  1. Jones, who I would start vs. Lh'ers even with Monroe on the roster. Why did we trade for Monroe again? So he could hit one homer that didn't factor into the final W/L in the first Marlins game. Oh, and for the entertainment value of watching him fidget nervously in center field because he's being played out of position.
  2. I saw a post somewhere else on NSBB saying that Phillips is only expected to play one game in the series (either today or Sunday). I hope its true. I'll see if I can find it again. As for Keppinger and Hopper, if someone can tell me where they live I can take some of my "associates" up and see to it that they are "otherwise detained" during the games. Hopefully it becomes easier to deal with Keppinger and Hopper when you know you don't have Griffey & Dunn to deal with afterwards. Every team has a couple good hitters anyway. Even the worst ones. There's really no excuse for not winning these ballgames. Inconceivable!
  3. He's been down, yeah. Sucks to see it too. I was hoping he wouldn't fade.
  4. You are right. He's just in a holding pattern right now, waiting for his injury to get good enough to go. Actually the Crew could wheel him out at any time this weekend if he's suddenly ready and they need it. Or, they might put him in for a BP appearance if it will help. The Crew have a few cards left to play. It's not over.
  5. This is typical Trachsel. I don't know if you guys were able to hear the Score play back an interview that he did with Mike North when he left from the Cubs, he was delusional then by saying his defense let him down and that's why his ERA was so bad. He calls out his defense and 2 minutes later he says he's a team player, the guy was full of it then, and is full of it now. He's a piece of crap. Before he was let go by the Cubs he went on the radio to complain that the Cubs wouldn't give him an extention that he thought he deserved (by losing close to 20 games). The guy is a complete tool.I'll tell you what though, Mike North got him good. He called him out on his "team player" BS. It was great. Unforgivable for Hendry to get this idiot. Just unforgivable.
  6. I can't figure out if Trax is smoking crack or Hendry. This guy doesn't even belong on this team, and now he's freaking out in the clubhouse when the team needs to relax? What the frakin' hell is going on here? Can we please leave this moron at a bus stop somewhere??!?
  7. The Cubs not collapsing to the one-game playoff receives as high a recommendation from me as I would give you a young man not becoming a murderer. Well -- close. 1) Go to college 2) Don't kill people 3) Don't collapse so you need a one game playoff
  8. Holy CRAP! Are you freaking kidding me???? GET THIS [expletive] OUT OF HERE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111
  9. If it gets to a playoff, we have about as close to zero chance of winning as you could possibly have. Marquis/Trachsel is like choosing between hanging or the firing squad in a game like that. There would be simply no chance against that Brewers lineup. I highly suggest that the Cubs don't let it come to that. You know, my highest recommendation? I recommend not choking like a bunch of choky choksters.
  10. If the Crew gets to the one game playoff, I'm going to go ahead and assume they'd kill us. Yeah I just cannot believe Lou & the boys couldn't squeeze out even one win against those guys. I understand they're a tougher matchup than their record and all that, but come on. I hope you're right. I'm trying to pull for these guys but they need to quit pressing, quit looking at what's happening in Milwaukee, and find a way to get a damn win against these teams who are playing for what? Winter ball assignments? A free vacation raffle? Sheesh.
  11. You'd swing at a patented 85 mph Trachsel-meatball grooved down the middle, too. LOL, yeah I imagine I would too. There's a tad bit of difference between swinging at the first pitch because you have no clue how to put a good AB together (many Cub hitters) and doing so because the opposing pitcher is giving you a meatball to blast to the deepest nether regions of the ballpark (Marlins hitters).
  12. If Z gets punked by these mini-Reds, I'm gonna blow up something. I'm gonna go out and put some M-80's in a bird's nest full of chicklings. Think of the chicks, Cubs.
  13. If we do make it, I think even with the NL as weak as it is there's a real solid chance we get swept right out without much of a thought. All it took was a sweep by the Marlins to bring the Soul we all know back. :) LOL. I told you, they crushed the confidence right out of me. I'm still unable to believe we just got swept by those guys. What worries me the most is whether this team can win when they have to. From a standings perspective going into the Marlins series, the Cubs had the have the attitude of winning 2 out of 3. As it turns out, it wasn't must win because of the Brewers losses. Nevertheless, the Cubs couldn't win when it mattered. That's what worries me about the Reds series, especially since the starting pitching will be much better than the Marlins. And then IF we make the playoffs, we're most likely going out West for the 1st round where we historically don't play very well. Exactly. They "needed" to win in Florida, and just simply could not. Yes, I know they didn't actually NEED it, but at the time it was thought that those were critical games -- and also I don't think we can minimize the impact of now not being able to rest anyone for the Cincy series. Basically needed 'em, and couldn't get 'em. That tells me a lot about this team, and it's not good.

  15. Yeah, I don't think Maddog is going to keep the Crew down today. They'll put up a 5 spot on him, probably. Padres will need to bring their bats. Every single game is critical for them as well. The only game I was worried about was last nights game. That was the only Brewer starter with shutdown stuff. I think the Padres will take 2 more games this series. I think they'll need to for their own reasons. But I have a feeling the Crew will take 2/3 and the Cubs will need to win one or it will be a tie-break in Chicago. I think it ends tonight. I have a strong feeling Cubs win tonight and the Brewers lose. I'm just feeling it... Well, here's to your feelings then
  16. Marquis would get a start somewhere, provided we survived long enough. And I think there's little doubt he would get shelled.

  18. I don't remember the Cubs winning 83 games last year. At best they'll have a 21 game improvement. Big fricken deal. That is entirely beside the point of this conversation. We are comparing the 2006 Cards to the 2007 Cubs. Anyway, I have no idea why people have this mentality. The Cubs stunk last year. This year they're mediocre at best and have a top payroll. That is not something to crow about. Seriously, where does this stuff come from? The magic of "making the playoffs" makes people think their team might be better than it really is. Then a lucky team like the Cards come along, win when they had no business doing so, and it just fuels the delusion. You're right, this is a mediocre ballclub with a massive payroll, not getting nearly the return on investment that they should. But due to the rest of the division, people puff their chests out a little bit more than they should.

  20. Trachsel has had a storied career with the Cubs. He was the guy who pitched the record-breaking ball to Big Mac. He was the guy who lost 18 games in a season. He was also the guy on the mound when we beat the Gnats in that one-game playoff in '98. Pitched well that day, actually. But adding him to this team, at this point in his career, was beyond stupid. Pitching him yesterday was unforgivably ridiculous. Shame on you Lou. Quit channeling Dusty and start acting like who you really are, instead of reverting to a "grit & grind vets" freak.
  21. As you might be aware, the Cards aren't the Cubs. The Cubs don't do those kinds of suprisingly good things.
  22. Yeah, I don't think Maddog is going to keep the Crew down today. They'll put up a 5 spot on him, probably. Padres will need to bring their bats. Every single game is critical for them as well.
  23. At the time it felt like one of those "lets make a move for the sake of making a move deals" and I also believe it was also an attempt to get another "veteran" starter. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. Yep. And now because of that move, we're in the position where we can't rest Z, can't rest Lilly, can't rest ARam's legs or Floyd. Bad moves like this have a way of cascading down to the rest of the roster.
  24. Well thanks to the Brewers we aren't all having heart transplant surgery right now. But the Marlins series showed me one thing about this club: don't ever assume they can do anything when it counts, not even win a single game. Not even against a bad team, as the Reds are especially without Dunn & Griff. If this club makes the playoffs, great. I will believe they are going to the moment they clinch, and not one moment before. I'm rooting for them, but I can't justify showing even the slightest confidence in their ability to get it done on their own.
  25. If the Cubs make the playoffs they will lose in the NLDS.
