  1. I don't see myself as an SEC homer, and I don't think the SEC is the greatest conference in history - it's not even that much better than any other conference out there. But, the reason it's perceived to be a whole lot better, in my opinion, is because the expected top teams in the SEC haven't had any real close non-conference games. The Big Ten has seen Michigan and Wisconsin fall badly, the Big East lost Louisville badly, and the Big XII wasn't helped by Texas barely squeaking by UCF and Arkansas State (who Tennessee beat handily). The Pac-10 has probably been the least maligned by most (other than the SEC) and it's only had UCLA lose badly outside the conference. In the SEC, though, all the big upsets have been in conference. Tennessee has lost all its games in the SEC or to a top national team, Florida's losses have come in the SEC, LSU lost an SEC game. The only major SEC teams to lose or nearly lose to a perceived bad non-conference opponent are South Carolina (thought to be middle of the road SEC barely beat UNC) and Auburn (one of the better SEC teams lost to what turned out to be a very good USF team). Simply put, the other conferences have had perceived top teams fall to mediocre or worse non-conference opponents, the SEC has yet to have that. who did Wisconsin lose to out of conference? My bad, as Meph pointed out, Wisconsin didn't lose out of conference badly, but they had horribly close games against the Citadel and UNLV. Couple those with the in-conference losses and you have the Badgers nearly out of the top 25.

  3. Yep, the game winning field goal was his 8th, breaking the record of 7 all-time in an NFL game. (Not sure if you were being sarcastic since the announcers talked about it so much. Figured I'd answer seriously. :D ) Yeah, CBS didn't switch to that game here (stupid Chiefs) so I was keeping up on gamecast. Thanks. That sucks. I'd be pissed.

  5. Incredible, incredible job by Kerry Collins on that final drive. He made some terrific throws and found the open guy every time. Roydell Williams made a terrific catch over the Texans' best (without question) defensive back Dunta Robinson and Rob Bironas made an incredibly clutch (I know that word is hated here, but still) field goal to salvage the win. Titans looked like a young team out there relaxing after taking a big lead and allowing a quality football team to get back in it, but the veteran Collins led us back - throwing to more youth. Great game, good ending. And, very good job by the Texans of fighting back when it looked sure that they were done.
  6. I agree this isn't yet running up the score. I tend to fall in line with CCP in saying that it's not running up the score unless they're doing this in the fourth quarter with a similar margin. My original post was primarily saying that if/when Belichick decides to run up the score in a game, I'll be torn.
  7. Yea thanks Miami, could you at least try playing some kind of D? Nah, if Miami's not going to win I need some passing TD's from Brady. Oh dont worry you will get them. Its not like Belichek has any class and will stop passing the ball. Hell they were up 35-7 and still passing. I hate Belichek and Brady sooo much. Having Brady presents an interesting problem for me: I absolutely despise teams who run up the score, but the Pats doing it with Brady helps me. I get confused sometimes. :? This isn't pee-wee football. You wanna keep throwing the football? Put in the backups and it's all good. It's not a matter of this not being pee-wee football, it's a matter of class. Class? Aren't you supposed to score as many points as possible? They are just running their offense. These aren't kids, these are grown men who are professional athletes. If you want to keep them from scoring, stop them. I don't care about anybody's feelings, it's not about feeling good. But, if you've clearly won the game - as the Pats have - there's no reason to show up your opponents and risk injury to your own starters by looking to run the score up. Let me say this again, bolded this time since you apparently missed it the first time. You wanna keep throwing the football? Put in the backups and it's all good. Even if you don't care about respect and class, it's simply smart football not to risk a needless injury to Brady, Moss, Stallworth, etc. I didn't miss anything. You were the one who brought up class, not me. If you feel that keeping starters in because they might get hurt is risky and stupid, well that's a different thing all together. Crying about running up the score because it isn't "classy" is a little silly, when it comes to the NFL. I brought up class because I value class and respect in sports fairly highly. For those who don't feel class is relevant, the risk of injury should keep them from running up the score. For coaches like Belichick, Steve Spurrier, etc., neither matter much.

  10. The Titans have 20:37 time of possession after the first half. Wow. Kerry Collins is doing decent so far. He'd likely lose us more than we win at QB, but I guess I'm ok with him playing once or twice a year.

  13. Kerry Collins isn't doing too bad so far in place of Vince, but that man can not move. He can't even shift around in the pocket. Must be a dream for pass rushers.
  14. :( :x
  15. Vandy beat South Carolina 17-6. This means if Kentucky can beat Florida, Tennessee still has a shot at the East title. We just have to make sure today is the last time terrible Tennessee shows up.
  16. The Tennessee team that played Cal and Florida is back. Defense hasn't done a dang thing against Bama's defense and the offense has looked pitiful the last three drives. If the current score holds, it'll be an extremely dissapointing loss.
  17. It's a good thing they didn't, they'd be broadcasting from an empty stadium. Tennessee's playing Bama in Tuscaloosa today. :D That don't matter, they don't know where Lexington is, before today. This is a good point.

  19. I know. Just wanted to cut him off before he started bragging.
  20. I've been saying that S. Florida was overrated for a few weeks now. They beat an Auburn team that was severely struggling at the QB, OL, and RB positions earlier this year, and they beat a West Virinia team that was also a bit overrated and without a healthy starting QB. So just Big East teams are overrated? We'll see how over rated they are when they play one of the great teams of the SEC today. Let's not forget that Louisville had Kentucky beat at Kentucky until the last minute but I'm sure that was because they were so much better. Sorry, sometimes I forget how the SEC mind works. Mississippi State is far from a "great" SEC team. They're one of the worst in the SEC. There's no reason why West Virginia - if they're one of the best in the Big East - shouldn't blow the Bulldogs out.
  21. It'll probably be USC again. I'd say it's pretty well guaranteed that Florida will be in the top 3 though.
  22. Dead Kennedys song!!! I know it as a Johnny Paycheck song. David Allan Coe did a great version too. Paycheck's was the best and the original, though.
  23. Illinois is a young team - they'll have their great games and awful games. If the Illini come out with a bad game against Michigan, they'll have all kinds of trouble winning. If they play well, though, I'm not sure Michigan has the personnel to stop a good spread offense like the Illini have.
  24. Based on what? And as long as teams keep trying to shut down Rice and making Rutgers QB beat them, opposing teams are going to have success against Rutgers. Based on Michigan playing like a top ten team the last five weeks. That spread offense of Illinois' will be an issue for Michigan. When they've played spread offenses (Appy State and Oregon) they've looked terrible. plus michigan didn't exactly look like a premier team when they struggled with northwestern and eastern michigan They've got terrific talent, but they're horribly inconsistent. I have trouble expecting them to play well and they'll have to against Illinois.
