  1. I wouldn't worry, SIU will play a week later at home vs. NIU.
  2. If you want your kids to get down to 1st quicker, teach them have to maintain good balance through their follow-through to get a good push-off out of the box. Most ids swing from their heels and have to gather themselves before running. They compound it by looking for the ball as soon as it leaves the bat, take 3 strides to 1B then look. Also, run a straight line, some weave like they've failed a DUI test.
  3. Sat. and Sunday, which means I'll miss the Fri. starters (Adams).
  4. Is that all LF'ers or all starting LF'ers? He had a .265 EqA last year and a .273 EqA the year before, that's avg. for all LF'ers and most likely below avg. for starting LF'ers. Last year, his EqA was 16th among all LF'ers w/400 PAs or more, with Alou, Bradley, and Diaz not qualifying b/c of lack of PAs. Like I said, he's not good enough to start in LF on most clubs (ironically Texas would be one of them, IMO) and defensively, he's a LF'er (doesn't have the range or arm to play other positions everyday).
  5. Murton is only valuable to the Cubs as a LF back-up/PH'er. Byrd has the ability to play CF full-time if Pie struggles, platoon, &/or become the RH'ed bat off the bench, he's more versitile to the Cubs' needs than Murton. Murton as a starter would produce below avg. numbers in LF and his defense isn't good enough to overcome his lack of power for a corner OF'er.
  6. This weekend. Beyond Adams and Kelly, you have Hills and Elmendorf as well as Roberts.
  7. I think it would be a solid move to go after Willits, he'd be a nice hitter at the top of the order. I assume if this is true that talks broke down for Byrd and have shifted to Willits.
  8. Do you have the PbP data to back up how often your hypothetical scenario happens or are you just pulling it out your ass and hoping we'll accept it as fact? Fwiw, Wrigley23 did not introduce the bolded part, DexterMorgan did.
  9. Now, he just relies on one of the quickest bats in the majors and tremendous raw power. He's never been a tablesetter, he's been a slugger with speed and been effective leading off regardless if he could run or when he couldn't run well (like last year).
  10. Since it appears it's going to be Soriano/Theriot as the daily double.... I would rather have Derosa/Fukudome than Soriano/Theriot. Assuming your statement implies that Soriano has to be out of that spot and in the middle.
  11. Huh? Soriano would have no protection batting 6th. Pitcher's won't even try to get him out, they'll just throw garbage pitches up there in hopes that he chases, while not actually worrying about walking him because of the weakness that follows him. You have to pitch to a guy that is up before the 2-3-4 spots. Pretty basic stuff. If it was that easy, they would do that if he was hitting 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 9th. He didn't have any protection leading off in Washington unless an '06 Zimmerman made pitchers change their approach. Pitchers use the same approach regardless of where he hits. AZ didn't pitch him any different and they got him out by getting ahead and putting him away with junk low and away.
  12. If that happens, it becomes an issue. Facts are ST has started and from media reports, it doesn't appear they are close to agreeing on a trade. Right now, that 25 man roster is most ideal for Soriano leading off again.
  13. Having Reyes on the roster compared to Theriot, Fukudome, and Derosa as poss. leadoff candidates is a separate issue. So is trying to factor a hitter that has leadoff most of his career to a career middle of the order hitter. Yes, I would prefer Soriano in the middle, but compared to who would replace Soriano at the top, I'd rather have Soriano.
  14. College coaching is where Skiles will excel, he would make an excellent hire.
  15. http://www.sportsscaninfo.com/index.htm
  16. I'm still trying to figure out how Weber locked up one of the best Soph's in the country from my backyard (Waukegan, IL). He had mentioned that U of I started contacting him when he was in 7th grade.
  17. The only time this will be important is if the Cubs make the playoffs. Although, I highly doubt facing Lilly the day before will make hitters more prepared against Hill. If Hill is throwing his FB and curve with good control & command, you could probably face Hill the day before and still struggle.
  18. But, people still have the right to disagree with a move or in this case a potential move regardless of how much they have spent in the game. As I say this, I would prefer a high OBP at the top instead of Soriano.
  19. Safe, signable (usually at or below slot), and more likely to reach the majors than someone who might have a higher ceiling but w/flaws or could be diff. to sign. With that said, that would not be my cup of tea, it has shown to be one of the reasons why scouting directors can get fired.
  20. It was Soriano's 4th highest EqA in his 8th full season. I doubt the Cubs are getting Roberts, too many hurdles between them and the O's. I assume Soriano will hit leadoff and Theriot 2nd with Fukudome 5th. I expect the Cubs to get Byrd and call it an off-season.
  21. He's interesting b/c he is so gifted athletically, loves playing FB, and his dad has been involved in baseball all his life as a player then scout. http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2008/jan/27/head/
  22. He's definitely hard to figure out, I have no idea where he'll be at the end of this year let alone '10.
  23. No doubt, which is why I think Lou seen him throw in the pen rather than facing live hitters.
  24. Chris Harris. Man, what an incomprehensible, completely unnecessary move by Angelo/Lovie. That's what happens when you acquire Archuleta and Ricky Manning, unfort. they let go of the wrong guy.
  25. While QB isn't as important upgrade as OL, WR, HB, or S, I think it is a position that will likely have to be upgraded in the future if it is still Grossman/Orton. Grossman is an inconsistent while over the course of the year has the ceiling of an avg. QB.
