  1. I knew Lee would be in the deal from the sound of it, but was really disappointed to see Archer in it. I just hope the Hendry scouting eye is good here, because if not we really overpaid for a more expensive, slightly better Randy Wells.
  2. The biggest problem I have with this trade, as I said earlier, is that Garza pretty much has to reach that potential for this trade to make sense. We didn't have a need in the rotation and Garza hasn't been a top of the rotation pitcher to this point. He'll cost upward of $5-6 mil this year and more after that. His xFIP doesn't indicate a pitcher on the verge of being a top of the rotation pitcher, but he'll have to be to keep us from having overpaid. And if I'm trading primarily for potential, overpaying doesn't make sense.
  3. Keith Law reaction to the trade. He loves it for the Rays, but it's an insider article, so I can't read far enough to see what he thinks of it for the Cubs.
  4. The Aramis trade sent Bobby Hill, Matt Bruback and Jose Hernandez to Pitt.
  5. The problem with the package we gave up is that Garza now has to break out for this trade to make sense. If we get a Garza closer to his xFIPs the past few years, this was a horrid trade. But if Hendry saw a guy ready to break out, and he does, it makes a lot more sense. But he has to break out for it to make sense.
  6. Here are some of the numbers he used: Garza: 3.05 BB/9, 7.1 K/9, 1.09 HR/9, 38.9% GB%, 4.39 xFIP Harang: 2.57 BB/9, 7.4 K/9, 1.47 HR/9, 35.1% GB%, 4.21 xFIP He adjusted them for league, as well. Garza may have a high ceiling, but if you put any stock into xFIP, he's been pretty underwhelming in three full seasons in the majors. I know he might get a positive boost for switching leagues, but he'll likely get a negative bump for having a much worse defense behind him. Unless Hendry and his scouts are convinced he'll continue to outpitch his xFIP by a decent amount, there was no reason to give up Archer. Even if he does, I don't think you give up Archer.
  7. We still have Wellington Castillo ready to come to the majors. You guys realize that we platooned Koyie Hill with Geo Soto right? No way is Wellington Castillo gonna stay in Koyie's way. Then why are you stating that this means Hill is back for sure? I doubt Chirinos is regarded that much more highly than Castillo and if Hill is guaranteed a spot with Castillo still around, he probably was with Chirinos around as well.
  8. We still have Wellington Castillo ready to come to the majors.
  9. Fangraphs' Dave Cameron compares Garza to a younger Aaron Harang: He includes stats in the article as well.
  10. I was pretty much resigned to giving up Lee in the trade, even though I wasn't thrilled with it. But giving up Archer too just makes no sense. I'm going to have to trust Hendry and his scouts on this one - and hope one or both of the prospects we got back are good - because otherwise, we traded one of our best two pitching prospects, a high upside SS and filler for an older, more expensive version of Randy Wells. Garza xFIPs in full seasons: 4.48/4.21/4.51 Career: 4.45 Arbitration will probably get him $5-6 mil this year. I can't express how much I hope he pitches more to his career 3.91 ERA than his career 4.51 xFIP.
  11. ERA/WHIP Os - 3.03/1.190 Sox - 3.83/1.242 Yanks - 4.48/1.402 Jays - 2.14/1.189 It's going to be tough for his numbers to be a whole lot better against NL Central competition. Especially since the defense behind him will be worse.
  12. I wish Bud would make a decision on Fisher. the decision should be don't fire your coach unless you can bring in someone better. in the case of the titans, that's very unlikely. This is pretty much my stance. I just want to know what Bud's stance is.
  13. Jim Wyatt: I wish Bud would make a decision on Fisher.
  14. La Canfora:
  15. Didn't Bama fire him? no, he left even though he said he was staying there. Ah, the reverse Saban.
  16. I've never seen Steven Ross, but if he looks like a younger version of Ralph Bellamy or Don Ameche, that'd be awesome.
  17. The question isn't as much who needs a QB as it is who wants Vince. With as many questions as there are surrounding him and his age, most teams who need a QB will likely look to the draft or Philly first. Whether we can trade Vince or not depends largely on how much interest the Titans can generate (real or fabricated). If a team who likes him knows/thinks there's competition for him, they might be willing to deal. If it becomes pretty well known that VY isn't in great demand, then teams will wait for us to cut him.
  18. Didn't Bama fire him?
  19. Schefter: This is interesting, because as publicized as this deal is and as big as it is, no other coaching candidate is going to accept an interview since they know they'll have no chance. Would they?
  20. Yeah, the Fox rumors surprised me as well, but they may be familiar with each other and Holmgren may like the way Fox does things, maybe.
  21. I'm really surprised we haven't heard any Mariucci to Cleveland rumors. It'd be a better move than most of what I've heard, I think.
  22. PFT:
  23. I have no idea, but I figured I'd bump this to the new page because it's interesting.
  24. Rex Ryan He talks a lot, but does he actually do those types of things on the field? I know the other two have no problem going against the status quo with stuff like going for it on 4th down. He had that crazy fake punt deep in his own territory on 4th and a mile earlier this year didn't he?
