  1. That's what I was asking. Either he's hurt or McCarthey made a really dumb decision.
  2. Why do you draft an extremely raw but extremely talented player who everybody knows won't excel as a WR in his first couple of years and then just send him out on standard WR routes? Shouldn't there be a specific, creative plan to maximize a guy like Cordarrelle Patterson when it's clear he can't produce as a traditional WR?
  3. Colts have done the same thing and it's quite frustrating for a fan of a team that hasn't had a good QB consistently since the early 2000s.
  4. Yeah, I don't fault Ponder at this point, he's just not well-equipped for this AP-less offense.
  5. They've got to have a playmaker at QB and Ponder and Cassel just aren't that.
  6. I want to trade CJ Spiller - who I have in two different non-PPR leagues. What is fair value for him at this point? He's been fairly productive overall, but isn't getting a ton of touches either so he's fairly TD dependent. Would a questionable #1 WR like Cruz be too much? Or would fair value be more like an upside WR2/flex type like Brandin Cooks?
  7. I'd say so.
  8. Hey, the Titans could look like a respectable NFL team this week. I don't think the Browns will be able to exploit our iffy pass defense like the Colts were able to do, but I'm not sure we'll come close to slowing down the Shanahan running game - especially adding Ben Tate to the two promising looking young backs in West and Crowell. However, the Cleveland run defense isn't impressive and the Titans are finally realizing what most people do - that Shonn Greene isn't very good. Bishop Sankey is getting more carries each game and I think it'll be soon that he starts getting a majority of the carries consistently. If nothing else, that should limit the number of passes Locker needs to throw, which also increases our chances of winning. I'm liking more and more what I'm seeing scheme-wise and style-wise from Whisenhunt and his coaching staff, though, so once we move on from the Locker-Greene era I'm hoping we'll start some upward movement. I think the Titans win, but it's likely to be a low-scoring and kinda ugly game.
  9. Unless your replacing him with Harbaugh, Saban, Carroll, or a guy of that stature it would be pointless. Plus with him being the AD's first hire he won't be that quick to admit mistake. Patterson has too much of an ego for that. Now Strong could very easily drop his OC, that I could see happening. There needs to be one of two things occurring if you fire a coach before year 4 in college football. 1) He needs to show definitively that there's no way he can make the program better. And I don't mean stuff like "he got embarrassed in a couple games," it's got to be much more definitive than that. Turner Gill in Kansas and Ty Willingham at Notre Dame were two good examples of that. Derek Dooley could also be an example of that, though I would have gone ahead and kept him for one more year. 2) As you said, you need to have a can't miss elite coach lined up. You need to have some definitive knowledge that you can get a Saban, Carroll, Harbaugh, etc before making the move. Coaching changes can be devastating to a program even if they're justified and handled well. It's not a decision you make lightly and should be avoided if at all possible.
  10. Tennessee is the perfect example of why you should take coaching changes very, very seriously. A great deal of Tennessee fans were in favor of firing Phil Fulmer in those last few years of his regime simply because they were tired of him and wanted a change. Fan pressure - and a couple of rough seasons, not entirely Fulmer's fault - pushed the administration to make a change and we've done nothing but plummet since. It's looking like we're on the way up again, but where that ceiling is under Butch is a question that can't be answered yet. Can he make us that 90s Tennessee team we were under Fulmer again, or will he plateau at 8-9 wins like I suspect will be the case?
  11. The same question was asked by a lot of Tennessee fans that year as well. That was the year we defeated NC State in the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game to open the year and had all that offensive talent - Bray, Hunter, Patterson, really good o-line, Marlin Lane/Raijon Neal, etc. That offensive talent, along with a very good performance by the defense (led by new DC Sal Sunseri, fresh from Bama) in the NC State game, made people think we were on the way back up. That belief, along with Gameday being in Knoxville for the game, is the reason a lot of Vol fans came up with for Tennessee being ranked that early. It was not uncommon to find Tennessee fans - myself included - who thought it was premature, as it turned out to be.
  12. 28 points from Matt Asiata and what did I do with him? Left him on my bench. The guy I almost benched him for? Crabtree - 4.3 points. And Eddie Royal, the guy who has totaled 23 points in 3 weeks this season? 22 points in my opponent's lineup. There goes an undefeated start.
  13. Tennessee should beat Florida this week. It was a game I marked before the season as a possible upset, but now I believe we should win. If we don't win this year, I'm not sure we ever will. Florida's D-Line will give us problems I'm sure, but Worley is starting to come into his own and I think he'll be able to handle the pressure at least decently. Von Pearson being healthy enough to play would help matters immensely, even if he's only active as a decoy. If the UF offense tops 200-250 total yards, I'll be pretty upset. That offense is pathetic. Chances are very high that the team that hits 20 points wins this game.
  14. Yeah, I'm not going to guess on the Ravens backfield anymore. The guy I thought would be last on the pecking order soon had the biggest day yesterday (Forsett). I hate 3-headed monsters at RB.
  15. Chris Mortensen just said everything he's hearing is that league sources and team sources both think it's a pretty big longshot that Peterson would play again this year. I'd say that's enough of an endorsement to drop him.
  16. Very encouraging game by Tennessee today. We were right there with Georgia the entire time, though we couldn't begin to stop Gurley (208 yards on 28 carries). Justin Worley is becoming a really good QB. I don't know if he has an NFL future, but he made some really good throws today and looked better than he ever has. Jalen Hurd is also a future top RB, kid's really, really good. This team is a lot better than I thought it'd be - I'll go as far to say we should be the favorites against Florida next week.
  17. I'm planning on dropping him in both the leagues I have him soon. I just don't see how he plays this year. The trial isn't until after the year, and the Vikings rushing him back before the trial doesn't seem at all likely. If he pleas, the NFL plans to hit him with a severe suspension. That means he would have to reach a plea deal soon to have any chance of seeing the field this year, and the reports are that there are no talks of a plea deal. The chances of the charges being dropped in this case don't seem very likely because it is based on physical evidence more than eyewitness testimony, and both sides seem to be stipulating to most of the facts. It may have been decided and I missed it, but rumor was Peterson's camp was trying to move the trial up sooner. No idea when it would be, but that could - potentially - have him come back very late in the year.
  18. He was dropped in one of my leagues and I snagged him, figuring he's worth stashing. It's definitely sounding like it's all but a foregone conclusion he'll be out most or all of the season, though.
  19. I wasn't asking for much Kirk Cousins. Really, I just wanted a solid 15-20 point game. Heck, I'd have taken 10-12 if nothing else. But really? 3 picks and, at this point, 5.8 points? I don't think I've ever before wished I had Eli, but now I do. EDIT: 4 picks? This is just silly.
  20. Yeah, there should be no retired numbers, but I will take half as a start. To me, a good compromise is to show the jersey with the name and number of the player over the stadium or something, but keep it in circulation for people to wear it. That way it honors the former players, keeps the names of the franchise greats in people's minds, but let's the current guys wear whatever they want. No reason why the Bulls couldn't have 2 all-time great #23 players, for instance, but also no reason why both shouldn't be commemorated in some way very publicly.
  21. Looking like Locker will either not start for the Titans or will be severely hampered due to a wrist injury. Charlie Whitehurst would start if Locker doesn't. Honestly, I'm not sure if there's a huge difference between the two. Unless he's just not picked up the playbook yet, Mettenberger needs to be starting soon.
  22. Pierce is worth a flier if you're not dropping anybody of real value. I don't think Taliaferro is a fluke from the standpoint of producing when given a chance. I simply don't know that Harbaugh would play Taliaferro now over a healthy Pierce.
  23. I'd go Sankey - it'd take an injury for Blue to see the field consistently, while it'll just take Sankey developing to the coaching staff's desire for him to start. Shonn Greene isn't good. Disclaimer: I'm a Titan fan and like Sankey a lot, but I don't think I'm being biased when I say Sankey has a much better chance of being a feature back this season than Blue.
  24. Haha, I'd heard mentions of Blue prior to Arian's injury but that was it. Knew nothing about him though. I'm starting to think dropping Blue is the best option, since even though Arian is day to day, I'd guess he's likely to play. I'm trying to separate my likely Titans bias from my evaluation of Wright, though. I see him as a useful flex player, but I seem to usually have a higher opinion of him than most.
  25. This sucks. Two of my favorite Titans have not only died, but have died in weird/controversial circumstances.
