Bray did the throat slash more than once? Hadn't heard that. I'd be fine with a throat slash getting a 15 yard penalty, but that salute shouldn't have gotten anything.

ESPN Haha. Ironically enough, that's where I read that Favre was taking daily tests to get clearance to play on Sunday. You win. The Vikings would be far better off going with Joe Webb and seeing what they've got. But they would have been better off going with Tarvaris a month ago and they didn't, so who knows.

Haha. I bet they feel like John McClane. "How can the same [expletive] happen to the same guy twice?" That was my first thought during UNC's scramble to the line after the running play – could we possibly have an ending like the LSU game. I didn't believe it would happen again, but sure enough it did.

There's a simple answer to that – don't make a call that doesn't need to be made. What was the good in the ref coming out and announcing the game is over when there was still doubt? and what harm was there in saying the game was over and then saying, no we have to review it? Even if you disagree with that, it's poor reffing to make a bad call when no call needs to be made.

Where did I say that? I'm annoyed because they made the wrong call (announcing the game was over) when they didn't need to call anything at all until they determined there would be a replay. I've already said it was correct to put a second back on the clock, but don't announce the game's over when it's not.

The Tennessee players were celebrating because the head referee announced the game was over. Then he waited a while and then came back and decided it wasn't over after all. From all indications it was correct to put a second back on the clock, but the ref announcing the game was over was needless and if it had an impact (which I think it clearly did) it was a negative one.

You may be right. Like I said, I couldn't watch the game, but the radio guys didn't indicate late hits on that drive. We definitely gave that game away, there's no doubt about that. What bothers me is refs making needless incorrect calls when the better move is to make no call until you know what's going on. Whether you believe in momentum, emotion, etc, impacting games or not, there was still no reason to make that call at that time and if it had any impact, it was a negative one.

It probably happened about the same time a team has been announced the winner twice in a season just to have the refs decide the game isn't really over.

It's accurate. The ref announced the game was over and the players began to celebrate. They relaxed and then all of a sudden, because of the erroneous call, they had to refocus. Emotion took over from that point on and North Carolina had every bit of the momentum. Sure, we collapsed on that final drive and that's on the players. But the refs had a negative impact on the game and that's a shame for as great a game as it was.

I didn't see the game so I can't argue whether there were calls that should have been made, but what play are you talking about? The radio guys didn't indicate there were any calls that should have been made as far as cheap shots and even made the point that one replay on the 15-yarder called on Janzen Jackson was actually a blow to the shoulder pad and not the helmet, as was called.

They were correct in reviewing it, but should not have announced the game was over – because it wasn't. oh come on. what the hell difference does that make? is that "game over" proclamation binding or something? It should be. Refs shouldn't just be announcing the game is over when it isn't. If there's any question, don't make the announcement.

Should have made that a 48 yarder. Wow, looks like they botched that even worse than I originally thought. Just terrible.

And the interception will probably lose the game for us. Refs need to figure out what to do at the end of games. There's no reason why two games for us this season should have been declared wins and then reversed. That's incredibly stupid.

I never knew that. That's dumb too, to be honest. Touchdown Tennessee!!! Eh, prevented the game from ending on a penalty, which would have been a really crappy ending to a good game. Like the earlier Dallas/Washington game? If you're going to have the 10 second runoff, you should do it for all offensive penalties.
