I'm not rooting for or against either sully. I think that this game is a perfect opportunity for Iowa to win, if they aren't already mailing in the season. It could just as easily be a 37-10 Illinois win. I didn't see the Wisconsin guys complain before when I wrote that Illinois could beat their team. You still arent answering how Sully was being over confident in his post. He laid it out how Iowa would have to play to beat the Illini this week, and then you come in saying "thats the over confidence you are counting on". Please show where the over confidence was, because your statement really made no sense. "Shoving the ball and wearing them out". If these things are not executed then they will have a problem. The over confidence part of it is thinking this way but if you fail to do as you as you are used too, you doubt yourself and that's when you were over confident and not truly ready. Sure, it could easily be a trap game for Illinois. Plus, I just have this feeling that these Big 10 teams are very, very similar -- all are flawed, they beat up on each other all year, none of them scream "national champs!" to me. I think it's quite possible Iowa could suprise the Illini. I don't think it should offend an Illini fan to say that. They need to be ready for the letdown, that's all. I think that could be said of every conference this year. I think the teams that can play well in every area have a chance to go to the BCS game. Ohio State reminds me of the team that they had that won the championship a few years ago. Tough D and decent enough offense. I honestly think LSU may be the only team out there without a major flaw. USC doesn't have an apparent one, but something made them lose to Stanford ( I can't say that enough, Stanford beat USC  ). LSU struggled against Florida, but watching the game I didn't see any major flaw in their game. That something was John David Booty and his 4 interceptions against the vaunted Stanford D. Excellent point Raisin. Booty looked truly awful Saturday. I really think he's playing himself out of definitely a high draft pick, if not a first rounder altogether.

Tennessee's currently got 4 scholarship QBs on the roster - though one is redshirting. Back in the late 90s Burney Veazey was the third string QB behind Peyton and Tee Martin. I don't think he was scholarship (not positive though).

Tennessee's back in the top 25! College football has just revived itself to me! :D Anyway, Mississippi State on the road won't be an easy win, but it's one we should pick up. After that, Alabama and South Carolina will be very good tests for this team again. Nice feeling to control our own destiny in the East again. Thank you LSU and Auburn. :D

NSBB was around back then but the game threads were in Baseball Discussions back then. Those Karros v Choi and Estes v Cruz debates were fun. :D By the way, do you or anyone know the record for the longest game thread in NSBB history? This, or another this postseason, may surpass it. Don't know what the record is but some of the game threads in 2004 were around 100 non-Premium pages so the recent ones this season might have topped them. Hmmm, seems like there should be an official NSBB record book or something. Maybe something integrated into the Hall of Fame posts idea? I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if you and Tomy are right about these late season threads and now the postseason ones being the longest ever.

Santo's quite good, but I also like the Bill Murray idea. Maybe rotate between Murray, Santo and Len (shame Bob can't do it). -
Kodi Burns is extremely fast and has a strong arm, but I believe he may suffer from Michael Vick's disease...below average passing accuracy. He is a true freshman, and he's only played a handful of snaps, so I can't really judge just yet. If he's able to read defenses and throw with any accuracy, he's going to be very good. When one considers their youth this year, one would think Auburn would be better next season also. Yeah, I like Burns, but suspect it's likely he'll suffer from bad accuracy. Most highly mobile QBs like Burns do, Pat White, Vick, Stephen McGee, Matt Jones and Vince Young are just a few examples. Vince is actually one of the better pure passers of the mobile QBs that have come out recently. I keep drawing comparisons to Steve McNair with Vince, but that's honestly what he is. A mobile QB with good upside throwing the football. Needs some work now, but I'm optimistic he'll put it together relatively soon. It's too early to tell one way or the other what Burns will be, but if he's more in their mold, he'll be a great one. Do you think Tuberville would be open to shifting his offense to more of an option-type when Burns takes over? If he does have poor accuracy, that would help him in college immensely.

So long as there are polls, there will be a preference toward the big names. But, North Carolina is slightly better than terrible because they have Butch Davis. I agree that Davis will make them better. They are competiteve, except for a 37-10 at the hands of SFlor. Speaking of states with talent, I wonder where all the NC kids have gone of late? No NC team has been that good lately and the ACC teams haven't really shined in the past few years either. I know Tennessee's grabbed a few, I'd say Georgia and South Carolina have gotten a few others. From here on out, though, I think NC kids will be staying home for the most part. One of Davis' strong points is his recruiting ability and I think that'll help him turn UNC around fairly quick.

Well I'm sure they are still screaming and going crazy when you lose, only it's at Fulmer instead! Very true my friend. Sad, but true.

The NFL's still got college football beat in my mind. The Titans are inspiring far more confidence than the Vols right now. I'll take college football in a micro second and my team is terrible. 2nd. College football is my favorite sport pretty easily, with baseball 2nd and the NFL a distant third. Generally, college football is my favorite sport, but it's hard not to get excited about what the Titans are doing. I'm sure they'll hit a lull at some point this year and the Vols will pick things back up. I like college football, but the NFL is the best thing out there IMO. For me, it doesn't get better than 100,000 + fans screaming and going crazy each and every play. Of course, when Tennessee is struggling, the atmosphere isn't nearly as good...

agree on both items...it's amazing how quickly South Florida became a strong program. They have a plethora of talent in Florida. Add to that the Florida St and Miami struggles...plus the overrated kids that go to the Big 3...and the chance to play right away and you have a nice little program. Central Florida is pretty good too. One of the best things Central Florida ever did was hire George O'Leary to coach them. He's a very good coach and I had a feeling they'd get much better under him. I agree and if he stays just add another pain in the neck Florida team onto the scene. He was a HS coach here at Liverpool and had Tim Green on his team. As much talent as there is in Florida, I wonder if it's possible to dry up the flow? If South Florida and Central Florida continue to improve, Florida State and Miami turn things around and Florida continues it's current level, I wonder if there'll be enough recruits even for a talent-rich state like Florida. Especially with teams like Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee taking a few players out a year. Some of the big dogs may start to trend down if USF and UCF (not to mention FAU with Howard Schnellenberger) continue to improve.

Fiver, I want to thank you and your team for reviving college football for me. With Florida's loss, Tennessee has a much undeserved second chance to win the East and take a shot at the impossible (beating LSU). I am indebted to Auburn until the next time ya'll beat Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. :D I wonder if Auburn playing a very tough schedule had a part to do with this? They did match up well against Florida. Dew, Do you know when Auburn and Tennessee resume their series? That's always a fun game too. We pick ya'll back up next year. We get UAB, UCLA, Florida and then Auburn fourth. It ought to be a good game. Auburn should be starting Kodi Burns and Tennessee should be improved everywhere but QB (Jonathon Crompton's no slouch though). I'm looking forward to it.

This is how I see it too. He's been the one in charge when they've started to be successful, I have to think he'll be given enough of the credit to keep his job at least one more year. I think next year will be make or break for him, though. They need to make the playoffs after the way they played this year for him to be safe.

That's a signal that some of the AP people didn't really watch some of the games either. To have 20 voters change their mind on LSU-USC based on yesterday's games? I don't see it. I watched USC look really bad, but LSU looked pretty bad themselves yesterday. I really like the jump to #6 for South Florida though. For what they've done so far, they deserve that ranking for now. While I'm quite sure you're right that some of the AP people didn't watch all the games, in defense of LSU jumping USC - LSU looked bad for a half, USC looked bad an entire game. The difference between Washington and Tulane is massive though. Washington has beaten Syracuse and Boise State while losing to USC, UCLA, and blown out by Ohio State in the second half. Tulane has gotten blown out by Mississippi State, blown out by Houston, and beaten Southeastern Louisiana. I agree. There's no comparison between competition, but Washington is a team USC should have blown out and didn't while LSU blew out Tulane. Odd reasoning? Yes, but that's the problem with polls. Pollsters use this reasoning.
