    Sure, 16 miles, but that's a 3 hour drive. ;) I would guess that vast majority of NY athletes live outside the city, many in NJ. Eli and a couple others live in my town of Hoboken, which is between Newark and Manhattan. It has nothing to do with where you have to live/commute, it's more about playing for a team that until now has been in competition with the Islanders for NY area popularity, and being in the middle of a huge transition that is still unsettled. Valid points. I just don't think that the relative obscurity of the Nets would outweigh the dominance of the LeBron James brand. I think LeBron is what the Nets need to be considered a NYC team. The team has an interesting history from it's days in the ABA, so it's not like it's just some crappy expansion team prodding along in obscurity. LeBron comes to the Nets, and its hip to be a Net fan, everyone is talking about them, and then before you know it, the team is in Brooklyn and they are a real NYC team. If the Angels can do it in LA, the Nets can do it in NYC. If he joins the Clippers it becomes hip to be a Clips fan too. Lebron would make any team in the NBA the instant new sweetheart ballclub.

    Yeah, I just think Newark is a huge deterrent as well. Especially when Chicago and NY are both on the table.

    Which could happen, of course. Ultimately I just don't think Peter King brings much to the table as a football "expert."

    It's not so much about NJ rehiring Cal, as it is how much does Cal want to go back to the Nets organization? At this point, I would say there is little chance of him returning to the Nets organization. He'd go if he knew Lebron would be there. I'm not so sure he'd go if he didn't know Lebron would be there.

    Peter King has enough trouble with coherent analysis during the season itself. I wouldn't give his "ranking" in May any more validity than I would bathroom graffiti.

    So true. Lebron would really be "getting in on the ground floor" if he went to NJ, so to speak.

    I think they've surpassed last year's team already. Last year's team never laid claim to a series lead in the WCF.

    Heh...I thought the same thing reading that article this morning. David Haugh has spent too much time around the likes of Rick Morrisey (before he left) and Steve Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom is simply horrible. He's the king of meaningless banter packaged up to sound like knowledgeable debate. He never says anything of substance, ever. Admittedly I've only really heard him on his Saturday morning show on the Score, but he consistently throws stuff out there that is nothing more than voodoo opinion with nothing behind it. His trib articles are as bad or worse than his radio appearances. Yeah, and he packages it up in this lithium/post Hippy voice quality that just drives me crazy.

    I'm hoping the Cubs will be pretty big sellers come deadline time. Not sure who would bring the most value, but lots of teams should be looking for veteran help for their playoff runs. Lilly's been a good Cub; I guess as with everyone, it depends on what we'd be looking at in terms of return value.

    According to this blog, the referee screwed up: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Referee-mix-up-keeps-Bolland-on-ice-for-Chicago-?urn=nhl,241322 The refs sucked that game. It resulted in 5 Hawks penalties vs. 0 for the Sharks. Now, I didn't watch every bit of action, but nobody's going to convince me that the Sharks played completely penalty-free. So frankly, the Hawks were due to get *something* from these terrible refs. In fairness, I haven't heard a lot of complaining about it, but there definitely should not be.

    Man, I am in awe of Niemi right now. That was so much fun to watch.

    I'll add Silva to that sentiment too. If someone had told me all 3 of those guys would be producing at a high level, I would have thought the Cubs would be having a hell of a hot start. Baseball is a strange game indeed.

    Sunday seems like it is so far away :( You mean I've got to watch the Cubs all this time, waiting for the Hawks? Oh my GOD.

    I actually can see the NJ thing. They can sign 2 max FAs, which means Lebron can team up with whoever he wants. It would be like plopping an instant title contender from absolutely nowhere into NJ -- ala Boston a few years ago. I can imagine that would be very attractive to Lebron, because he would get to choose more pieces. Hand-pick his surrounding cast.

    Yeah, it's pretty cool to take a step back and look at how far the Hawks have come from just a few years ago, when they weren't even worth watching. Back in those days it would have been a joke to think they could even hang on the same ice as a team like the Sharks. Now they are in a do-or-die series with the Western Conference's best, and with a legitimate shot, too. We've talked about it plenty here, but man -- what a turnaround the Hawks are as an organization. It's pretty unbelievable.
