in any given year. Due largely to poor coaching, they've come up short for three straight years, but they have been in the picture. They need a couple more guys, no question, but they could beat anybody on their schedule next year. What would it mean if they won a few more games and made the playoffs? It would mean Cutler and the offense took a step in the right direction and the so-called lame duck status of the staff would be postponed. It would not take a miracle. I agree we've failed due largely to poor coaching. I don't see why that would change in 2010 other than the blind squirrel finding a nut. I also believe the roster is likely better than what we've been seeing on the field. I think our main difference is that you believe there is significant hope to improve the coaching in 2010. I'm pretty negative about our chances.

They were blown out 4 times: 45-10 by the Bengals 41-21 by the Cardinals 36-10 by the Vikings 31-7 by the Ravens So nearly half the time they lost, they got blown off the field. Nobody is saying they are good, but rather it wouldn't be a miracle for them to get better. Exactly. The NFC is pretty crazy. The 1-2 seeds from last year didn't make the playoffs this year. Atlanta did not make it. Tampa went from 11-5 to 3-4 wins. You can turn it around in a hurry in the NFL. I know, but that's not really getting better. It's getting lucky, being fortunate, relying on the badness of others to make it look like you are more than what you are. I think it *would* be a miracle for the Bears to actually get better. Could they scratch off a couple more wins and look like a playoff team though? Sure. But what does that really mean?

god this fills me with jealous envy I know you are being sarcastic, but it was pretty fun. Similar to what Wrigleyville would be like if we'd have won those games in 03. actually i was being serious. i want to be a part of a celebration like that Yeah, that looked like a great time.
