  1. I'm more curious to see how it'll impact his usage pattern, if he's been out there for two days in a row will Lou use him a 3rd day in a row despite having two guys capable of closing it out?
  2. Why? You wouldn't be able to get the most out of that pitcher for the second half of those 100IP and run a greater risk of injuring if they end up throwing out of the pen in the 1st half of the year. Or if you have Marshall at Iowa to start the year, you're defeating the purpose of saving his arm. If it's Marquis as the #5, his greatest asset is that he has a rubber arm and will eat innings (assuming he's not shelled thru 4). As far as Marshall/Lieber, they would be wise to keep a closer eye as far as not leaving them out there well beyond early signs of fatigue. With Gallagher, they could be more liberal since he is sound mechanically, good size, and has a clean bill of health. I hope whoever wins the 5th spot will stick throughout the year.
  3. This will be the 1st ST game I've seen of the Cubs. Hopefully, it'll be Pie as well as some young arms.
  4. I don't know how someone with that weight, age, and history of arm problems is going to make it past 5IP very often.
  5. There isn't a better book out there.
  6. Agreed, the flaw has been the Cubs medical staff. Their inability to find the exact extent of the injury caused this. Of course, it appears the Cubs took the side of the medical staff and it was best for both side to part ways after that. You figure an organization with this much of a financial commitment towards players' salaries would have better insurance (elite med. staff) for their investments. Yet, they seem go thru them as much as they do managers.
  7. I had a brain freeze for a sec. Having two pitchers in the booth isn't ideal as far as a duo.
  8. I actually like Harrelson so I'm in the minority especially for Cubs fans. I think their styles and opinions about the game will be different enough to make it enjoyable. As much heat as Hawk takes for his goofy sayings, he does talk about more advanced areas of the game compared to someone like Brenly.
  9. I wonder why this would be considered an abnormal year? I could understand maybe if they had a farm system like in '02, but beyond Fukudome being considered a prospect, I don't see what they could be getting at.

  11. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=341 Damn, I was looking forward to seeing him next week. I'll still Vandy, but I was hoping to see the best hitter in the draft.
  12. You don't become that successful w/out having to make sound business decisions, he's a businessman 1st and everything else takes a back seat. He views the Cubs and its assets as investments, I don't blame him as it doesn't change my opinion on the Cubs or Wrigley, Wrigley doesn't lose it's appeal or anything like that. Yes, Wrigley Field does sound better than potential corporate names, but I don't fault Zell for doing what his best for him. This is what separates someone like Cuban from someone like Zell. There are alot more buyers like Zell than Cuban in such an exclusive market.
  13. That means more than likely every manager over the last 20 years is an enabler, I doubt there is a manager who did not have at least one player on his roster using steriods/HGH. Most clubhouses provide alcohol and plenty of athletes have made many bad decisions as far as driving while intoxicated.
  14. I'm not as familiar with Midway as some, I was there Sunday, but I wouldn't stay there. I don't know what it's like S, E, or W of Midway as I always come in from the N. off of I-55. But, if the entire area is similar as the stretch off of Cicero Ave. from Midway to I-55, then I definitely would not stay near there, but that's only opinion. How much you looking to spend per night on a room?
  15. How much you looking to spend?
  16. Metra is fine, they have trains going all the time. On weekdays, they run all-night and weekends, their last train leaves Union Station at 12:35 AM, which gets to Grayland (the closest stop to Wrigley at prob. 12:50 AM.) As far as Metra to Wrigley, many Cubs fans do that. Most take the bus from Grayland to Wrigley, some take cabs.
  17. http://www.sptimes.com/2008/02/25/Rays/Rays_ponder_Bonds_pur.shtml He'll probably still be very productive (especially in a DH role) and help put people in the stands/create a national buzz before the season, but that tornado surrounding him...
  18. For those wanting to see Vandy, they televise their games over the net. http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/vand-m-basebl-body.html Click on video telecast, register for free, and you get the game. Their game vs. Miami (OH) starts in 5 minutes or so. Alvarez is out w/a wrist injury.

  20. I think most here will be nicely surprised with Thomas as the year progresses.
  21. It's not worthless, but it's obviously not the best way to judge a hitter. To put the ball in play for a hit at a higher % is more skill than luck. Of course, saying someone is a .288 hitter should be followed up with and....
  22. It was fun to be in Memphis over the weekend, it's been quite awhile where I've been in a town with that buzz over college basketball.
  23. It probably can't be as entertaining as what Quade is saying, he's a complete nut-job (in a good way).
  24. I definitely would not put my kids at risk by sliding into 1B, regardless of any tenths of a second saved. More important things to teach and stress.
