  1. Very nice move.
  2. You can send him to the Titans if you'd like. we'll need a few draft picks. Name your price. I'd be fine if Bud went Mike Ditka on getting Cutler. Cutler to Britt would be a beautiful sight.
  3. You can send him to the Titans if you'd like.
  4. 4 star TB Marlin Lane commits to Tennessee! Nice addition, now we need Richardson, Clear and Wright.
  5. If they don't get a new CBA done in time, there won't be a FA period before the draft. They'll do the draft either way, but there won't be a period to sign FAs before that draft if no new CBA is hammered out in time. Even if there was one, teams wouldn't want to make any moves of significance because there'd be no idea what a new CBA would bring in terms of salary cap, franchising, etc.
  6. That's the most popular way to classify an in-game injury. I pretty much always hear questionable or doubtful. When Maurkice Pouncey left the Steelers game and it was quite clear he wasn't coming back in (taken off on a cart and hobbling around on crutches) the Steelers announced he was questionable to return. Why they do that I don't know, but it's the popular thing to do.
  7. I can see him in the Brees/Rivers/Rodgers group. I hadn't realized how remarkably good he had been this year. I still put Peyton/Brady ahead of the rest, though.
  8. Maybe I just watch too much ESPN and listen to too much sports talk radio. All I hear about when people talk about Big Ben is how many rings he's won and how it's more than Peyton and the others, so obviously he's better. I've agreed with this from the start.
  9. He's really only had at most 3 elite seasons, though (2007, 2009 and 2010). Peyton's had 7, Brady 4, Rivers 3 and Brees 4. I could see grouping Ben into the Rivers/Brees category, but not quite in the Manning/Brady area yet. He could be close to Brady, but Brady hasn't really had a bad year in his career. He's had a couple of average-above average seasons, but nothing as bad as Ben's 2006. Like I said, one or two more years like he had the previous two years and I have no problem putting him into the top 3-5 of active QBs. I just don't think he's there yet.
  10. If he continues what he's done the past couple of years, I agree. The inconsistency is what keeps him out of that group, though. And Rodgers is close to that group too if he can put together another couple of great years.
  11. I actually hear quite often that he's better than Peyton, Rivers and Brees because he has more rings than them. Pretty much every analyst I hear on TV or radio puts him in the top 5 of active QBs at a minimum and many put him in the top 3. He's very good, but not that good. He's been very up and down in his career, having some terrific years and some fairly average years. For instance, his 2006 and 2008 years were pretty bad, while the past couple of years have been much, much better. He's no higher than the 5th best active QB (behind Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers) and might be a notch or two lower (depending on your thoughts on Rodgers). I'd probably put him 6th.
  12. Most Overrated QB outside of Favre... No. Not even close. He's definitely overrated because people care too much about how many rings he has. Most overrated is questionable, though.
  13. Jones would be a good pickup – if he can catch the ball with any consistency, he has the ability to be a top WR. Jackson's only going to be 28 this year, there's no reason why he can't be very productive again. Holmes/Braylon are both free agents, one may come available. TO is old, but could be productive again – or just his presence could draw some coverage from current WRs. Lance Moore is a non-elite guy who could also at least free up coverage on others a bit. Maurice Stovall, if not re-signed by Tampa, would be interesting as well. He'll only be 26 for the 2011 season and had a big year in 2009. He'd probably be a bargain type pickup who could break out. And that's not counting guys like Rice/Steve Smith (NYG)/Malcolm Floyd who probably won't be available, but could be.
  14. O-line is a better bet to find a guy who will produce next season for sure.
  15. After Green and Jones, I'm not sure there's much in the way of immediate impact guys in the draft. Jon Baldwin probably won't fall and I'm not enamored with a lot of the others. If you're looking for a WR to come in and produce immediately, FA is probably the better way to go. It was supposed to be very deep at WR this year, but several very good underclassmen have decided to return to school for whatever reason. Right. Blackmon and a couple others could have come out, but chose to stay. The depth is pretty decent, but the top end WRs are basically just Green and Jones at this point. And maybe Baldwin if he shows well at the combine.
  16. That's entirely possible. Hopefully this silly controversy dies down quickly and doesn't affect the market for the Bears. Because banking on even a really good rookie WR to be significantly productive is not a very good situation.
  17. I didn't get the end around. It seemed like trying to throw a wrinkle in when one wasn't necessary. The offense was moving moderately well (as well as it had all day) and time was a pretty big factor – a slow developing run that has nearly as much chance to be stopped in the backfield as it has of gaining yardage seems odd, at best.
  18. After Green and Jones, I'm not sure there's much in the way of immediate impact guys in the draft. Jon Baldwin probably won't fall and I'm not enamored with a lot of the others. If you're looking for a WR to come in and produce immediately, FA is probably the better way to go.
  19. Or the Packers. McCarthy did the same thing once or twice, which is even stranger than Lovie doing it.
  20. Whether the result of the play worked or not is (or should be) irrelevant as to whether it was a good idea or not. Chances are very low, unless the Bears' punter is excellent at that sort of thing, that the punt would have been pinned inside the 5. The much more likely route of success was to go for it or kick the field goal. I understand what you're saying that many people wouldn't have questioned it at all if the ball had been saved there, I just still don't think it's the right call even if you do end up pinning them on the 1.
  21. Exactly. Either kick a long field goal (not sure on Gould's range or accuracy on long FGs) or go for it. If you don't convert the 4th down, you're not even giving the Packers much better than average field position. Starting a drive from the 31 isn't really that big of a deal – certainly not like starting from around the 50. It's the safe call, though, which I think is why many head coaches make it. If you go for it there, don't get it and the Packers drive down and score, you're lambasted for not trying to pin them deep. Going with conventional wisdom, even if it's wrong, is the easy thing to do.
  22. Both Lovie and McCarthy passed up long field goals or convertable 4th down chances to punt from the 31-36 yard line range. Made no sense to me at all. When the Bears punted from the 31, they got all of 11 net yards (due to a touchback). How is that worth not either going for points (FG) or going for it?
  23. Yeah, it's no real surprise. Fisher's got one year left on his deal and Bud basically said that he only kept Fisher this year because he didn't want to pay Fisher to sit at home (or coach elsewhere) for a year. What that means is Fisher pretty much has to make a deep playoff run to have a chance to keep his job, I'd say. If an assistant can get more job security elsewhere, he will – which is what Washburn and Johnson did.
  24. Titans apparently interested in Eric Mangini as the new defensive coordinator. That's a fascinating thought, though I would have preferred Wannstedt. We've currently got an exodus of assistants going on, though. Washburn left for Philly (congrats on that one Truffle, he's excellent), QB coach Craig Johnson left for Minny and DC Chuck Cecil won't be retained.
  25. Carpenter has a $15 mil club option for 2012, after that he's a free agent. Wainwright has 2012 and 2013 club options for $9 mil and $12 mil respectively.
