  1. Stretch the field, still. Orton has been on the money and Carolina is playing up despite that.
  2. I'll be disappointed if they run on 2nd down if it's second and long. Time to use the playaction.
  3. Bears still need to stretch the field more, they haven't done enough offensively, which hasn't been Orton's fault. Defensively, keep putting pressure on Delhomme, keeping extra blockers in and only having one WR as well as no running game helps.
  4. http://www.j-mike.com/jasonhome.html I did not create the site. :) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=6696&type=batting&year=2005
  5. Michaels: Highest OBP Best defensively Lowest salary Likely 2nd easiest to acquire as far as players given up.
  6. Drum-N-Bass, I'm still hanging on.
  7. Hard to project there, I would rather have Castillo over Walker though. Much of Walker's offense last year was negated by his defense. While defense is the least of the big 3 that need improving, Castillo and someone like Furcal or hopefully Cedeno would improve the defense up the middle.
  8. My apologies to the poultry fans hoping for a UK upset over UGA.
  9. I think the Cover 2 will limit Smith deep, of course, remembering what Cincy did to it is still fresh in my mind. This will be their 1st real test since Cincy.
  10. Eyre vs. LH'ers over the last 3 years. Very productive, DIPS won't recognize the +22 IP/H, but if you strike out almost as baserunners allowed, you're doing well. 81.2IP 59H 5HR 26BB 73K I view him as a LOOGY who can set-up, if the set-up guy needs a day off. I'd keep Ohman as the second LOOGY, his age, salary, and talent should be held onto as LOOGY #2. Baker is a micromanager, make this pen as cookie-cutter as possible with 2 LOOGYs, closer, set-up, 7th inning guy, and long-relief/set-up. Not giving him those options will lead to the mismanagement we've seen from him when he manages the pen.
  11. Baker's usage will likely determine the value of this signing. The bar has been set very high to get value out of this signing with using him too often & too early. But, if he's used a LOOGY, he'll probably be the 3rd best reliever if they sign a set-up guy. Expensive in years and salary, but I like the move.
  12. Eyre is someone I like, I think he'll be more productive than Remlinger since Baker will use him as a LOOGY and he is younger than Remlinger. It's an expensive proposition for a LOOGY, but he should produce at an above avg. rate. They still need a Howry type set-up guy to complete the pne, if they do sign Eyre.
  13. Bradley and Pierre have a combined 15 votes, Michaels has 5? Disappointing :)
  14. It was Giambi testimony and it started losing steam before all of that. There have been questions of steroids and Sosa since '98. If Sosa didn't decline in '04, then he'd be a Met or still with the Cubs. But, his decline, age, and salary factored into it rather than suspected steroid use. If they suspected steroid use or lack thereof factored into his decline, that a separate issue, but it is documented that it was losing interest before Balco fully hit.
  15. The Cubs did well at making him look bad, that's what happens you publically have evidence to make him look bad, like airing leaving the parking lot early to catch Sosa in an obvious lie. You want to get a point across, tell him that Hollandsworth/Dubois will likely be the starting RF'er next year and we're looking for a LF'er. You think he'd want to come back knowing he's the most expensive 4th OF'er in history? Why suggest to Cubs fans that Sosa is the devil, what are they trying to accomplish? You honestly think that the actions of fans would dictate Sosa's decision? I don't, I think it was a childish ploy for a response from the actions of a child (Sosa).
  16. Once the steroid rumors came out.... The Cubs were screwed.. Reap what you sow I guess. Steroid rumors starting after '04? The rumors started well before that.
  17. Go over it 185 times or 284 times if it makes you happy then, cause I don't buy it. Sosa held all the cards, he knew he would be miserable here regardless how little the Cubs wanted him back. Showing tapes of Sosa leaving does nothing but smear him. They are ways to do it properly and improperly and they choose to do it incorrectly, IMO.
  18. What big trade was that?? The Cubs had their hands tied.... I vaguely recall most hoping that the Cubs would be able to save some money dealing Sosa, so the Cubs could get Beltran or Drew. Also, there was hope that Floyd would be dealt for Sosa. Sosa just had no market appeal tho. Part of the blame falls on the Cubs for Sosa's drop in market value and how they treated the situation, whether making it public how he left early and they're obvious intentions of trading him regardless of the return. Hard to build up demand when you're forcing someone out the door and you made it public. People want to blame Sosa for low demand last off-season and he's partially at fault for leaving early, but the Cubs are at fault for killing whatever value he had. They look for good characters last off-season get rid of Sosa, Farnsy, Mercker, etc largely based on their attitudes and they end up getting in media war with one of the bad apples... The irony.
  19. Reyes won't be a downgrade over Marquis. Playing in the AL East would be a downgrade for Marquis, it takes away his best asset. His bat.
  20. I hate cold weather.
  21. Is that b/c Orton is having a good year or Vick is having a down year? Orton has done nothing to lock him in as the #1 when Grossman comes back. There would be a case if the passing game was clicking, but it hasn't done nothing. While the Bears do need a better #2 WR and TE, part of the problem has been Orton and should be corrected w/Grossman. http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFC/PRAT/2005/regular
  22. Most prospects don't pan out, it's the nature of the beast in any farm system while, Atlanta is always the exception to the norm and should be treated as how you'd want your farm system to produce. It doesn't mean you should ignore the requirements needed to build a productive system. But, providing past Cubs prospects that didn't pan out proves nothing as far as applying Cedeno to it.
  23. Orton and Grossman will make for a pretty good QB battle next summer. I wouldn't mind taking on another experiment late in the draft, but QB isn't going to be addressed this coming offseason. This team is going to win on the strength of defense and the running game. RB is set, both with quality and depth. WR is still filled with holes, but I don't see this team ever being a strong 3 WR offense. I wouldn't be opposed to a WR early, but it would not be a priority in the 1st for me. TE is hit or miss. I can't think of too many great 1st round TE in the league. I don't see a Shockey out there right now. Personally I'd rather wait for a TE in the 2nd or 3rd. FWIW, Orton has a lower QB rating than McNown did during his 1st year. Once Grossman comes back, I'd start Rex and go from there. The Bears will be a predom, 2 WR set, but they don't have two WRs right now. Bradley has to be considered a "?" b/c of his serious injury to his greatest asset, Gage is a #4 WR, Berrian has the ceiling of a #2 WR. Every position is hit or miss to an extent, I don't think TE is any exception. Plus, the few times I've watched UCLA, Lewis has separated himself in a similar manner as Heath Miller did last year.
  24. If Lee from Pitt ends up in the 2nd, he'll make a good WR along side Moose, depending on Bradley and his situation.
  25. I think the Bears have decent depth on the line, it is getting older though like you mentioned. But, T depth of Tait, Miller, and St. Clair as well as Brown, Metcalf, and Garza is decent. I think they need more playmakers as well as a QB who can get it to them, sorry Orton. A WR in the 2nd and a TE in the 1st would improve this offense greatly. I'd like a S in the 3rd, I love Watkins out of FSU.
