  1. Pretty much all the arguments you made could have been said (and were said) when Vince Young entered the draft. I don't disagree with a lot of your arguments, I'm generally a big fan of mobile QBs. But I've seen first hand how hard it can be for a QB who has never had to read defenses before to start doing it at the NFL level. I like Newton's upside a lot, but I wouldn't consider taking him if I needed a QB to step on the field immediately. If I'm a team with a stable, older QB and I can afford to groom Newton for 2-3 years, I take him. But if I'm looking for a QB to come in and start immediately, I go with Luck/Mallett first without much thought.
  2. That's true. Guess I'm just not a big believer in bottom feeders beating top end teams being a sign that a conference is really good.
  3. Yeah, so many people have trumpeted the Pac-10 as great this year (and I was on board for a while), but outside of Oregon and Stanford, they aren't that impressive. USC is ok, Arizona is decent, but I haven't seen much to like about the rest of the conference. That said, wins over Mississippi State, Clemson and Georgia aren't wins to be trumpeted either. What is it about the Pac-10 that Sagarin likes so much, I wonder?
  4. Any team would be crazy to give Webb that. I don't think the guy deserves more than 1 mil plus incentives. I can understand why they would ask for that though. Sheets got 10 million last year in a somewhat similar situation. And if he returns to his pre-injury form, he'll be worth well more than the $7.5 he'd be making.
  5. I still don't know what to think about KC. Excellent coordinators, but I still question just how good the actual talent is. I think the Weiss/Crennel duo are helping them play over their heads, perhaps by quite a bit. Interestingly enough, even though Kansas City is 3 games better than us record-wise, they have a +41 point differential and we have a +40 point differential. We can win this game if we play like we did Sunday and the first 7 weeks of the year. I have no confidence that either the Colts or Jags will lose, though. We need both to and I don't think either will.
  6. He has a top notch name period. Fausto Carmona is just a cool name.
  7. Nice. I hadn't even thought about common opponents as a tiebreaker when I was figuring it out originally. I figured it'd go head-to-head, division and conference record – in that order.
  8. I'd probably pick both Luck and Mallett over Newton. Both Luck and Mallett have run more of a pro-style offense than Newton has, making their transition to an NFL offense much easier. I like Newton a lot, though. I just like Mallett and Luck more.
  9. The Colts will lose in Oakland, don't worry. I doubt it, but hopefully McFadden will have one of those monster days Sunday. I'm not real confident that the imploding (too soft a word?) Redskins will beat the Jags either. The Texans can beat Jacksonville, though.
  10. I didn't think about common opponents. I guess that's where the Titans would have the advantage? Because we'd be tied in division record and would have the worst conference record of the three.
  11. Yeah, you'd have flat out demolished me then, even with my guys putting up a pretty good score overall. Good luck fighting for the title! You may have a stay of execution. Favre has been upgraded to questionable, and if he does play tonight I'll be counting on Forte and Olsen (whom I'd swap in for Webb at the flex position) to combine for 10 points. And while I think they'd likely do it, I wouldn't call it a given. With as high scoring as the league tends to be, I'd fully expect them to get 10 points. I just hope the weather conditions hold them down.
  12. Tennessee is still alive? That's awesome. I'll be rooting for that scenario just for kicks. If either the Colts or Jags win another game, we're out. Even then, I'm not 100% certain that we'd win the tiebreakers over the Colts and Jags if they both lose out. The scenario where the Titans win out and the Colts and Jags lose out has all three teams at 8-8. Actually, on second thought, I think we'd lose the tiebreaker even in that scenario. I believe the Titans/Jags/Colts would all be 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the division and would each have split head-to-head matchups. However, the Jags would be 7-5 in the AFC, Indy would be 6-6 and Tennessee would be 5-7. So I think the Titans are eliminated no matter what we do.
  13. He also mortgaged the future in the process, though. And the Marcum trade was pretty bad.
  14. If Hendry moves Silva or he's put in the pen, those kids may get that opportunity even if we make a move. Right now the rotation looks like this: Demp Z Wells Silva Cash/Gorz/JJax We already know Hendry is trying to deal Gorzelanny, and even if we sign Webb or trade for Garza, another spot could open for one of the kids with a Silva trade/move to the pen.
  15. Good win for the Titans yesterday, I guess. That's the best we've looked since we were 5-2. Now, we need the Colts and Jags to lose next week, the Jags to lose in two weeks and then the Indy/Tennessee game in 2 weeks would be for the division. I really hope that happens, because that'd be a really fun game to watch.
  16. I noticed that yesterday. That's really weird.
  17. He's being fired but will coach in the bowl game, apparently. Yeah, basically they told him not to come back next year it sounds like. I don't know if that'll keep them from announcing Leach today or not, but all the rumors point to Leach being their next coach.
  18. Maryland has a 3 p.m. press conference scheduled for today. It could be their announcement that Friedgen is out and Leach is in. If so, very good hire by them.
  19. Yeah, you'd have flat out demolished me then, even with my guys putting up a pretty good score overall. Good luck fighting for the title!
  20. That's crazy, if true. It's unfortunate, too, because I think Wilcox is a really good DC. I figure Lance Thompson will be promoted at this point, unless Dooley goes after Randy Shannon or something.
  21. Good job NC. I'm pulling for snow and ice in Minny to grind the offenses to a hault, but I really don't see much likelihood that Forte and Webb will manage less than 10 points. At least we both had good weeks and neither of our teams forgot to score points. Makes losing feel a lot better.
  22. Yeah, you still need to divide it by the total number of plate appearances in baseball over those two seasons. Yeah, that occurred to me later, but I didn't take the math too seriously at the time. I'm terrible at math anyway (part of why I'm not better at analyzing and figuring out advanced stats).
  23. I'm still hoping the Titans take a QB in the draft (Mallett would be really nice, if we lose out then Luck might be a possibility). However, I still think Bud will hang onto Vince and dump Fisher, which means I have no idea where the Titans will go in the draft. It all depends on the new coach and his schemes.
  24. Well that sucks, if true. I'd really rather not see significant staff turnover like losing the DC again this season. That said, I think Chuck Smith is a good asset as well.
  25. Hahahaha. He's much better and younger but if you forget his best season for some [expletive] season maybe you can pretend he isn't. Good analysis. He's pretty young and very good, but would we consider him to be an elite ace if not for that one season in 2009? My question is, given everything he's done prior to that season and since it, is anything close to that season repeatable? If not, then I don't see any difference between him and Dempster (outside of age, obviously). And I wouldn't trade 3 of my top 10 prospects for Dempster at age 27. And I'm not saying you should ignore his best season, I'm saying there's a really good chance it's a career year and that's not the type of pitcher he is.
