  1. Like Electron Blue said, there really hasn't been any complaints about the trade. As for Gorz himself, the interest in him is that he's kinda young (28), cheap and had really good minor league numbers. His 9 K/9 last year was a positive as well. He's probably not more than an inconsistent mid-back rotation guy, but he can be pretty serviceable while he's cheap. You don't want to give that up for nothing, but this was a really good trade. Here's an interesting article on Gorz from FanGraphs.
  2. Cashner is a righty. Also, if Carpenter and Jackson are in the discussion, Casey Coleman ought to be as well. And Thomas Diamond. My guess is the likely 5th starter is either Silva (if healthy enough) or Cashner. Russell might have a shot if he pitches really well in spring training, but my guess is it comes down to the first two.
  3. His walk rate would keep him from being a really good pitcher, but if he can maintain the 7-9 K/9 he had the past couple of seasons (183 innings), he'll be better than a 5 ERA pitcher. He doesn't quite have 500 IP in the majors yet, even though he's 28, and his minor league numbers were pretty solid.
  4. The good thing is, we've got plenty of other rotation options that are just as good or better. Z, Demp and Garza are locked in, Wells should be and Cashner and Silva both have the ability to match or exceed what Gorz gave us last year. Coleman/Diamond/JJax could all be serviceable as well. I wasn't in favor of dumping Gorz for nothing, but I have no problem dealing him for good value – which it appears Hendry's done.
  5. Good addition for the Nats, but I hope they gave up too much to get him.
  6. Not bad to turn that into an NFL QB. One of the reasons I liked Cutler in the draft was his mobility.
  7. Sounds really impressive.
  8. Cutler was actually recruited as a safety out of high school. He went to Vandy because the HC at the time (promised he could play QB. He's always been an athletic QB.
  9. Hopefully that's right. Chaney's not a "Power-I" 3 yards and a cloud of dust coordinator, so he won't fit if Miles is looking for that.
  10. I'm rooting for the Steelers, mainly because I believe they're actually a really good team - whereas the Jets are a pretty good team that has received way too much media hype. I don't want to hear about the "greatness" of Mark Sanchez and others. As I said in the other thread, though, I'm rooting for the winner of the NFC championship in the Super Bowl no matter who wins this game.
  11. Exactly my thoughts.
  12. Just like Werth and Crawford were only going to get 80-90 mill. Boras isn't dumb I think there's a really good chance Fielder breaks $20 mil. Somebody will find that much cash for a big name like him, I think. Much more than $20-22 mil is stretching it, though, unless the Yankees win the bidding. And it's not so much lack of desire from other teams to go on up to $25 mil, it's more lack of ability. Boras is really good at what he does, but I don't think it's likely that even he can get Fielder up much past the $20 mil per year area.
  13. Lulz at Fielder getting merely Jayson Werth money. Lulz. Last 4 years fWAR 4.1, 6.9, 2.7, 5.3 = 19.0 5.0, 4.9, 5.1, 3.2 = 18.2 Which one is Fielder and which one is Werth? If he's talking about perception, he's right. Fielder will expect more because he's seen as a star and Werth is not.
  14. How many "really strong" years does Johnny Cueto have? Zero? Maybe one. None, though last year was a very Garza-esque season. The difference between the 7-10 spots in my list are pretty minimal and if you wanted to put Garcia ahead of all of them, I wouldn't argue it. With just the one season, I don't think he jumps Z, Dempster or any of the top four guys. Though he could soon.
  15. I don't think that's the point of his article. I don't really see a problem with the comment. He's a senior at Northwestern, so I'd bet he's heard Cub fans talk about how much better Garza will be with the Cubs and doesn't agree with them. Thus the "optimistic Cub fans" comment.
  16. Yeah, it's a concern but not one that he can't overcome. Much like with Lilly, as long as his stuff is good enough (which I fully believe it is) he just needs to make the right adjustments and he should be fine. I didn't fully agree with the article, but figured it was worth posting.
  17. Anything on the smurf turf is awesome. It really isn't. It's terrible to watch. The unique factor got old a long time ago. I still love it. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm fine with that.
  18. An NFL game in Neyland would be cool.
  19. Anything on the smurf turf is awesome.
  20. NFL on the smurf turf plz. That would be awesome.
  21. Albert Lyu doesn't think Garza's repertoire will translate well to Wrigley.
  22. It should be Fukudome leading off. Obviously it won't be if we trade him or start Colvin over him, but we shouldn't do that.
  23. I thought strongly about putting him higher and might should have. Him only having one really strong year (granted his only full season) kept him lower, but he could jump up my list very quickly if he continues anything like he did last year.
  24. I was making that comment as a reason why this type of analysis is worthless, not a statement of analysis of the difference between Castro and Renteria. I don't think it's necessarily always worthless, but it's certainly not the most scientific way to do things. It's still interesting to read. I was just pointing out that your stated reasoning why it was worthless might be flawed.
  25. Very slight Bruce Miles update on Guzman:
