  1. That's a lottery ticket. Not bad for a useful pen arm with another possible year of control.
  2. Return unknown so far, but nice pickup for the pen.
  3. It's deadline day! Post rumors and rumor discussion here, we'll have separate threads for any additional Cubs trades that are announced.
  4. Franklin's ceiling is a bit limited, but it's easy to envision him getting a second contract in the majors. I disagree, but I get it.
  5. A blocked AAA 4th OF and an intriguing low level bat. Bit more than I'd expect, but not bad. Neither is a Top 10 guy.
  6. It's understandable impatience. This team is good enough to make the playoffs as constructed, but they've had enough struggles since the Red Sox series post-ASB that their flaws are becoming apparent, plus the Brewers' surge has put a lot more pressure on the Cubs than most of us expected. Blame the modern trade deadline and playoff structure. Both have made it next to impossible for teams to pull off big moves more than 48 hours from the deadline.
  7. Let's ease off the gas on each other, folks. I'm happy to give everyone a bit of leeway when things are going rough in-game, but there's no need to snipe at each other when the team is up by 5.
  8. No one who's reportedly been on the Cubs' radar, so I can't complain. I'll be ready to complain if we see guys like Gore and Ryan moved elsewhere, though.
  9. It irritates me that the Brewers still have fight in them. They deserve credit, don't get me wrong, but it irks me after watching the Cubs offense go completely deadass the moment they go down more than 3 runs over the last few weeks.
  10. Perhaps, but he was also leaving a lot out over the plate where it could be crushed.
  11. That was also a really nice piece of hitting by Mo. He took an 88 mph change on the outer half and just took it up the middle.
  12. Turner should never get another AB against a RHP so long as he's on this team. He's an okay platoon partner for Busch, and I'm fine with keeping him on, but why CC seems hellbent on giving him at bats against RHPs is beyond me. Berti needs to be fired into the sun.
  13. Is it ironic that I made this thread in an effort to thwart off-topic discussions elsewhere, only for this thread to completely devolve into an off-topic mess within two pages?
  14. This isn't 2015, though. The current AAA grouping does not appear to have a position player on the same caliber as, say, Kris Bryant or Javier Baez, and the current mix of pitchers in the upper minors involves a promising flamethrower coming off major surgery (Wiggins) and a lot of guys with unclear ceilings. Put another way, we're likely not looking at a wave of future All Stars coming up to kick ass and take names over the next two years. The Cubs have a good group of guys on the farm, and it's possible one or more of them breaks out, but recent experience PCA and Shaw have taught us that we will need to exercise a ton of patience with their hitters while they figure things out. They are also looking at a roster crunch going into next season because some of those prospects will need to be on the major league roster. If anything, now is the time to push some of those chips to the center of the table.
  15. Yeah, that was a weird mixup. Houser would be a nice SP2 target behind a bigger SP1 acquisition. The Regression Monster is looming, but even then, he'd likely be a better option than Rea and could help spell some guys down the stretch.
  16. Since we did separate threads for the draft, I opened a deadline rumor discussion thread for Cubs rumors so there's a central place for everyone to keep up to date on the latest and discuss.
  17. Since there's been a fair amount of discussion across multiple threads and forums over the last few weeks, I think it's only fair we open up something for general discussions regarding rumors today (and another thread tomorrow) for any articles, social media hubbub, and general wishcasting in advance of tomorrow's trade deadline. There will be another thread tomorrow, and we will also have separate threads for any deals that happen. ESPN's latest has...well, not much about the Cubs.
  18. Caissie might be the better prospect, but Ballesteros is probably the prospect most likely to help the Cubs *now*. Caissie is currently a thumper in AAA, but he's needed a fair amount of time with each promotion to adjust to the league, and he's also shown concerning enough K numbers that he probably will need at least a few months in the majors before he can be a positive at the plate. It also doesn't help that he's not a plus defender. Ballesteros has his own issues, but he's more likely to be a positive contributor at the plate right now.
  19. This has actually been hovering around my #2/#3 biggest need for the Cubs. This team has a phenomenal 1-9 options for the everyday lineup (10 if you include McGuire or Amaya), but things completely fall off a cliff once you go past that. Berti, Brujan, and Turner have been varying levels of bad, and Turner needs to be kept as far away from the OF as possible. They need someone who can hit LHP off the bench in a pinch, and the lack of depth is really going to show if upgrades aren't made at the deadline.
  20. It does, but the fact that none of those guys have been traded and most (not all) trades have involved guys on the periphery tells me that potential sellers are making life miserable for buyers right now. I'd be more aggravated if we'd seen other teams making a bunch of moves, but that simply hasn't been the case.
