Exactly. More specifically, I was talking about his specific Super Bowl numbers. Even when he plays poorly, he gets credit for "winning" the Super Bowl - even though his defense and running game carried him to the win.

Hey, all that matters is winning. If they won the Super Bowl, he must have been good, even if those pesky little stats disagreed. Right....?

That shouldn't have stopped them from putting in the best, most deserving players. I don't think they did that.

I'm not sure they're luxury type players, considering their replacements aren't as good. But if they are, and if they have those luxury type players stay healthy next year, they'll be even better. That's the point.

Grant's yds/att for his career: 4.4 Jackson's yds/att this year: 3.7 Not a huge difference, but nearly a full yard less per carry isn't insignificant. Plus, consider John Kuhn (3.3 ypc) got more carries than he might have otherwise and that difference gets a little larger. It's not crippling for a team that passes most of the time, but it still hurts. And a guy who, in his second year in the league, caught 55 passes for 676 yards (12.3 ypc) and five touchdowns is a good player to have around – even if he is only luxury. In eight fewer games this year, Finley caught 70 more yards, as many touchdowns and 3 more ypc than Andrew Quarless.

I don't know that much about Gray from a coaching perspective, so I don't know how I feel about Munchak potentially pursuing him. Still wish Fisher would have hired Dave Wannstedt before getting fired.

This is a move I can get behind, if for no other reason than sentimentality. We should continue to have a great line with Munchak and Matthews on the coaching staff, though. What are you hearing in terms in a DC? Nothing yet. I expect Heimerdinger to return as OC, McGinnis as LB coach, Lowry as ST coach, Loggains as QB coach and Robertson as secondary coach. I would expect Matthews to be the offensive line coach should he be hired. No idea on who the DC might be. I don't think McGinnis wants the job and I know Fisher was strongly considering Mangini before he was fired. The hire may still be Mangini, but Munchak may have his own idea. I'm just not sure.

Do they really have any old, key players outside of Driver, Clifton, Wells and Woodson? Grant's only 28 and doesn't have all that much mileage on him. Jennings is just 27.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard people flat out say Ben's stats don't matter – and that they expect his numbers to be bad, because he's not as "pretty" as Peyton and Brady – but that he'll make a few good clutch throws and that's what matters. That's ignoring that a poor overall performance is why you're in that clutch moment in the first place and not up by a decent margin (like the Packers were much of last night).

Most likely that's the case. I don't know if Munchak is a devotee of Fisher's philosophy, but I'm sure he shares many of the same tendencies and preferences. It wouldn't surprise me if Munchak is simply a stopgap hire while the CBA stuff gets worked out and Fisher's contract (along with the rest of the staff) goes off the books. After all that, Bud may look for another coach. Munchak is a long time Oiler/Titan, however, and Bud may be doing what Michigan did – hire the "Houston man" regardless of whether he's the best hire or not.

Yeah, Super Bowl wins are very hard to predict given the one-and-done nature of the playoffs. If they can stay together and healthy, though, I think they have the capability to win multiple titles.

In forgone conclusion news: Not thrilled with the move, but he's probably no more or less of a gamble than a guy like Perry Fewell. And he's better than a failed coach like Mularkey. Don't hate it, don't love it. We'll likely see little to no staff/personnel turnover because of the move.

The biggest thing to me about the Packers this year is the way they were able to overcome injuries. Few teams make it an entire season without injuries, but the Packers got hit extra hard. If they can win the Super Bowl with Grant, Finley and both starting safeties out extended periods and Driver and Woodson out for much of the Super Bowl, what can they do mostly healthy?

I forgot Brown had been on the ballet multiple times too. He, Carter and Andre Reed should all be in, without a doubt. Carter just stands out to me because I consider him to be better than the other two (though that's pretty subjective since they're all pretty close).

I thought his performance was split between the first and second halves. First half, he was pretty terrible. Second half he was much better, but still off on a couple throws. His halftime numbers actually looked a lot like his numbers in the first Super Bowl agains the Seahawks. Normally I want Super Bowl commercials to be funny, but that really was a good commercial. I was impressed.

All he does is catch touchdowns. And pretty much everything else, too. 3rd all time in receptions, 8th in receiving yards, 4th in receiving TDs, 5th in yds/reception, 54th in receiving yards/game, 8th in touchdowns and 36th in all purpose yards. Interesting tidbit: his 5 two point conversions is 3rd all time. He should have been a first ballot hall of famer.

Yeah, if that's all true then it's the right move. Like you, though, I have an extra interest in Smith doing well since he's a former player and there's a connection there. Sirmon being a former Titan makes that move pretty cool for me. He was a decent enough player, but often it seems the worse the player, the better the coach. He always seemed pretty intelligent and I have little doubt about his coaching ability, but I wonder how well he can recruit.

I hope they know what they're doing. He seemed to be the guy in charge of us coming out of nowhere to nearly get Wright and Jernigan. Kinda hate to see him go.

It could, especially if Ricketts doesn't advocate ballooning payroll anytime soon. Less than $10 mil a year is a pretty standard contract at this point, but it's still a significant portion of money.
