If the new coach isn't a "Michigan man" and comes in and wins 10 games next year, I'll give you that's probably true. But it's also extremely unlikely to nearly impossible. By hiring a "Michigan man," Brandon will buy the new coach some time to struggle early (which will happen) while he readjusts the system to a pro-style offense and either a 4-3 or 3-4 base defense. If the boosters really want a "Michigan man" and Brandon doesn't deliver one, the leash will be much, much shorter. I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet that if RichRod had strong Michigan roots and was considered a "Michigan man," he would still be employed at Michigan now. By abiding the wishes of the boosters (if that is their wish), Brandon buys himself and his new coach time to rebuild the program. If he targets the best choice regardless of his Michigan roots, that guy better win big soon.
