  1. Sounds like a campaign ticket. :D Exactly my thought. I'd vote for them. :D
  2. Welcome to the forum! But, HOLY HUGE AVATARS, BATMAN (and bright obnoxious jackets...wow) Hahaha, come on, that jacket is worth the huge avatar, at least for a couple days. The jacket is beyond awesome my friends. Bruce Pearl might be my favorite coach in all of sports. Welcome to the forum by the way, Bruce. You from Tennessee?
  3. Cuban/Schuerholz 08. =P~ Schuerholz is basically retiring folks. He's still sticking with the Bravos organization. I fully realize this. Just the mindless hope of a Cub fan taking over. I'm sorry.
  4. Lou for somebody of good value and then hire Torre - that would be awesome, but likely wouldn't happen. I like Lou a lot, but if the Yanks are willing to part with someone of significant value I'd trade him. Especially with Torre sitting in free agency.
  5. Cuban/Schuerholz 08. =P~
  6. I have no problem staying out of the free agent market, but I definitely see some opportunities to improve the club through trades (and thus, likely add payroll). The Renteria talks is just one of a few feasible trade ideas I really like. You are correct that there are few free agents I'd have interest in - outside of ARod obviously.
  7. Using career number the two is not a good idea espeically in Theriot's case. I think he's proven that his 2006 line was an anomaly and that we're much more likely to see the 2007 version in the future. So look at their lines this year: DeRosa: .293/.371/.420/.791 Theriot: .266/.326/.346/.672 Theriot has never shown to have had much power and has a career .066 IsoP in the minors. Even if you take DeRosa's career numbers .278/.341/.408/.749, they're easily better than what Theriot did this year. DeRosa doesn't have a ton of power, but Theriot basically has none (5 HR's in 2048 career AB's in the minors). I would hardly consider DeRosa to be a slightly better batter. Who's to say the last two years for DeRo weren't fluky. And to restate one point DeRosa is 32 and likely to decline while Theriot is 27 and likely to improve or stay the same. Again though, I'm not making the arguement on who should start, I'm making the argument that you can't automatically assume DeRosa should start. DeRosa made a change in his batting stance two years ago that coincides with his improved numbers. That makes his improvement less likely to be a fluke. Also, I don't like the idea of completely ignoring what has been done in the past. Depending on the player and the situation should determine how much weight you give the past, but it should be taken into consideration - especially when you're facing spring training pitching.
  8. Yes, he did. Yes...he did. I don't remember that, at all. You sure? Ridiculous, obviously. I remember it too. Not sure where I'd find links, but I'm almost positive he brought it up. That would have been incredibly dumb.
  9. He doesn't seem to fit DeWitt's profile. Honestly, I think he does. Great player development, good at mixing vets with young players. But I do think this means that he is just done as a GM in the league. Yeah, I'd hate to see him go to St.Louis...he's almost been as successful as Jockety...you guys need somebody bad...really, really bad. I'd take John Schuerholz over Walt Jocketty every day of the week and twice on Sunday. He's a much better GM than Jocketty.
  10. I wouldn't hate Kendall as a backup to Soto if the price was right. I'd be fine with that too, but if Blanco doesn't retire, he's the backup almost by default I'd say.
  11. You had a very valid point. A+ for critical reading. Its just something I've noticed about the way Rosenthal talks. He always says "look for". Yeah, I think I remember hearing him say it, but for some reason it's never really hit me til I read that article. Thanks for the high grade though. I didn't get many of those in school. :D
  12. Does that mean the McLeod kid (walk on freshman) will get the start those games? Or will Dorrell pull the kid off redshirt? There's talk that Cowan might be ready for the Cal game (bye this weekend) but I don't think it's likely. Right now there's basically an open competition between the walk-on McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Osaar Rasshan (a spread/option QB who was converted to WR this season and is now back at QB) and Chris Forcier (the kid who's redshirting). So far none have distinguished themselves; I think we'll see Bethel-Thompson and Rasshan split duties against Cal. I would think Dorrell will keep the redshirt on Forcier since Cowan should be ready for any game after the Cal game. Seems to make sense. Can Rasshan throw the football with any skill at all? If he's even scholarship, seems like he'd be better than Bethel-Thompson. He should be better. He's an avg passer - not great accuracy but he does have a very strong arm (he was up to 96 mph as a pitcher in HS). His ticket is his athleticisim and ability to run. I hope he gets all the playing time if Cowan can't start. He sounds pretty good if Dorrell is willing to run a spread option type offense when he's in. Certainly better than Bethel-Thompson I'd say.
  13. Looks like it's possible that it's what Rosenthal think the Cubs should do. Rosenthal's the best when it comes to breaking stories, but he's still a national media presence, so he's still an idiot when it comes to knowing what makes a good player. I don't know that he's necessarily saying what should happen, but it does seem like closer to pure speculation (or an educated guess of some type) than actually have inside information. The key phrase to me is "Look for". Most of the time that seems to be followed with speculation. I could be wrong, but it's possible I'm right, at least. Having watched and read Rosenthal a ton this year, I can say that most of his sentences start with "look for" and then they become true. Oh well, so much for that idea. I haven't read a lot of Rosenthal's articles and hadn't noticed that he begins what he says in interviews with "Look for" so I didn't realize he used it a lot. I've seen in other articles it used to begin a speculatory story though.
  14. Good news! I really hope Rosenthal was wrong and Bruce was right.

  18. It looks to me like one of the KSU OL is blocking another KSU OL. ... It really does look like 63 and the guy to his right are blocking a third K-State lineman to open a hole for the Kansas defender. Weird.
  19. FYI, Ken Rosenthal isn't just "some writer". I can't remember the last time he was wrong and pretty much all season long hes scooped everybody to every story. I pray to Len hes wrong, but Ken deserves all the credibility in the world. Well, I guess he's due then. :)
  20. Really? They couldn't? Alfonseca, Perez, Blanco, Rusch There's plenty of reason to think they, or more specifically Jim Hendry, would be this stupid. Trachsel's option is for like twice as much as those guys'. Hendry wasn't dumb enough to keep Izturis at that rate (I think his option was 4.15M or something for 08) and I can't believe he'll be dumb enough to keep Trachsel. Don't use Izturis as an example. Only if Izturis was still on the team would it be a relevant example. Credit Lou for this one. I wonder how well Lou would go along with Trachsel coming back. There's a distinct reason Lou quit using Trachsel after a few bad starts and I have a feeling Lou won't fell comfortable with Steve for a full season. Hendry may well want him back, but I have to think Lou would be against it and, thus, overrule the decision.
  21. That offensive line looks more like one from NCAA 08 than real life. That's pitiful.
  22. Meh. Let him go. I wouldn't be bothered by it if he wasn't back next year. He was a step above Dusty, but wasn't that great IMO. i could go either way on that. i thought Lou was fine (slightly better than I expected). it really just depends on who they would bring in to replace him. that's what i would be afraid of more than losing Lou. probably Girardi, which I wouldn't really be a fan of. Well, in Girardi's defense he had those youngsters playing better than they did this year. They couldn't wait to get rid of him -- for what, so they could post a 70-win season and sink to Expos-type-lows in attendance? I don't think Girardi's that bad. I find it more likely the Marlins are just a junky organization. While I think it's unlikely that Lou would leave for NY, I would think the replacement for him should it happen ought to be Torre. I'd be ok with Girardi, but I haven't really seen much I dislike from Torre (granted I've only seen his Yankee days). He's obviously won quite a bit while keeping quite a few huge egos mostly in check and, more importantly, has overseen the development of many youngsters and highly patient hitters. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Torre here if (and again, I doubt the likelihood) Lou heads to the Bronx.
  23. That something was John David Booty and his 4 interceptions against the vaunted Stanford D. Excellent point Raisin. Booty looked truly awful Saturday. I really think he's playing himself out of definitely a high draft pick, if not a first rounder altogether. Booty played majority of Stanford game with broken finger Cut the guy some slack. I didn't know that, thanks. I wonder how much more a broken middle finger affects a QB than a broken pinky? I know both are substantial, but Erik Ainge hasn't looked even remotely close to that bad and he's had a broken pinky all season. A broken middle finger is definitely a good explanation as to why he was so awful against Stanford. Apparently all 4 picks came after the broken finger....and it is Stanford...so I think it played a big role. I have no doubt it played a very large role. I was just thinking about how much more a broken middle finger would affect a QB than a broken pinky. I honestly have no idea.

  25. LSU is strong and possibly the most balanced but they have to play the rest of the SEC plus that championship game of yours. I haven't seen them play from behind but it does seem they can pass if they are behind. But, I thought that about USC too. Except for the SEC stuff that is! Yeah, I'm not saying they won't lose a game this year, just that they look to be the strongest team out there this year on paper. I like the Flynn/Perilloux mix, though anytime you run a two-QB system there's a strong chance of it blowing up in your face. Hopefully, they'll stay unbeaten until the championship game you hate so much and Tennessee can take them out. 8-) Disclaimer - obviously I'm joking about UT, I have little faith the Vols have the personnel to beat LSU this year and am not sure we'll even make the title game as is. But, we control our own destiny.
