  1. If Rivera does get a HC job, whether it be in Det., STL, Hou, etc., I would hope that Singletary would be 1st one looked at for DC.
  2. I'm not criticizing him for not getting Castillo. I want to stick with Walker. But, you're acting under the assumption that it is conclusive Walker will be traded and it isn't fair at this stage to do so. It's one thing to be upset about the Cubs trading Walker, it's another to use a completely separate situation in the analysis of it. I'd be upset regardless if Castillo was still on the block and Walker was traded, unless it was a direct trade, obviously. I fail to see how Castillo and the trade to the Twins impacts it. It doesn't make me want to hold onto Walker any more or less than before.
  3. Maybe, but they need an influx of offensive thinking to turn around that disaster. I don't think Millen will use up his last chance on such a coach as Rivera. And if somebody does take Ron, I'm not all that worried. Lovie is the mastermind of this defense. Rivera's influence is from Philly and Johnson, which is a blitz all the time defense, while the Bears don't blitz. I see Lovie finding a very good replacement if Ron leaves. He's coaching in SF right now. I don't think they'll go specifically on a offensive guru again (Mooch), they'll look for an up and coming coach and I think they have the potential to go after Rivera.
  4. I'm optimistic it won't happen, I didn't say I'd be blindsided if Perez starts over Cedeno at SS. :)
  5. Proctor is a soon to be 29yo very poor man's version of Farnsworth as far as stuff. Proctor has a straight mid 90s FB and a below avg. slider. Henn (24 yo) projects as a 4-5 starter as a LH'er, low 90s FB, decent slider, and needs to improve his change. Doesn't have the deception that most LH'ers have.
  6. Thankfully, I don't think Hendry has altered his approach based on the Sox winning it all. I think Hendry has flaws in his approach as GM and we seen them vividly last year, but those flaws were there before the Sox WS. Those flaws are what make me question Hendry's tenure and more importantly his future tenure with the team. He strikes me as the type that puts an extreme amount of pressure on himself regardless of the situation, probably how he made it from coaching at Creighton to GM of a historic franchise in a relative short amount of time.
  7. Don't lose sleep over it, you did nothing wrong.
  8. For me, the main reason Furcal is must have is Baker' illogical loyalty to Nefi, I believe, many of us would be content with Walker - despite his defensive shortcomings - and Cedeno. You can't "dumb" a team down b/c of a manager, I think they've done it to an extent with the bullpen this off-season as far as taking away the need for Baker to become creative with his pen to try and make it productive. This isn't my opinion but, if you have to overspend on Furcal to prevent the manager from playing the wrong guy, there are huge issues beyond those players involved. Personally, I'll give Baker the benefit of the doubt as far as starting Cedeno over Perez. If it doesn't work out that way simply b/c of Neifi's expereince, I'll be furious.
  9. You get someone like Bradley, Michaels, or even Pierre for CF and get a quality RF'er Dunn, Abreu, or to a lesser extent Huff and Furcal doesn't become a must have. Obviously, that's a nearly impossible task at this stage as far as improving the OF to that extent, but it should be the goal, even at the expense of Furcal. To me, it shouldn't depend on Furcal as far as how much to improve the OF as Furcal doesn't improve the OF.
  10. I disagree with that, but it would have to take some extremely productive measures. Getting an above avg. CF'er and an elite OF'er would eliminate the trouble of not landing Castillo or overspending on Furcal.
  11. Not related to this game but, anyone thinking that Detroit might be looking at Rivera this off-season as a possible HC?
  12. If they sign him that has to equate to the new gutless wonder (Marquis) being traded. I can't see them putting him in the pen and whining for a year or having Reyes rot at AAA, while Wainwright waits behind Reyes as he progresses.
  13. Nice move for Minnesota, I'm not too sold on any of their pitching prospects minus Crain (if you still consider him a prospect), that's not to diminish pitchers like Durbin, Sw2arzak, etc, but Castillo fills a huge hole for them. He'll do well with them.
  14. I wouldn't either, they're at opposite ends of their careers for the Cubs to benefit on this one. I'd love for them to pursue Abreu, but I would be opposed to giving up Z in return.
  15. I would not mind if they went after Castillo to replace Walker, it isn't the significant upgrade this team needs at this stage. It would improve the defense more than the offense. I would be opposed to it as with the other moves if the payroll increase prevents the Cubs from improving this team at it's greatest areas of need (OF). With this FA class, you can't sit back and let the other teams & top tier OF'ers determine the value of the class. Any elite OF'er will lneed to be done via trade since you can throw players like Jones, Burnitz, etc. into a bag and grab blindly and get similar production. The Cubs appear to be one of those willing to help set the bar for SS and middle relievers, I would hope it transfers to the OF, which I assumed would be of greater need than a LOOGY, set-up, and a SS.
  16. The advantage is that neither Anaheim, NYY, or Boston would likely even consider giving him more than 4 years at the most. It'll be a bidding war, but the starting price will have to be much lower and we'll see it happens. One of those 3 teams will have to budge 1st, Pierre to NYY would immed. drop the demands from Boras, Anaheim dropping out of it would almost kill it as well. Of course, a team like the Cubs could jump in if NYY grabs Pierre and the cycle repeats itself, especially if the Cubs don't get Furcal.
  17. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/01/sports/baseball/01yanks.html?adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1133535963-cKe+FV6kNZjsnkbJw+UZrQ To follow-up on that, the Times mentions that Florida has been asking for Cano, which they'd be stupid to trade Pierre for. Somehow if that rumor (Henn/Proctor) is true, Pierre would end up in the Bronx, South, South, Bronx.
  18. Whomever was involved with signing Van Buren out of the defunct Central League should be applauded for their efforts. He took that next step and gained some value in the Cubs system, it was a numbers game as far as why he was traded, hopefully the Cubs can get someone of value in return in a position of greater need than young, soon to be ready & RH'ed middle relievers.
  19. I still think the Yankees want Damon in the end, they needed to find some leverage and they found their route. Between overspending on Damon or trading those prospects for Pierre, they'd be better off getting Pierre.
  20. Abuck, my apologies to Hill. But, what made him potentially special while he was struggling at Lansing and other lower levels of the minors was 2 plus pitches. Since he has gone from the pen to a starter, his FB has lost velocity and it isn't as heavy as it was before. I also have Patterson much higher than anyone else. His 1st year in the minors, he showed more than I expected. I think his ceiling isn't as high as someone like Dopirak, but he has a much higher chance of becoming a regular in the bigs than anyone except Pie in the Cubs farm system.
  21. Don't the school that used to be the chinks, they're the dragons now Also the Zion-Benton ZeeBee's (fits under WTF) Although my schools mascot can get ripped on, we're the roadrunners. I personally like it. You don't see it too often and if you're gonna be a bird, best not be one that everyone is (cardinals, eagles, whatever) Go Zion. ZeeBees vs. Sequoits, quite a matchup.
  22. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15635792&BRD=1675&PAG=461&dept_id=18170&rfi=6 I try to be optimistic and articles like this always help. :sunny:
  23. It's a feature I know nothing about. :) Seriously, it is a feature avail. for premium members.
  24. I don't think so, if they don't sign Damon, I doubt they'd stick Stern in CF. They'd look elsewhere via FA or trade before handing it over to Stern, IMO.
  25. Side topic: So far the Marlins have traded their two most avail. players that they likely intended to trade, Beckett and Delgado. In the process, they cleared another huge contract w/Lowell. In the process of trading those valuable players, they failed to pick-up a ML ready CF prospect. Florida does not have a CF prospect ready for the majors, their best CF prospect Eric Reed, struggled at AAA despite the high avg. and will not be ready for the majors until the end of '06 most likely. With Boston, they have a CF prospect by the name of Adam Stern, I'm just wondering, if Florida didn't pursue it or he wasn't avail. from Boston. If Florida didn't pursue it, the question has to be why, if Pierre is next on the chopping block. Either they'd be luke-warm on trading Pierre or the teams interested in Pierre have a CF'er they'd want instead.
