  1. There's no doubt there would be huge improvement offensively with the likes of Lugo, Bradley, and Wilkerson. The difficulty arises when it becomes 3 separate trades to accomplish that. But... Lugo Walker Lee Ramirez Bradley Wilkerson Murton Barrett Looks pretty darn good. Lugo is a sign. upgrade over last year, Murton for a full year would be as well in LF, Wilkerson would be a huge upgrade, and Bradley as well. I do question how the Cubs could pull that off, though.
  2. Is Zuleta on that Panamanian team? I miss that long swing.
  3. He must have seen him pitch 90's heat in one of his 6 innings pitched in 2005. Or maybe he saw the gun in 2004 when he threw all of 17.2 innings in 2004. I did see him pitch 3 of those innings in '05, he did hit 94 on the gun, and showed a plus curve and change.
  4. I'm crticial of Hendry, b/c this team hasn't made the nec. progression req'd to sustain consistent winning or develop a long-term goal. The farm system has been depleted, we've seen Hendry at his best by trading pieces of his farm system and this farm system has taken a nose dive since the Andy was GM. It's one thing to not win and show progression as the Cubs did from 98'-03' with the rebuilding of the farm system, it's another to switch it around after a sliver of success. '03 was ahead of the curve, it should've been treated as such. They basically went from a young team on the rise to a veteran team trying to win it all too soon. Baseball is progressionary, they went too quick in '03.
  5. I'd give up Patterson for Pierre in a heartbeat. Patterson is the most overhyped prospect since Choi and will not amount to anything. If Patterson is "the most hyped prospect since Choi" and is scheduled to make about 2mil, why would Florida want him? It doesn't save them the amount of money it would if they got Nix? (FWIW, Patterson was a prospect well before Choi)
  6. As it helps w/the bunts, it hurts as he tries to poke the ball thru the IF.
  7. Worst case scenario out of that is giving up Williams and Nolasco for Pierre, that's a scary thought. I'm not as opposed to getting Pierre as CP, but that's way too much and hope that isn't an option. I don't like giving up Nolasco period, but wouldn't be too upset depending on who was included not named Williams of the 3.
  8. Why don't you like Cedeno and Hill? And is there any particular reason you rate Pawelek so low? It's not I don't like them, I have questions about their ceilings. I've watched Hill's FB go from a plus pitch out of the pen at Lansing to an avg. FB. My ceiling for Cedeno is that of avg. middle infielder. If I went more of the statistical route, I would've rated Hill and Cedeno higher. As far as Pawelek, he has the stuff to be higher, but I couldn't discount what the 6 ahead of him were able to accomplish or what their ceilings were. Murton is where he is at b/c he showed the power finally, which is what his game needed to become a top prospect.
  9. I don't want to run the risk of having to be stuck with Marquis, if STL wants to get rid of Marquis, they'll find a suitor. Of course, not signing Burnett increases the value of Marquis until they sign someone else.
  10. They do need a 3B, Boone was terrible for them. They also need a RF'er and a 1B (sorry Blake and Big Ben).
  11. Burnett has had a great relationship with Brad Arnsberg, he's probably one of the main reasons he had initial interest in Toronto.
  12. To answer your question, both. Baker has found an inability to look at OBP at the top. The Cubs have not a high enough OBP at the top since Lofton when he was performing well, Grudielanek's OBP was around .360 if I'm not mistaken, which wasn't bad. Ideally, I don't consider Walker an ideal #2, he's more a 7th or 8th hitter in a perfect lineup or a team with a high enough payroll to get one (Cubs). His OBP hasn't been high enough to merit hitting in front of Lee, Ramirez, but he's the best avail. and should hit up there given what they've had. I'd love to see a couple .380+ OBPs at the top. Michaels, Castillo could've brought that. :) Well, Michaels still can.
  13. If Kearns is the starting RF'er, this OF group will look about as below avg. as last years, assuming somone like Pierre is in CF and not the next Mays.
  14. I can't stand it when people say that Drew dogged it, he's just a smooth player like Patterson, they have the ability to make it appear they are giving minimal effort b/c of their natural abilities in the field. Same thing with Sandberg. But for an agent like Boras to put words like Mickey Mantle out there for someone who had not played in the majors, how can you fault the player? How many players since Mantle have duplicated his numbers? Can't believe some would allow themselves to be disappointed by an idiotic claim from Boras, he's good for a dumb statements per year. That's not Drew's fault for your disappointment, that's your fault for unrealistic expectations. I'd take a chance with Drew, be a heck of gamble, but he is productive.
  15. Heh, that was done well before the JVB trade. Basically, slide everyone up and insert Brownlie into the 30th spot.
  16. There's the quick decision and the 5 years needed by STL to get him as I predicted earlier. (if valid)
  17. That would be the 1st clue that he's a fake. :D
  18. 1)Pie 2)Murton 3)Harvey 4)Marshall 5)E-Patt 6)Pinto 7)Pawelek 8)Dopirak 9)Marmol 10)Gallagher 11)Cedeno 12)R. Hill 13)Nolasco 14)A. Guzman 15)Van Buren 16)Sing 17)Aardsma 1S. Moore 19)Fuld 20)G. Johnson 21)Soto 22)Veal 23)Fontenot 24)Ryu 25)Petrick 26)Fox 27)Novoa 28)Coats 29)Craig 30)Greenberg
  19. Willingham hitting well? I'll be damned. I don't think Florida thinks he can catch, but he'll have a great shot at 1B.
  20. 1. I'll be VERY surprised if the Cards add another year. This is the first time they have offered a four year contract to a pitcher. Apparently it was a stretch for them to do so. So to add a 5th is asking too much. 2. Why is it too late? The Dodgers entered the Furcal race at the last second and landed him. He's not signed yet, so I wouldn't say it's too late. I also suspect that Hendry has been in touch with Burnett's agent a few times this offseason already. Also, with all the mediocre pitchers (aka Clement) getting 9 mil, 10 mil on Burnett could end up being a very good contract. Rumors have him making his decision tomorrow, if the timeframe of the Cubs entering the sweepstakes was less than 24 hours ago, I can't see them having a serious say in the matter.
  21. Too little, too late. STL either includes a 5th year or he ends up with the Blue Jays is my guess.
  22. Rowand was just a piece to get rid of Thome and get something in return. I don't think it was Rowand over Michaels, it was Rowand to get rid of Abreu, which is what we're seeing now.
  23. havent the phillies already said that michaels is not available? i read it on here not too long ago. That was before they traded for Rowand. Right now, they're likely trying to trade Abreu and if they can't, Michaels will be traded.
  24. Since I'm bored and brainstorming: Mets: Soriano Mench Cubs: Floyd Matsui (cash) Rangers: Walker Diaz Heilman Williams/Rusch
  25. Maddux has a NTC, so the 10-5 rule doesn't need to apply.
