  1. If alumni and boosters are clamoring for a "Michigan man" there's a really good chance that's where they're looking. They piss off the boosters and alumni with the hire, they lose donations.
  2. Vandy would definitely have a shot at getting to 10 wins in the MAC. It depends on the Vandy team probably. The Cutler/Bennett Vandy teams might have had a chance to go undefeated in the MAC (as it is today) or Sun Belt. Last year's Vandy team probably doesn't win 5 MAC or Sun Belt games. The problem with getting to 10 wins, though, is they still have to play non-con games. There's no BCS conference Vandy could have won 10 games in. Maybe, just maybe the Cutler/Bennett Commodores could have won more conference games than they lost in this year's Big East.
  3. Les has made a lot of game management mistakes the last few years, and I think he has lost some of the prestige, respect he commanded after LSU's last national championship. I don't think Michigan will offer him the job. What other options do they have? Harbaugh appears to not be going there and they've narrowed themselves to just "Michigan men" apparently. As others have said, that's basically Les Miles and Brady Hoke at this point. Hoke might be the better hire (or may not be), but Les is by far the bigger name and the more prestigious hire. I could easily see them offering him, if for lack of better options if nothing else.
  4. Why on Earth would anyone have interest in him as a head coach right now? He was an absolute trainwreck in almost every way. I could see them having interest in him as a coach, but not wanting to give him power over personnel as he had in Denver. And to be honest, if he had just been brought in has head coach at Denver, it's entirely possible he'd have had a lot more success.
  5. In thinking about places Vince could go next, is there a chance he could go to the one organization that looks only at measureables when looking at players? I realize Al Davis has Campbell and Gradkowski already, but could Vince's measureables and big name sway him to bring VY to Oakland?
  6. Thanks. I wouldn't dislike the Kolb option at all, but if a new CBA agreement puts a rookie cap on the incoming class then getting a slightly younger QB is a bit more appealing. I'm actually not that much more convinced Kolb can be a good NFL QB than a number of the guys in the draft - and I think some have a higher upside.
  7. That's entirely possible, and Kolb is the popular name for the Titans to pursue if Fisher/Reinfeldt don't draft a QB. I don't know that the Eagles trade Kolb for a backup QB, though, especially if being a backup would make Vince mad. If the pick is high enough, however, they may consider it. Personally, I'm torn on the idea. On one hand, Kolb is a bit more of a proven commodity than a draftee, but he's already spent a few years in a west coast offense and would have to adjust to the Dinger system in Nashville. I don't know the contract details for him, but I'd bet his rookie contract is just about up too.
  8. Where would he get ABs with us? I think he's being sarcastic.
  9. Schefter:
  10. I'm feeling much more comfortable now.
  11. With Miami, it depends on how open to a mobile QB Sparano would be. If they make a change to Cowher or Harbaugh, I don't think Vince would fit with them at all, but he might with Sparano. Of course, Pat White never saw the field there. The Vikings are a definite possibility, as the backups (Tarvaris if he returns and Joe Webb) are also mobile QBs and the offense wouldn't have to be adjusted should injury occur. San Francisco might be a good spot depending on who they hire. Good talent around him, doesn't seem like a huge pressure situation and having a really good RB in Frank Gore would help. If a starting gig doesn't open immediately, I wonder if the Eagles would be a good backup spot? I'd bet they're likely to deal Kolb and will need a backup, Vince could benefit by playing behind Vick for a year or two I think.
  12. Memphis might be the 5th best team in CUSA this year. If Tennessee can't win this, they may go winless in the SEC. We did manage to lose to College of Charleston and Charlotte. This is a weird team.
  13. I'm still not comfortable that we'll win this thing.
  14. We have roughly 17 Omar Infantes for league minimum in our system. That trade pissed me off so much None of them were named to the All-Star game or batted .300 at the MLB level.
  15. There's plenty of football reasons to think Tebow can be a good NFL quarterback. There's plenty to think he won't as well, which is what made taking him in the first round such an odd decision, but he definitely can be a good NFL QB.
  16. Fisher returning is the likely case at this point, though Bud has said he's still evaluating the coaching staff and could make further changes. My guess is, with Vince gone, Fisher and Bud will compromise. A couple coaching staff changes are almost definitely in the works, though (Chuck Cecil especially). I'm really surprised by this. As anybody who pays attention to my Titans ramblings on here, I really didn't think Bud would let Vince go. It's a good move, though, as it was blatantly clear it wasn't going to work with a Fisher/Vince duo. The flood of opinions probably helped, as Titans VP Steve Underwood, GM Mike Reinfeldt and former coaches Jerry Glanville and Bum Phillips all met with Bud and told him to keep Fisher and cut Vince. Titans PBP guy Mike Keith said today that if Fisher returns, Kerry Collins will as well, as a backup. So my hope is we bring Kerry back and focus on a QB in the draft - my early preferences being Gabbert, Mallett and Locker (primarily Gabbert). I also think (and hope) this works out better for Vince too. He no longer has Bud to fall back on and now can go to a team with a coach who believes in him and didn't have him forced on him. Vince clearly has a ton of talent, so hopefully he'll fulfill it wherever he plays next.
  17. It's going to be hilarious when Hue goes to the Niners. I'm actually half hoping it happens just because I'm sure it would piss Al Davis off. I can't wait for the Raiders to revert back to their old ways and go 4-12 next year. Any chance Al just decides to coach the team himself?
  18. Al may have to fight for Hue:
  19. For Andy:
  20. What does Demp need to bounce back from? 3.85 ERA/3.89 xFIP/1.32 WHIP are all right in line with his Cub career. Yeah, I don't what people expect, but Dempster has actually been pretty good. I never expected him to post a 2.95 ERA again. Yeah, he got some luck that year – his xFIP was in the 3.71 area. He's a really good starter, though.
  21. He's actually 27 (turned it in November) and will cost upward of $5-6 million next year. His xFIPs have been worse than Wells' as well. He could definitely improve and was once a top prospect, but I don't know that I want to give out one of our top prospects, along with three others, and pay $5 million to hope a guy improves by switching leagues, while also hoping he can adjust to having a weaker defense than he's had his entire career.

  23. I know for a lot of Tennessee fans, they expect the program to consistently be what it was in the '90s and don't realize (or accept) that the entirety of the NCAA has gotten far more competitive in just the past decade. Extreme dominance and quick fixes are not the norm, even for elite programs, at this point. The dominance Florida has enjoyed (w/the Tebow/Meyer duo) and the quick turnaround at Bama under Saban has convinced Tennessee fans that we can do that too, but those two schools are the extreme exception because of the coaches they found and the recruiting base they have. It used to work like that all the time that a name school and a name coach could fix a program quickly, but that's simply not the case anymore. That misperception has led to numerous poor firings, including this one.
  24. There have been reports out there that Elway was planning to discuss the Bronco opening with Harbaugh after the game and that the Broncos were planning to interview Harbaugh. I don't know that him going there has ever been realistic though.
